every time i touch, or try to upgrade my comp, i static shock th ecomponent (mobo,ram...) nothings ever broken down

i ve dropped my hard drive

i slipped and almost dropped my fresh 250 dollar cpu (im 16, so thats alot)

i tried to look at something on my mobo, and a bent a capaciter, while it is on

so far nothing has happened...

Why would they be evil gods? it looks like they are looking after you...

I was trying to put a new dvd drive in a while ago..and it wouldnt go all the way in. So I kept pushing it really hard and ramming it in but it still wouldnt completely go in..i looked inside the case to see what was stopping it and there were 2 severely bent back capacitor-type-sticky-uppy-thing in the way. All that forceful pushing bent them back..lucky they didnt snap off. Mobo still works completely fine..

I dropped my coke in my computer once while working on it. It ruined almost everything. Needless to say, I was loling.

I can't say I've ever had bad luck with computers. But I've seen some very evil things that other people have done to computers. Some of them are hard to believe.

Seen a guy with an exploded roach under the board in his power supply. Apparently, the roach decided that the warmth of the power supply would make a good home. Little did he know, the capaciters in a power supply can injure a human, and obviously, make a roach explode.

I've seen a kid with a pop-tart - yes, the pastry-like thing - in his CD drive. Why? Because the CDs come out warm if you leave them in there for a while. Needless to say, that drive didn't work any more.

I've seen people spray their computer down with lysol, because it had a virus. Didn't destroy anything, but still, that's just rediculously stupid.

I've seen people complain that their computer isn't working because when they push the button on the screen it doesn't show a picture. Apparently, the box that sits next to the screen is just there for decoration and has nothing to do with the computer.

I've seen A keyboard with crystalized sugar on the board from having so many drinks spilled on it. If you want a tough keyboard, get a Logitech.

I've seen a guy complain that his computer screen doesn't work. Meanwhile, his monitor was plugged into the serial port.

I've seen a scorched motherboard. The result of a genius that got the idea that all these fans in his computer (including the CPU fan) were making too much noise and weren't necessary anyway because the case never got hot.

There are probably a whole bunch of other things that I can't remember right now. Grr...just thinking about all the idiocy makes me mad.

I have never had any hardware problems with my computer but the ****ing software hates me for some reason.

RDRAM that litterally suffered an instantaneous death without any form of overclocking. I had 384mb before that but now i'm only at 256mb. :(

meh, its the worse thats happened to me so far.

Took off the cooler on a Slot A CPU (Athlon 600Mhz) and the clips broke! sigh
Um otherwise nothing exciting. :|

My friend's PC caught on fire once. I think it had something to do with a case fan, electrical tape and faulty wiring. It was during a LAN at my house too. :dozey:

I have to say, I've never ruined anything myself, either.

Messed with stuff inside while my system has been on, didn't hurt it (was trying to get some frontal USB ports working to no avail). Diagnosed and taken apart fans while they were running, still worked afterwards. Never had RAM go bad. Never hurt my GPU even though I've overclocked it pretty hard, same with my CPU. Had countless "OH CRAP" moments when I thought I broke everything, but always fixed it.

Knock on wood, hope it stays this way :)

The only problems I've ever had have been caused by parts gradually kicking the bucket over time (not through human error)... specifically, a stick of PC133 SDRAM, a GeForce 2 Ultra, and a 40GB hard drive. They all lasted two or three years before going bad. Everything else has worked flawlessly.

I built my friends comp from scratch and he paid for it...2000 bucks. yea...i was wearing socks....and i built the entire thing on a nice soft rug.......well........let your imagination take you from there.......needless to say, we got a full refund and then i built it on a wood table....

....with no socks on :|

I do almost all of my computer work on a carpet (instead of dragging it into the next room) and occasionally in socks. So far, no static electricity incidents. :E

That's a big advantage for a nerd to live in Florida. You can do things like that without harming a single component unless it is one of the few months that actually produce cold weather around here.

lol. I live in Arizona and I electrocute myself on a regular basis. Some of the shocks I get really hurt.

Never had anything bad happen to me when I've worked on computers. Thats reserved for when I work on cars.

I have a few...

I used to use my full tower case with no side panels and a plank of wood on top as my desk (no shit, my bed was the seat, this is when I first built my computer and spent every penny I had on hardware). I can't even count the number of times I accidentally kicked my sound card. Locked the computer up every single time. I once even kicked my video card, no damage.

My motherboard has died for no reason at all twice in about six months.

I had a couple of big ass 12v fans attached to a plank of wood, which I decided to use to cool my case (previously used to cool a car stereo amplifier). The switching device consisted of a power wire cut in half, stripped at both ends. To switch it on, I twist them together. To switch off I pull them apart. Once I dropped the power wire and it hit my case, the computer shut off instantly with a big as spark. About 15 minutes later it started up again.

I once got pissed off with my sound card, so I threw it against a wall and proceeded to kick it around my room. I put it into my other computer and it still works fine.

This is all in the space of about 7 months.

Don't even get me started on car dramas :dozey:

Wow, interesting stuff.

I've also had loads of 'Oh Crap' moments with my computer, when I was convinced I had broken everything.

One stupid thing I tried to do was open up a dead harddrive (luckily I couldn't). I have also dropped a tower case full of components onto my foot when I was holding it, but I was fine (I was lucky, I could have injured my foot, or worse, the computer).

Hahaha, I dropped an engine block complete with pistons and a crank onto my fingers, much worse than a computer on your foot, much heavier.

I dropped my shiny new coolermaster case down the stairs.Luckily it didnt have any components in it but it still pissed me off.

Forgot to plug the cpu fan in after spending about 15 minutes getting the thermal paste exactly even. Luckily my computer realised and shut down immediately but the cpu did reach over 90oC.

Overclocked the crap out of my new x800pro to see how far it would go, took it too far and got 'No Signal' on my monitor for an hour then suddenly it starts working again. Scared the crap out of me especially as i had just spent £300 on it.
