The FBI yesterday executed 40 search warrants around the US to gather evidence on the Anonymous distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks in defense of WikiLeaks last year—attacks which targeted Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, and Amazon. And when the FBI comes a-knockin', the whole house starts a rockin'.

Ars has seen posts from a private forum in which several targets of the FBI raids offer brief descriptions of the experience, along with the occasional photo of a beaten-in front door. We cannot guarantee the authenticity of these accounts, though we believe them to be genuine.

6am, door busted down (NOT KIDDING), "FBI FBI FBI POLICE FBI GET YOUR ARMS UP AND DONT MOVE THEM. WALK DOWNSTAIRS RIGHT NOW. DO NOT MOVE YOUR HANDS." --- TWO *REAL* GUNS POINTED AT ME.

me in 1 cop car, gf in other car.

took 3.5 hrs, all electronic devices taken including 3 computers. said nearly nothing. finally left.

Revolution's coming, boys.

Assuming a few more political pieces fall the right way, that is.

So, Anonymous is not just one person but a group of people? It's a bit confusing.

Wait you thought it was just one guy all this time? Some lone, near-omnipotent anti-hero of the internet wearing a V mask and executing DDoS attacks (note: the first D is for "distributed," meaning much more than one person) all by themself?

Yeah okay.

Yeah okay.

We can't all have amazing powers of perception.

You're kidding right? Whenever I heard of anon actions, it was always obvious that it was a group effort.

Damn, I wish I thought it was all one person. That guy would be the greatest person in the world. Singlehandedly bringing Scientology out of the closet as a psycho religion, trolling preteen girls on webcams so hard that it gets national recognition by news corporations. Blowing up vans. Uploading all that porn onto youtube. All that vigilante justice. All of it by one guy? Damn. Thats a world I'd want to live in.

I'm not arguing with what you said, since it's all true, but a DDoS attack can be executed by one individual if he has zombie computers of unsuspecting people.

do they will get jailed? cuz hey I find this worrying if they srtat arresting people for that

Not to mention a massively easy life for law enforcement officials; you only need to nap one guy. Like Osama.

Not sure why you'd be worried for people being arrested for something that was clearly illegal and therefore wrong.

who here thinks they (he/she/it) will be charged with terrorism. I'm willing to bet they'll throw the book at them to prove a point

You do illegal shit, you get in trouble. If you aren't technically skilled enough to DDoS someone with the LOIC without leaving tracks, don't do it. Simple. The only issue I really have with this is that the government hasn't bothered investigating the DDoS attacks on Wikileaks, yet they are prepared to kick down people's doors over Visa and Mastercard. Makes sense, unfortunately, but it's still depressing.

I really hope those of you saying you don't understand what/who Anonymous is in this thread are trolling or something. I mean seriously, welcome2internet.

well is not like it was such a serious thing

Welcome to the Internet.

Okay, okay, I get it now. I just thought it would've been much more interesting if they were actually breaking into these homes to search for just one man committing all of these attacks. Men can dream, can't they?

well is not like it was such a serious thing

Serious or not, it's still illegal.

well is not like it was such a serious thing

You understand that DDOSing a site is pretty much like going to a mall and boarding up all the entrances, right?

And Numbers wins the coveted "Analogy of the Week" award. Well done.

True anonymity on the Internet is tough to come by—even for Anonymous.
Lesson 1: Nobody is safe on the internets! D:

But it is their own fault really. I know that Anon would like to make out like they're fighting The Man and that The Man is all evil and harsh but you can't exactly have a go at the FBI for... well... upholding U.S Law. It's in their job description.

Inevitably some people are gonna bring up issues with them having their priorites right and so forth but they're still responding to illegal activities.

Sucks to be those Anons that got all their electricals taken, I guess.

You'd think the FBI would have something more important to do than bust 15 year old script kiddies who use LOIC on their parents computer.

No, they can't. Dreaming is for little children and women. MEN MUST HAVE NO DREAMS, ONLY AMBITION.

Those FBI agents got balls raiding DDoS attackers' houses packing only handguns. I hope they at least had them loaded with AP rounds, better safe than sorry.

How could this possibly be terrorism?
