FFXIII gameplay demo videos, but...

looks a ****load better than 12, and thats saying something.

The combat looks like it's gone back to the ancient boring style. Why didn't they stick with 12's?

Ya I thought they were gonna stick with 12's battle system!! WTF! And now that I watch those videos again it almost looks like a mix of both 12's style and previous FF games!

Because it sucked?
The only thing that sucked was you. Get out.

Seriously, FFXII was hands down the best main FF game since VII IMO.

In fact, I personally felt it was better than VII.

I don't know, I couldn't get into the whole battle type. I essentially forced myself to drudge through it just to go on with the story. Saying I sucked was a laugh. I couldn't find a way to suck at that game lol

*EDIT* I agree, I go with it being the best FF since VII...though, tbh, that wasn't saying much, considering what they were.

It looks like shit compared to what they promised. WTF was the entire hype behind this? Just because the title "Final Fantasy" is attached to it?
Congratulations, my friend. You've finally discovered the secret behind Final Fantasy.

Go now and live your life in peace. You will never again be fooled by belts, zippers, effeminate men and giant swords.

Nah, we're using it as a time stamp. The LAST decent FF was VII. Nowhere did we say it was the best.

It's not like you have an obligation to buy the game, I'm probably going to pass on this till it a cheapie.

Hell guys atleast they don't do their stupid ****in victory dances anymore.
I still hate that they have to flash to another screen to fight, it really pisses me off especially how quickly that music gets BORING as **** when its restarting every minute for another battle. In the past its never bothered me, but now it just seems..so ancient...

Depending on when it's released *SCII and what not* I'll pick it up straight away. I always enjoyed random encounters. I don't know why.

Yeah, I want to like this game so badly, but every new bit of info I see makes me a little sadder. First the completely ridiculous Chocofro (as I heard him described in another forum) walking stereotype, and now we learn that the battle system is a complete step back from FF12 (which had my favorite battle system since Chrono Trigger). I'm sure the strategery is good, but seriously... a battle map? I thought we were past that.

Yea, square is probably going to play it close to their chest with these games from now on, especially ever since the main designer left the FF series has had a ridiculous amount of spin offs.

Ugh, yeah, I watched a guy stream the demo and trailers over and over again the other night and was left a little limp at the sight of the relatively boring combat system, not to mention the same damn enemies in the demo repeated ad nauseum. Obviously there will be a whole lot more to the game, but this did not impress at all. Hopefully Versus will be the new shining star for this sorely lagging company.

(And I agree with everyone who said XII was one of the best. I am still not sure if it beats VI (III), but it is one of my all-time favorite games PERIOD so that says a lot. Plus, upscaled on a PS3 it looks as good if not better than some so-called "next-gen" titles.)

To reiterate.

This series hasn't evolved in a meaningful way, ever, except maybe for the Gambit battle system in FF12. Story's the same, characters are the same (misleadingly-slightly-diminuitive lead, the secondary-character love interest, the tough guy with a quirk, and so on), graphics are the same per generation, the art direction is always too similar - to say "the same" wouldn't be accurate - and the gameplay never changes.

Final Fantasy is the Madden of RPGs.

lol I was about to say the samething. Then again it seems like that's how most RPG series are in general, its the same with Dragon Quest. Isn't that whole series damn near the same game everytime?

Yes, but I am insanely compelled to play everyone and absolutely LOVE it everytime! Really a testament to...something. :E

FF is not the same. I got X when it first came out and to this day cannot get into it. XII on the other hand was AMAZING a a HUGE improvement to the series. Too bad it looks like they have devolved.

Are you deluded?

8/9/10/12 look completely different. Take away the characters and you'd be able to tell each game apart easily.

Looks alright.

I knew the gameplay couldn't be anything like what was shown in the earlier trailers, though.

I never played 12 so I can't judge it, though I'll admit it definitely looks like the only game that has significantly changed from previous games. From my perspective though is that FF is a lot like madden in that it rarely tries to deviate from the norm, after all why should it? It has no competition so why even bother trying to do something different? When you consider 7, 8, and 9 there really isn't many big changes to their overall design philosophy..hell even with ff11 it really isn't any different than any other MMO. I'll still check out 13 cause I'm a huge fan of anything FF related, but it really bothers me that FF has become the ultimate cash cow for square with all the rereleases, spin offs..etc. Yea this isn't anything new but come on...its getting alittle out of hand nowadays.

For some reason, I get a taste of Chorno Cross when watching that... *With the whole time gauge + selecting multiple attacks on one turn thing..*

I've not read up on this at all, so I can't say for sure how the battle is controlled.

I like what I've seen so far...except for the transforming summons and some of the writing.

The story looks the same old level of daft, the characters give off a heavily dawson's-creekish Final Fantasy VIII vibe that still doesn't appeal and there are no ****ing moogles.

My hopes aren't high, but it's at least looking less-rushed and poorly constructed than the utterly awful Final Fantasy X. Yet it's in real danger of being a Final Fantasy XII. At least I can remember why I will never touch 10 again. 12 was just... they must have used some heavy compression to fit that much lack of notability onto a single DVD. Not only was it impossible to care for the characters, it's the first game I've ever played where the game just plain didn't care about me enough to pretend it wasn't an automated time pisser. 13 just has this air about it, brimming with cliche and teenage angst as it clearly is. Worse still, the insular city setting remind me of Overman King Gainer and nothing should be allowed to do that.

I haven't played much of the FF to give a damn about being repetitive but I've finished Crisis Core, currently playing VII and almost done with Dissidia. I've put about 15 hrs into X and it was pretty decent but I've never gone back to it. I just wish these games were 40 hrs instead of 100 because I don't have the devotion to put much into them tbh. I've played a bunch of the older FF games too but I will probably try to finish all my Final Fantasy games before I buy the new one

How are Darkseid, Stigmata, and I the only ones not excited for this? You're excited for Final Fantasy? Really?

Your image didnt work because there's only one "f" in the extension of a tiff file. *.tif yo.

You should read the thread again. It doesn't look like many people here really even care about it. It is just a Final Fantasy game after all.

@Dalamari: Ironic that its a jpg.

You guys are nuts. XII was arguably the best game in the series for what it tried to add to the relatively stale FF games. This LOOKS good, but the combat seems to have taken a huge step backwards and sadly that is a HUGE part of what FF is. Unless the story somehow involves Kefka, I may have to sit this one out.

We shouldn't hand out brownie points for simply trying something different. Yes FF gameplay is shit. FFXII just found a new way of giving us even less control over our characters.

There's a remote chance that some people who don't care about the game don't post saying that they don't care.
