[Euro-04] Portugal - England expectations

If you watch the replay of the Sol goal you'll be able to see both sides of the arguement; Terry's arm only comes down on the goalie after his leap; just as the ball is inevitably passing under the bar. I think it would take a very strong minded player not to raise their arms when jumping. Campbell brought Terry down mind; had they brought the goalie down it might have been more understandable, but we're good at self destructive tactics...

The Linesman had a clear view and called it, the referee overuled him, simple as. Why in football they cant use technology to call shots (such as video playback) is beyond me.

With Rooney neutralised was it just me or did the team instantly seem to loose some cohesion? Almost like sub-conciously he was their 'rock'

:bounce: ATTENTION ALL YOU AGGRIEVED ENGLAND FANS :bounce:

I don't know if this has been stated anywhere previously (cos I couldn't be arsed reading the whole thread), but anyway here it is.

The swiss referees name was Urs Meier and apparentley he really really really LOVES FEEDBACK.... so here is.... his damn e-mail address!!!!!

 [email protected]

Now go forth and annoy the man for all the pain he has brought us (not sure about this- but wasn't he the same ref we had against Argentina when we had header disallowed- my memory quite fuzzy these days but then of course I was very very very drunk :rolling: )

lmao! spam his swiss ass!

[Edit] and wtf was up with david james?? can he not catch a ball without dropping it a milisecondlater??? hes a poor keeper IMO

if there was a possibility of getting his dumb-ass descision over-ruled then maybe we should, but whats the point otherwise?

most of em will be on the way home by now, so NOOO!!

anyone else think the fans abroad for the most part were well behaved this time round?

probably not. the keeper kind of just....fell down for no reason...watch it again and you'll see. their keeper is a tosser anyway, cocky git :hmph:

england's fans have been well behaved, i don't know why they've let us down.. the couple of incidents of violence have been ruled as non-football related. funnily enough, one man who's being sent to jail is a fireman from Faversham...know, do we all know who hails from Faversham? :P ;)

Haven't read all the posts, can't be arsed.
I'm not the most au fait person with football I'll admit, but that referee was sh*t. He made some appalling decisions, and it was a very good case for video referees becoming more standard usage. Plus, the Portugese cheated by falling over far too easily. I hope they get knocked out in the next round. That said, it wasn't as if England played amazingly but that won't stop me being really pissed off.

what? are you saying football players fall over too easily to draw fouls? this is ground-breaking! someone call the times!

i won't complain though, it's funny watching you brits absolutely meltdown b/c your inferior team lost. face it, god hates your football team.

We only lost because of a decision made by the referee that was wrong. Simple as that.

I hope this is a ****ing joke, although it isn't funny at all. You realise how violent english fans will become when drunk? I heard police had to fend off angry englishmen back in your own country, Jersey I reckon, because there's a lot of portugiese there. ****ing sad, seriously... ****ing sad!

England does a good job in football, but it's mad retards like those that make me loose respect for your country. Not fair, that I admit, but that's how I feel!

i agree Champ.
We were robbed, we had a team that could have won the championship but for that match and probably because a) we got a quick goal b) Rooney had to go off, and would have been out for the tournament anyway.
We didnt keep attacking at Portugal and thats why we lost, we were the worst team on the day, didnt get it together but we were the Better side.. if that makes sence.
And the ref.. well, we've all seen the photo of him with the guide dog.

You lose respect for the enitre country for the acts of a very small amount of people...What is 2000 in nearly 60 million?
I hope the rest of Denmark doesn't share your attitude.

It was a joke what he said and you know what, i didn't tihnk it was poor taste because there weren't many incidents. It has even been noted in the news that the England fans were celebrating with the portuguese fans int he streets after the game. There is a reputation out there elft over from years ago when funnily enough it wasn't jsut in Egnalnd that there was a lot of hooliganism.

As i've said before, the English generally do not start these fights but instead take them to the next level. People from other countries know that English people are up for a bit of a fight and they know they won't get bripped for it if they get some English fans all riled up.

Champ you probably had a bad experience, at least i hope you ahd because the way you are acting you sound like your family and friends were all killed by a crazed English football fan.

Violence exists throughout humanity, so deal with it.

lol Timmy, ur too much

It really makes me sick the way all english football fans are stereotyped as lunatic madmen, who are ready for a barny at the drop of 'a funny look'.
It's fair to say that we definitely used to have a serious problem, but after we got banned from european football for aeons and the police cracked down on violence in top flight football things have really changed (with the exception of Millwall and Wigan! ).
To this day we're the only nation to be warned before any tournament that there's to be no funny business or you're all banned. I mean really, throughout europe (england included)there is violence at lower league levels. It's just an unhappy fact that some people, regardless of race, like to beat the living hell out of each other, meaning that you will never stamp out violence in football.
So it pains me to see on the news, how police forces the world over are preparing for english fans with all new riot equipment and extra training in administering a beating! Especially when countries such as are Turkey getting away with murder(literally) and never even being threatened with such countermeasures as bans or extra police kickings.....
Simply put while we're no angels we definitely are not the devil incarnate that we're made out to be, shit happens, and then it escalates (especially where we're concerned- cos we don't know how to back down!
A good example of how it should be was the world cup in Japan, they didn't make a meal of our reputation, there was no posturing in the media against us, in fact they were bloody happy to see us! And guess what- no violence what so ever. On a side note though (and this one totally undermines my last argument! :dork: ) beer is extremely expensive over there so........ :hmph:

No, I lose respect for you as a football nation, not as a country. Seriously, there has been countless of episodes involving english fans, and you even agreed with me in another thread, that the English do get violent when they drink and "doesn't take shit from anybody"

I did not know that was a joke, seriously. I just though it was so ****ing ignorant and ruthless comment that I had to make a reply!

As i've said before, the English generally do not start these fights but instead take them to the next level. People from other countries know that English people are up for a bit of a fight and they know they won't get bripped for it if they get some English fans all riled up.

What's the deal with the Jersey episode? The portugiese started the riot I suppose? a handfull of english-portugiese versus 1500 mad England fans? Give me a ****ing break will ya?

Champ you probably had a bad experience, at least i hope you ahd because the way you are acting you sound like your family and friends were all killed by a crazed English football fan.

You could say I had a bad experience. One of my friends were mashed up by some drunk football fans, Danish club fans, so I have no "personal" vindiction needs against the English!

Violence exists throughout humanity, so deal with it.

That's what I'm doing, dealing with it. That's why I'm here replying to ignorant comments that urge people to start riots.

I now realise the comment was intended as a joke, but really. Some things is not to be joked with. Sorry for being a touchy mother****er.

Just want to show my respect for the english fans in Portugal. Everything was reported quiet down there.

what was up with that penalty spot, it looked like a mole was diggin it up or sumin o.O

you guys should be watching this sweden-holland game, it's still 0-0 in the second overtime, but it's been a good game.
