[Euro-04] Portugal - England expectations

Man this is sad I am getting so sick right now...................:(

Make sure its expensive, i dont wanna wear any cheap hats....Uh, did i say wear? I meant eat.

Anyway, whats done is done...I hope that portugal loses their next match :)

Now now, lets not call him blind. Thats just wrong.

He was a down right dumbass idiot who doesnt know his head from his ass. Ok?

Most of Europe just doesn't like our country so finding an unbiased ref is difficult :)

There was the italian though, he was great.

the referee is a wanker. plain and simple.

sprafa, you lot got off the hook. lil' timmy was right, god does hate the england football team ;(

the portuguese guy living next door is making a huge racket. no sense at all. the guy living on the other side is a hardcore england fan. :/ i'm guessing some heads are gonna get knocked in tonight :/

oh well

*loads up championship manager and fines all his portuguese players 2 weeks wages*

Referee: Urs Meier (Switzerland)

upset cos england beat switzerland so convincingly :P

anyway...is anyone's heart still beating normally? i think i may have to visit the hospital to get some shock therapy or something.

god damn i dunno what's worse, the france game or this :/

Yeh why did we get a swiss referee when we wooped up his team!

I can't belive that.

We were screwed over by our referee as well... and he should die... but shit like that happens. And instead of blaming it on the ref, you should blame it on the players for missing all those chances.
Besides, Portugal deserved to win the whole damn match if it was only for the penalties, they were such CLASS. They had balls, real f*cking balls, goalie without gloves, and let him take a decisive penalty, and then the guy who made that low velocity lob, pure class :D

I'll help with the grave. I've got a good digging arm.

Pitch was shit. Regardless of who was the better team, there was nothing wrong with that goal. Perfectly valid.

I don't blame any of the players for that loss, but agreed, the referee is a wanker.

I wonder if there will be a more epic match in the tournament now, aside from the Czech Republic vs Netherlands match.

I reckon the match was pretty half and half. In the first half England were winning easily but then Portugal got pretty good possession. Of course, we still got that goal which should have been allowed. On the penalties...well beckam missed but i reckon it was the soil and since he was first he didnt realise it was messed up.

lol you could call it soil, looked more like a sandpit!

England played poorly ever since Rooney went off injured. The fact that we played so poorly made Portugal look really good..when in fact they were playing average.

That

"Low velocity lob"

was because of a really shitty penalty spot. Which is also the reason why beckham missed completely then looked directly at the spot with evil eyes....

yeah, portugal had most of the posession, but everytime england broke they looked like nicking a goal. perfect example: campbell's 'goal' ;(

I still dont think Beckham should be taking England penalties. He is shit.

well england fans, at least we can take solice in the fact that we're now better than germany at last :P ;)

;(

\o/

Least we kept up the long tradition of losing in penalties.

No, but I don't think the whole loss should be blamed on him. Although it's likely that will happen anyway :/

I still think we should focus on the main issue here: the EU should flex some under-used political muscle and have the ref executed due to international atrocities.

LOL, I'm sorry, but that's just a lame excuse... he just screwed up. Period.
How messed up can the soil be? It's flat and it's grass. Just like the whole pitch.

The penalty spot was practically desert. Also might explain Eiu Cusaro's miss. (God, someone tell me how to spell his name!)

Lets get straight to the REAL reason we lost though.

England played I like using bad language

Heheh, like the rest of the pitch my arse!

Did you not see it where you were?!

It was a frigin sandpit ffs. Every single one of the players had to flatten it out after every shot! :(

holy crap.. and i thought the italians were a bunch of crybabies.. the better team won, deal.. jesus.

England played SHIT

Not really.. at least you went out fighting unlike another big country like Italy or Germany.

I know we were the friggin worse team. That doesnt excuse the fact that we got a goal dissalowed that was plainly legal!!

i think it's mainly due to the fact we almost always get the wrong end of refereeing decisions in major tournaments.

;(

/me cries....;(

Italy had a good reason to be annoyed, they were dumped even though they won their last game. Although i guess they had to do worse in their other games to get into that position....

But call us all the name you like, we should have won :)

They only started fighting in the last 15 or 30 minutes. Since the third minute England were just defending against wave after wave of Portuguese attacks. We hardly challenged their defence or their keeper.

If we had played better and got more chances on goal, and even a couple of more goals rather than just sitting back and defending way deep it wouldn't have gone to penalties. It was very reminiscent of the French game.

We certainly were expected to beat Portugal, and we certainly had the ability, just our tactics stunk. There was no leadership, and Beckham played terrible. Losing Roony in the 20 summit minute didn't help matters either.

I'll hand it to the boys though, they made a few mistakes early on, but they really showed spirit towards the end, and believed they could still win.

I think to be honest, people were relying on rooney too much. England could have done it without him, but because they wanted him for the win, when he was knocked out they lost confidence.

27th minute was "teh scouse guy's" ankle stamping boot losing moment of doom.

Yes, we played worse; even during the first half Scholes and Gerrard made a few poor passes and our interception was frankly pathetic; you can't block by crowding into a damn circle shape, at least not effectively.

Fact remains, however; even if we'd been drunk, drug crazed addicts who only scored because Portugal was wetting themselves with laughter, we (by all official means except, as it is, the most important one), won that match.
