So I have finally finished the game, and I got to say that the ending is awesome. To be more presiced its a climax followed by an anti-climax (whether they did that on purpose, still it was the best move on monoliths part)

A massive explosion occurs at the end of the game. It is debatable whether or not it was nuclear, but it had the equivalent power of such a device (believe me, the explosion was awesome, best explosion I've seen in a FPS full stop, better thatn the HL2 Ending explosion I think). You are then picked up by a black-hawk helicopter with the rest of you teammates, after which you get to see the explosion aftermath (mushroom cloud). One of your teammates mentions the whereabouts of Alma, the little girl you presumably killed earlier on. All of a sudden the power cuts out of the helicopter, and Alma crawls in the copter......

Roll on Credits

I believe its possible to make a sequel. My reasons are as follows...
-The anti-climax at the end of the game
-The technology Monolith have in their possesion, the oppurtunity shouldn't be passed up
-Preview Screenshots indicate a car chase
-This could be a gruff version of the Ghostbusters :D

So what do you believe

they also never really reveal to the main character that he was in fact the first of the brothers, but it's clear the government knows and is going to try to cover it up
i'd like to see a sequel, personally, albiet with a bit more gameplay and some more varied environments

Who and Why did the Senator make a few calls at the beginning of the game, I don't think he called FEAR. unless he did call them, but didn't mention origin.

Its pretty obvious there will be a fourth party involved, and yes this party will be highly political, perhaps the CIA

It was awefully lonely in the game, it would be nice to have a sidekick at all times

Yes, I really hope so.

This has probably been said 100 times before, but F.E.A.R. got one of the best endings in a game ever imo. :)

would the "100 times before" be from one person, i.e. you ;)

Definately, they wouldn not have done that end scene
where she crawls onto the chopper
wouldn't have occured, they left it like a bit of a cliffhanger on purpose to prepare us for the next game. my thoughts anyway

I actually find its shame your character doesn't talk. If he did, then he would be able to ask questions to his superior (ones that we are probably dying to hear the answer to)

The car chase part was removed from the game because it didn't work well. They talk about it during the commentary on the dvd

If you wait through the credits, there's another small talk with the Senator; the woman mentions something about the prototype working perfectly. I beleive she's talking about you, as you and Fettel are both prototypes

I thought Alma was the First prototype, Fettel was the second. It makes sense that since you come from the same mother, you would be the Third. A laptop download, however, indicates after the first two proto's they stopped the origin project?

Yeah I was thinking about that, you're probably right
But she said that the first prototype worked perfectly, I think, and I kind of assumed that since you're still alive they were referring to you

Now that you said that, I have a different theory

-You are the first prototype
-Paxton Fettel is the second, but you are not aware that he is you brother
-Alma was part of a different project

Alma is the subject of the Origin project, she's not a prototype per-sae since the Origin project was built on her to apparently create psychic offspring that could lead an army into battle, this leaves me to believe that you are indeed the first prototype and Fatell is the second. Somehow the people at ATC managed to get you onto a F.E.A.R. squad, perhaps to test your capabilities. In the player character in F.E.A.R. they've managed to create a super-soldier. It still leaves it a bit open as to how exactly Alma is still psychically communicating with you and Fatell if she's dead

You are most likely the first.
I'm just surprised my guesses about the story of the game were almost dead on.
Yeah... F.E.A.R. 2 is going to come.

When you mentioned the Anti-Climax ending it reminds me of Brood Wars(Starcraft) ending and the secret level :).
The secret level(2nd to the last level) leaves a draw dropping stunning need for a sequel, basically creating part of the basis for the sequel.
God damnit Blizzard, make Sc2!! Don't make such a ending then not finish it :(
*Runs away crying*

A sequel would be a little weird, how would they explain what happened after the ending.

I believe Alma is a psychic projection. Since Alma is already dead and her body was turned to ashes after the explosion, there is no way she is still alive. I say that she is a psychic projection because you are the only person that can see her. Plus she can still kill people. I think the reason why she's still even alive is because you are alive. I think those who are born from Alma are linked together, because I think she was giving Fettel orders to free her.

The only thing I can think of is maybe the government coming after you since you are a successful proto-type. Although I won't know how the entire Alma thing would fit into it.

As much as I would love a continuation, I don't see it happening. I think the ending was done that way just to have one last "oh snap!" moment, nothing really serious. Atleast thats what I get out of it.

Wow

Possibly the coolest looking most intense ending EVER?

How about the whole end of the game! Wow once you get into the fault my heart was going to jump out of me. Man it was ****ing INTENSE. My heart was POUNDING the whole way through!

I would LOVE a F.E.A.R 2. I know they can think of something! Alma was just a vision a last worry as they say. She wasnt really there at the end. Just something of many things they can use to explain it.

I would really love a F.E.A.R 2 and i would love it to stay the way it is. I just cant stop thinking of what monolith can make with this story.

About the environments people say they were to simple but i feel the are REAL. They look so real, they look like REAL places.

I would like to see more types or REAL places tho. I feel F.E.A.R was perfect, simply put these guys have talent and i cant wait to play their next game.

Half Life 2's explosion was lame... Not very explosionish at all.

The guy who says in the begining "Effer's got a appetite". But yeah, poor noob dies....

They never actually show it, but in that collectors version of the game they explain to you that he does indeed die and that they were going to make him appear in the game and you were supposed to find his body, but they decided to just let it up to the player to figure it out.

OT, but I wanted to ask what is the difference between the DC and the normal version?

Just because they look REAL doesn't mean they shouldn't be varied. It doesn't matter whether they look REAL or not, there is still alot of room for variation. But don't worry, other, more varied locations can look REAL as well.

Fears ending sounds awesome mind.

It was pretty obvious your team mate died because the same thing happend with Alice when she died, you'd see him/her and then they'd turn to ashes. It also leaves it open as to if the PC knows he was a "prototype". I mean he must remember something about ATC musn't he? Unless they wiped his memory.

Also the chances of a sequel are almost certain, they've created an I.P. here that's interesting to people and developers and publishers rarely let go of a popular I.P. easily.

Well you can't say that it's because he turns to ashes. In the first part of the game when he kicks the door open and bursts in he turns into ashes. He certainly wasn't dead then.

Jakawski died, you come across his skeleton later on and I believe you see his ghosting just before you enter the room where that skeleton is

I dont think there will be a sequal, The story seems pretty closed. There would be trouble making it suspensful now you know about Alma ect. heres some ideas but
Firstly Alma is not a prototype. There is indeed only two, Fettle and yourself. Alma was somehow born or got psychic powers and the operation was to try and find a way to genetically pass that gift onto offspring. She was put into the Vault at age 8, I hear she slipped into a coma at some point. Anyway some how they got her pregnant, she gave birth and she passed away (I think thats when the coma was induced). She was infact dead, so the explosion or us didnt really kill her, she died years ago and was some kind of aparation. The operation was closed and the facility abandoned until recently there was reports of ground water pollution. Whether this was Almas doing or not is unknown, but in any event they had to reopen the plant so that they could fix the problem, and it was at this point that somehow alma was able to make contact with fettle (perhaps the opening of the vault).

And yeah, shes our mum, Harland and Veronica are related to us as is Fettle. I dont know why fettle was going after her but I think it had something to do with her being able to get in his mind, remember before he died he said she couldnt get into ours, only us into hers.

Anyway I dont think there will be a sequal. Its not really enough elements open apart from the fact you saw her on the chopper and I think that was more for shock. Also I think the reason she appears as a kid is because that is when she died but when you finally enter the vault you see her as an old lady that she would have been had she not died (or maybe thats what her corpse looks like). Anyway thats all, and I dont know why she attacked us at the end either, maybe only after we defeat her does she realise we are her son since she hasnt been able to see inside our mind like she did fettle, the psychic connection was different. At the end she does say something I think like "i know who you are" or something, cant remember.

Anyway was one of the best endings ever, that dream sequence was brilliant and really was alot more captivating than the bomb if you ask me.

Ohh and theres a phone call at the end of the credits which basically confirms we were the 1st prototype (since the game says there was only two)

Ohh and how she kills people without touching them, its using those spirits that attack us later on in the game ;)

What's with all the spoiler tags? There's a warning in the thread title for god's sakes, you can only blame yourself for opening the thread. :p

Anyway, you know Jankowski's dead, because you see a flash of his dead body before seeing him walking down the corridor; remember that the same thing happened with all the other people Fettel killed. As for picking up his signal all the time, it's just one of those things that never gets explained.

For me to like the game, they would have to add variety into the game, the enviroments where so samey. The combat got predictable, the scares got predictable, and towards the end the plot got predictable.

That would be my biggest complaint, the game was way to predictable in everyway.

And the ending was 'meh' wow a big explosion with buildings that look like squares with no detail whatso ever and about 3 colours shared between them? and the nuclear explosion that was about 20 sprites arranged to look like a mushroom cloud with a flat background. And Alma climbing back into the helicopter, /sarcasm did not see that one coming from 100 miles away /sarcasm

There will be a sequel if the sales statistics for fear 1 are big enough.

I compared it to HL2 explosion because they were both unique (Not seen often in FPS). What is actually better, explosion slowing down with time or a massive nuclear-equivalent explosion)

^Ben, stop being so fcking negative. "Oh I just got a blowjob from a beautiful girl, wasnt so wonderful afterall, just slime everywhere."

Anyhow... I like to think that Alma was pretty ****ing pissed at the end, the explosion in didnt kill/destroy her, it was partially made by her, I think. How could you destroy her with a simple explosion if she's already dead? Alma climbing into the helicopter was a sign that she won, and she's going to go on a kill frenzy all over the world. Fettel gave us a hint what's going to happen - "A war is coming. Ive seen it in my dreams. Bodies on the streets, cities turn to dust...". When Alma got control of him, he transferred the images of what she's going to do when she gets free.

That would atleast be a original ending to a game for once, eh?

I forgot Cukel, I can't have an opinion about a game and have to be in the fanboys circle jerk.

There where glaring flaws with fear1 IMO, when they hype dies down maybe some of you will go past the circle jerk of fanboydem and would admit that.

Man it's a great game, just because we like it a lot and you don't doesn't mean it's a "fanboy circle jerk"
You're entitled to your opinion, but we've all heard it and you can stop shoving it down our throats now
