Hello,

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Half-Life² Community, I would like to introduce you to our modification called Fields of Glory.

What is Fields of Glory (FoG)?

What we're trying to touch with our Total Conversion is an quite unattended subject in the First-Person genre: The Medieval ages with their bloody battlefields.

Intensive fights with crashing swords, the sound of war resounding from all flanks, gasping horses with shining armour and lance-armed horsemen storming towards the already reloading enemy archers who let their arrows rain down on them, their arrows blacking out the sun, interrupted by the ear-battering impacts of the thunderous siege weapons smashing their weapons and ammo against huge, magestic castles.

That's what Fields of Glory is going to be like.

The Mod focuses on the Hundred Years War, a war that actually lasted around 123 Years, beginning in the Year 1337, between France and Britain. At the moment we're designing the game modes, and we're setting high value on exciting and action-loaded sieges, with a well-balanced and enjoyable amount of realism. Who didn't dream of assaulting a castle with trebuchets, rams and ladders, while the enemy is trying to stop you with boiling water, burning arrows and gigantic rocks?

In past times, Fields of Glory was a modification based on the tactical shooter Soldner: Secret Wars and is therefore already in development for quite a long time. Unfortunately Soldner wasn't the best basis for a big modification, since it caused some major modding problems. For this reason, the Half-Life² engine is superior in almost every aspect and more than appropriate to fulfill our ideas.

In the elapsed 18 months (!) development time - not including the change-over time to get to the HL² engine - we created over 50 models, covered many of them with a skin and searched for groundbreaking and fun-orientated game modes. Of course, the input of our fans was important and precious all the time. We will try to keep on picking up ideas and grow by your criticism - but even the best ideas can't by implemented with only a small team.

That's why we're asking for active cooperation. Since our team shrunk to the minimum-size due to the changeover to the HL² engine, we're looking for Coders, Scripters, Modelers (especially for organic models), Skinners, Animators and Sound-Specialists. As you can see on our completed models and beautiful wallpapers in our media-section, we're no lazy team with wannabe-ambitions.

Interested? Want to help us? Contact us by joining out IRC-Channel #FoGmod (QuakeNet), reporting in our Forum or by mailing [email protected] .

You can find our newly redesigned homepage here: http://www.fieldsofglory.net/ . We apologize for any errors on the site and are working to fix any problems anyone has.

Fell free to write us your ideas and feedback in our board, we're happy about every friendly, or indeed critic, visitor.

See you on the battlefield.

It's good to see such a mod!
Are you planning on horses? Does the Source engine handle clipping better then others?

Thanks.

Yes, we're planning horses. The Source engine appears to handle clipping well in some situations, but has some trouble in others. We'll make sure to make everything as bug-free as possible: We plan on releasing at Version 1.0, with rigorous testing, so bugs should be minimal.

He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam’d,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say “To-morrow is Saint Crispian.”
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say “These wounds I had on Crispian’s day.”
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he’ll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day.

Do this one right and it will be awesome. Massive battles, emphasis on using archery to wear down the enemy.

sounds nice but I doubt it will ever happen. These ideas of "this is what our mod will feel like" always seem a bit overblown to me. CS could be described as a visceral action packed experience. You and a squad of elite modern-day warriors take on the roll of terrorists or counter-terrorists with one united goal. Bullets whizzing past your ears, the thud of your heartbeat, the shouts of your comrades, and the gripping fear of the most realistic combat experience ever. Oh yeah, and l4mer n00bs who wallhack and always get headshots. "STFU J00 L4MZ0RZ 1M N07 H4X1NG!!"

It began in the year 1337? That's 1337!

Might want to check out Falandir or whatever that other medieval mod is called.

Sounds pretty cool, good luck! :D:D

"Medieval gaming". Heh.

Your vision seems to crave way too many NPCs/players around at the same time.

sounds pretty cool to me. now im no mad maker, but i am sick of seeing mods whose weapons look like shit. im sure its really hard, but DOD and CS have great original skins. i just dont get how someone can release a game when the models look like stuff that came put of my anus. well anyway, this mod sounds cool. just make the weapons look awesoem

Will u be able to use the title Field of Glory, is that a copyright title ;)

You can't really say that the skins are very original since they're based off of weapons that really exist.
