Exclamation mark on maps in WarCraft 3.

What do the exclamation marks mean in WarCraft 3 multiplayer that appear an the minimap? I've seen people head towards them as soon as they appear but I've never known what they mean...

usually means enemies. You can make the appear by (i tihnk) alt+click ont he map. Its just used as a general alert for that area.

IIRC it just means that there is a battle there, and if you have a teammate it is probably a beacon which is signaling for your help.

Haven't played the game in forever and I forgot though.

you can do it too... hold alt and left click on the map.
it's just a signaling to your teammates to get their attention there.

it's called a ping... you ping the map so that you can be like "get here and help me kill these creep biatch" or something like that to your teammate

That's usefull. Or be like "Send your forces here so when I engage the enemy, you can flank their base!"

ahhhhh, that makes heaps more sense now. I thought it something to do with enemies attacking creeps or something, like giving away their position. All along it's been an ally telling me where they want to meet up for example.

The exclamation marks are known as "Pings", Pings generally show where someone is attacking or if someone as seen a group of enemy soldiers.

Generally for areas of interest.

Shortcut to do a ping yourself is hold Alt + G and left click where you want on the screen. Enemy expansions, forces, and harassment are common reasons for pings, as well as informing which area to attack, etc etc.

Drawing with it would be pretty hard though, it disappears pretty quick. If you want to draw, better off doing it with farms / burrows.
