I am getting a message about a problem with filesystem_steam.dll I did some research, and tired copying some files and stuff. But it is not helping. I tired a couple maps and they both give the same error. Any ideas?

It's been a while since this one showed up. But, evidently, no one in Custom Mapping ever figured it out :p

I bring you this from my list of errors:
Error
Could not load filesystem_steam.dll

Fix
This can be caused by several things. If you're running HL2 via the HL2.EXE executable and didn't declare a game (via -game modfolder in the command line), you can get this error. Also, if the compile tools couldn't find filesystem_steam.dll (which is usually in sourcesdk\bin), they'll report this error; the fix is to make sure your compile tools are in a folder with a filesystem_steam.dll file, and copy filesystem_steam.dll to their folder if you have to. It may even be necessary to run the Source SDK's "Reset Game Configurations" tool.

I do not have a copy of a good file. Can you send me one? I am using the Steam Editor in simple mode, so I would hope that it includes the -game parameter. Also, I think I have tried removing and re-downloading the SDK, and it did not work. I have not used it since about October. When were other people haveing problems? It was working fine until I stopped using it, then it got angry and stopped working when I tried to use it recently :) Does it matter how I open steam? I just double click the icon here: C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam

Edit: I verified it. Re-install does NOT help at all. HELP!!!!!!!!!! :)

Have you run the games? Which game are you mapping for, and what are Hammer's options? Is a compile log available?

I am running HL2 single and multiplayer DM. I am mapping for HL2 multiplayer (DM). I think I have played CS, but not for a long time. I do get a log, but no errors or anything strange. I will try and post it later.

First, you have a leak
Code:

I cant find what is wrong with the leak.

Check attachment.

2 things. First I already said that this happens on maps I know used to be good.

Also, I think I may have found part of the problem. When you 'delete offline content' it does not do anything useful.

I am having a similar problem with Darwinia. I want to re-install it because it is mixed up, but when I deleted and re-downloaded everything was IDENTICAl. even my game saves... Is there a way to NUKE the stuff? Maybe I should just delete the HL2 folders? Or VALVE :)

First: I highly doubt your map has ever been alright.
Second: Your map has a leak.
Third: Your "floor" is an entity (wich do not block vis), and wich produces the leak. So you have to convert it back to a brush.
Fourth: You have to run all the game before trying to launch your map. Youll have to do that almost every time there is a Steam update.
Fiveuhteth: Put some lights in your level.
Sixth: Put cubemaps in your level and build them.
Seventh: Englobing your map with a big hollow cude is not recommended. This is what I call a newb brush. Doing this will slow compile time and will cause lag. Youll have to optimize your map. Reduce the texture tiling, use nodraw textures, put some hint brushes, occluders, try not to make brushes intersect each other (its usually not too bad with entities but not recommended anyway), don't let brush cylinders touch other brushes or convert em to entities.
Eighfjwehfyth: This map looks wierd!

Alright, just wanted to make sure I understood u right. U seemed a little mad.

The only reason I was getting this map to work is because it is a rough draft that compiles in 1 minute instead of another map I have that takes about 10 hours.

Anyway, how does my log look now? I still get the exact same error message:

lol I'm not mad at all.
Your compile log looks fine now so I think your map compiled properly.
Now open Half-Life 2 Deathmatch, click on create Server, choose your map and enjoy.

Why do I get that error message when it tries to load it?

It should be alright if you run all the games that are installed on Steam but if it doesn't work then you can validate each of em and also reset the SDK.

steam://validate/220
steam://validate/320
steam://validate/211
steam://validate/240

I just noticed, after manually running DM that it is working now. Thanks!
