F.E.A.R beta has now gone public.

WORST MP game I've played in a long time, this game attracts the wrong crowd, all the idiots who like to go rambo and shoot everything that moves. Even with the HUD overlay that displays your team's position I was teamkilled about fifty times in less than twenty minutes.

Singleplayer should be nice though.

Ohh C`mon! If a game is not able to run a least above 60 fps with a computer like yours then something is wrong with this game, even the graphics are not that great
edit turns out my firewall was blocking it, probably explains the low fps, just unblocked it, ran fine although the test demo was still averaging 31fps, effects are lovely to look at, particurly the shadows created on objects from your muzzle flash, very nice, map was very bland though.

But can a Firewall really be capping your fps? I think a firewall would take some resources from the computer making the game stutters and stuff, but fps should be pretty much the same, anyway, I don’t think we will see a big multiplayer community around this game, sp is the most important part of this game, and the part that I am really looking forward to.

While he may have a nice graphics card his cpu is still crap in all honesty. You can't just buy a top line gfx card and expect it to make your pc the best. I've got an x800pro with 1gb ddr400 and a 2.6amd cpu clocked at 3.2ghz and i know how much that cpu holds back my pc in games.

58 minutes to wait, just to start downloading!.

I'm hugely dissapointed - this is a big pile of wank. I'm a big fan of fragfests, but this just feels hugely dated and overly repetitive. Spawn, shoot, die, spawn, die, spawn, die... ugh. I hope the SP is decent, because this certainly isn't.

If anyone asks, I have a 512 MB X800 and a 3.6 GHz CPU :)

Sometimes you have to lie to get what you want, I'm waiting in line

i just played a few rounds, thought it was fun, pure dm but it was a good rush, the effects are amazing, office is a good map, weapons could use a bit more 'umph' in the sound department. Sp hopefully will be a blast.

dunno but its playing better now anyway.

Trust me, my rarely wrong 'sixth sense' with games tells me singleplayer will suck just as much.

Oh, and I didn't even play the FEAR beta, I knew it was gonna stink. At least for me.

I just played 2 games then uninstalled. Biggest waste of disk space in a while. Axyon's "pile of wank" is the best I can describe this.

Not to mention that it runs like crap. I still stick by that PC's aren't ready for fully dynamic lighting yet. Doom 3 got away with it because of all the darkness. Lightmaps are gooooooooooooood.

*goes and plays the BF2 demo for the 50th time*

It is most likely Vsync. That caps your fps to a constant 30fps or 60fps depending on the situation. That is to prevent gfx tearing, made worse if your LCD monitor has a long response time. There are similar measures in Doom3.

Recommended settings look shite on my config but hey, at least it's smooth

Very tense multiplayer. The weapons feel a bit cumbersome, and sometimes it takes a second to realise if someone is on your team or not, but I really liked it. :) And since doesn't take too long to get into a game, it's perrect for loading up and playing for a few minutes while you're bored. :)

Though the textures left a lot to be desired. :x The SP looks a lot better.

i saw on an interview with a producer in G4 that said if you can run HL2 you can run FEAR, but I played the beta of FEAR and HL2 runs alot better, so... I dunno.. HL2 looks alot prettier on my new machine as well, I know i don't have the best vid card out there but come on... (X500 ATI radeon, 512 MB RAM 2.8 Ghz)

just played a bit more, its the hottest my graphics card has ever got anyway. reached 68c, never saw it go above 60.

it is a beta, i'm sure the final version will be far more optomized

Runs smooth (everything else max, but textures medium and no soft shadows, 1024*768 res), I have 9800pro, 756mb 400ddr and an AMD XP 2400+. First it was choppy as hell, but then I switched off the soft shadowing. The hit boxes are way off, I miss a guy with like 5m and I still kill him. But still I really enjoyed playing it and I just love that jump kick!

It keeps on stopping for 6 seconds everytime i play. Its very annoying. Anyone know a solution?:(

Its fun with the slow motion aspect on, but yah, besides that, it gets old fast. Id rather play BF2.

How come I get the CD-Key Verification Failed error every single time? It like erases the CD Key I just entered right when I click "Back" on the menu to join a server... The CD Key is fine, but it just won't work online. Then when it seems it will work, it just freezes.

Rawr.

this game really sucks.........
i thought it would be much, much better........
i guess its just another BIA :dozey:

Play both style.......I v'nt played it yet, waitin for full version. :/

If you guys want a challenge, try using melee moves only. Put away your weapon so you have your fist out, this makes you run a lot faster. Use kicking moves since it kills people in one hit pretty much.

Forward + alt-fire + crouch = sliding
In-air + alt-fire = multiple kicks forward
Jumping forward + back + alt-fire = you're character stops in mid-air and uses one leg that sweeps right to left.

Not sure if anything has changed since the last beta.

Edit: Fixed the sliding combo, it has a pretty slow recovery, so use it when you are sure you will hit your target.

Oh wow, this game has quite possibly the worst performance ever. Anyone with out a really nice system, really nice as in, 6800 GT/x800 pro or better, and a CPU somewhere along the lines of a A-64 3500+ shouldn't even bother with this. I put all the settings on low, even 800x600 resolution, and it STILL ran terrible. The singleplayer better not run like this. I'm really disappointed.

Must be your PC; mine runs great. Remember that it's still BETA. :p

/me downloads to see.

Can't be my PC Kage, I run CS:S at 16x12@77hz with 2xAA/AF, everything else on high, and it's smooth as baby shit, but in Fear I need to keep it at 1024x768 with everything on minimum. By doing that though, it looks really really bad, but plays smoothly. Meh.

The effects in slomo and the kicks are all it has going for it.

"Frraaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggggg oooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuuttttttttttttt!!!..........."

Why do you have AA turned on when you're playing at 1600x1200? It's stupid.

I run it on 1024*768 everything on high. it`s very playable. the performance test says it`s not playable.

athlon xp 2400
512 mb 400mhz ram
9500 pro

I believe the singleplayer will be extremely nice.

i can't believe people actually judge what the full single player game is going to be like when they've played like a quarter of the game....it being the multiplayer portion which has sucked dick for many other great games, half-life 2 deathmatch being a prime example. that has a gimmick of being able to chuck filing cabinets at people whereas fear has slow motion. pisses me off so much SINGLE PLAYER IS GOING TO BE CRAP BECAUSE THE MULTIPLAYER, WHICH THEY SAID WASN'T GOING TO BE THEIR MAIN FOCUS, ISN'T ANYTHING INNOVATIVE

give them a break

half-life 2 deathmatch being a prime example
Well if your going to inlude HL2DM as it's MP you should include all the mods to.
Now CS:S is technically HL2's true multiplayer.....

I dont understand why everyone thinks this sucks so much. I think its very nice deathmatch, shooting and killing is very satisfying, even if some of the weapon sounds are not too fancy. All the dust and smoke and sparks flying around is just amazing. Together with the sounds they really give you a nice feel of action.

Somebody was complaining about performance, ill give you a hint: Disable shadows. It looks alot like same, but I could put 1024x760x32 with 2x fsaa, and almost every option to maximum with Athlon 2000+, 1 gig of ram and 9600XT. Looks very nice.

Ok, fine. I'll give you a better example than HL2:

NOLF
NOLF 2

Both games are made by Monolith, just like this one. NOLF one had a very basic deathmatch mode similar to this (although I did kinda enjoy it) and NOLF2 had an absolutely terrible "co-op" only mode (although to be fair they later patched in basic deathmatch/TDM and a somewhat entertaining CTF mode). Now although both of these games had at best below average multiplayer modes, they are still great single player games.

Not only that, but this is a damn beta. I'm not sure if this is even all the game modes they'll have in the final, give the game a chance.

give the game a chance.
I've never even played it yet lol. Of course I'll give fear a chance :). After seeing some of the fire on a Pc:G screenshot.. I just new I would have give it a chance.
