Films: Rate and Discuss

Fair play to Viggo on what he clearly put his body through in preperation for the role.

It was completely believable. The whole film seemed so possible.

the film version of the road is so shockingly rubbish compared to the book, and i don't usually like being ''that guy'' when it comes to books -> movies, but seriously.

I enjoyed both and thought the movie was a worthy effort. It didn't capture the bleakness and utter despair in the book, but the casting and performances were good - I particularly liked the encounters with the old hobbo, black dude, and Guy Pearce - and I liked the sombre pallette and atmosphere.

Let Me In
is a stupendous work of horror and romance, and Chloe Moretz is one of the most talented child actors I have ever seen. Both were absolutely incredible on every level. It has singlehandedly made me no longer despise vampires. That's quite an achievement. I would recommend it to anyone.

I have never seen Let The Right One In, but on its own Let Me In was absolutely fantastic.
I watched half of Let The Right One In and it was really, really boring. I even got to the part where the girl makes her first, maybe second kill? I don't even remember. Maybe I watched the whole thing. I really don't know. It just felt like a completely lifeless film. Then I saw the trailer for Let Me In and I "knew" immediately that it would be much more affecting - looks like I was right :D

[edit] Oh and the child actors were terrible. So that probably was the main reason why the film didn't stir up a single emotion, not even one of interest.

Everything I've heard about Let Me In says that it is pretty much a carbon copy of Let The Right One In, with one single scene taken out and a small.... I don't know... subplot(?) taken out as well, but that subplot didn't have much impact on the overall film in the first place besides making it slightly creepier.

For fans of the original, apparently Let Me In just takes out the
hilarious Cat scene and removes any mention of Eli actually being a boy.
Besides that, I hear it's identical, with each film apparently having different pros and cons over the other. The first one apparently pulls off the 'swimming' scene better whereas the remake deals with its gore generally better from what I've heard.

Stigmata: Thunderclap hasn't seen the original, so you could still dislike the film.

You crazy man, Stig. Let The Right One In is one of the best movies in recent years! It's chilling, tender, shot beautifully, really beautifully, and the girl who plays Eli gives a superbly haunting performance. There's Thin Red Line like calm to Let The Right One In - making time to find something beautifully human in something that is very dark. I haven't seen Let Me In yet, but have seen the original 3 times and it got better with each viewing.

My mother and my girlfriend have seen both films, and both of them said that the two movies were nearly identical, the only big difference being that Abby is unambiguously a girl. You mention the pool scene;

I really liked it because you get the impression that something unbelievably hardcore is going down just offscreen, but the camera's focusing on Owen trying not to drown.

Yes, there is certainly gore, but the worst is left to the imagination, which I like. I've seen it twice now, with my girl and with my folks, and we all loved it. So that's eight thumbs up.

A Nightmare on Elm Street(2010) - 0/10...
Easily the worst remake I have ever seen.
I had hopes that Jackie Earle Haley would do service to the character of Freddy Krueger but I was wrong.
He was incredibly BORING, no charisma at all... not to mention that the make up artist should be ****ing fired.
The movie was not scary. at. all.
It lacked personality and had no atmosphere whatsoever.

Also, they actually ****ing tried at one point to get the characters to SYMPATHIZE with Krueger.
That's just... no.

Do not ever see this movie.

Memento:

HOLY FUDGE THIS IS AMAZING!! :O

I really don't remember being so impressed and so floored by something so original, clever and well done in recent memory....apart from oh yea that other movie the same guy did: inception! :)

Ok THIS is Nolan's best work (i said this about inception at the time) and has probably jumped right in to my top 5 favourite movies of all time list. BRILLIANCE!

*bows before christopher nolan*

You'll probably change your mind again the next time you watch Inception :p And yeah, Memento is a pretty fantastic movie. I've only seen it twice but I think I'll watch it a good dozen or two times before I die.

Twiglight - 3/10

This movie is just plain stupid, clearly made for a particular demographic as far as cinema is concerned. I don't know what got me to watch it, I figured I'd watch it for the lulz. Man oh man, the headbanging with the over the top cheesy romance one liners will make you fall out of your seat and some one will have to revive you from the lameness of the one liners.

"What your seeing... is the look of a killer" oh my god...

Sparkly vamps? lol you must be kidding me.

Twilight's demographic: girls ages between 15 and 19 that scream with glee on cue upon the mentioning of that main actor guy.

Up - 9/10

How does Pixar keep getting better? I mean seriously. This movie is so incredible.

Twilight is gorram hilarious. I love those films, they're a riot.

Cedric Diggory?

15 to 19 year olds watching Twilight are probably more than a little square.

No. They are painful and nothing more. There is absolutely nothing riffable about these ****ing movies.

Except that one bit where the guy's like "worm!" for no apparent reason.

GUY WHO WATCHED THE FIRST TWILIGHT HAS SPOKEN.

It's all hilarious... the acting, the dialogue, the effects. Pure comedy.

I guess some people are just too up-tight to laugh at an awful film.

AND I WATCHED THE FIRST TWO TWILIGHTS THE SECOND IS EVEN FUNNIER

I'll take your word for it, but I'm saving my Twilight sequel-ginity to see how they handle Jacob falling in love with a newborn baby, thankyouverymuch.

(Yes, this happens.)

The second film has Jacob RIP HIS ENTIRE SHIRT OFF to make a small bandage for a tiny cut. I could barely breathe for about five minutes.

I think I have critical grounds to argue that Twilight is the equivalent to modern male pornography for women. As in: intellectually void escapism to satiate physical/emotional desires; barely logical plots, characters, and settings that are just a facade to have the meat chunks do their thing; and a vapid, empty 'protagonist' that is naught but an automaton, who has an ideal physical body and who is desired by all around her, that the viewer casts herself into.

I plan to watch it one night. Sounds good.

Repo Men: doesn't deserve a score/10

$500 says this movie was born by one person who thought he had a good idea. "Hey, what if there were repo men that go around a take body parts back because they owe them to some kind of bank?" Of course this was after about four beers and a few shots. This movie has so many plot holes, it was hard to keep quiet while watching it with my family. When the movie concluded, I exploded. The leads are unlikable, the story--aside from its fairly interesting premise--is dumb, the characters' actions do not make sense, the surgery parts are badly done...it's just really bad. Like The Happening-bad.

The Social Network: 8.5/10

Definitely a movie I want to see again to make sure it isn't just a one-time watch kinda movie. Regardless, the film was damn good. The score (oh yes, you knew I'd have to mention the score) was brilliant and made the movie flow in directions I didn't predict. The dialog (aka the movie) was fast, quick and completely engrossing. Strangely enough, I couldn't indicate a climax to the story while I was watching. I'm sure if I looked at the series of events, I could possibly point one out. I took out my phone to check how long the movie had been going, thinking "how much longer until the climax," and the movie came to a close when I put my phone away. Anyway, go see it. I don't care if it's "The Facebook Movie." It's more than that.

All Quiet on the Western Front(1930) - 10/10

Wow, this was incredible. The battle scenes (or arty scenes, really) were very impressive for the the time. Feels a bit overacted at times (facial expressions) but is beautiful to look at. It's on youtube AFAIK but is worth watching on DVD I'd say.

Stargate Atlantis: Season 1: 9/10

Love this show! to be honest I've only watched Seasons 1 of both SG1, SG:Atlantis and SGU and this is the best of them all. Lots of action, the characters work well with one another, and the places and variety is much better than the others. Not so dark as SGU but not as boring SG1. Plus the CG work still holds up to today's standards

Eh, Atlantis seemed to have much less variety than SG-1 to me and it was much goofier.
Still a decent series though.

I definitely prefer SG-1 out of them all.

Machete - 8/10
This was a god damned blast to watch.
Funny, creative, gory, action-packed, surprisingly well acted, and it had some great music.
Totally getting it on DVD.

Yeah Atlantis was SG1 with the geek factor x1000, I never even watched a single episode it was that bad. Never even gave it a chance actually, with a name like stargate:Atlantis you just know what to expect.

FUBAR II - 7/10

Was really baked when I watched it which I think made it much more enjoyable than what it really was.

First one was obviously way better, this one was too forced I think but still good for some pointless laughs.

Monster: 9/10

Excellent in every way. Theron deserved five Best Actress Awards for her performance.

Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior - 9/10

is a timeless classic.

Shutter Island - 7.5/10

I finally got around to seeing it, after months of hearing about it. & it was just okay, not amazing, not life changing, not mind boggling. just okay. DiCaprio was incredibly good, since Inception I've had somewhat of a bro-crush on him. But even his acting couldn't compensate for the dull, depressive mood of the film. Which I do realise is intentional, considering the story/setting but it was (to me) either overdone, or done incorrectly, I'm still contemplating which.
So yeah, final thoughts; worth seeing for sure, but overly depressing, so much so to the point that it stopped being entertainment & started being a medium for my depression to come into effect.

The Parking Lot Movie

Sometimes the PBS station here shows indie films that I just happen to stumble upon.
This one is a kind of documentary on parking lot attendants near the University of Virginia. I'm not quite sure what to think of it. On the one hand, it's kinda funny and entertaining. On the other hand, it's seething with so much indie flick liberal artsy wankery that it makes me want to throw up a little.

Worth watching though.

Kick Ass 8.999999/10

loved this movie, it was funny, witty, charming, action packed and hit girl was awesome! i want to see a sequel now!

How To Train Your Dragon - 6/10
Utterly cliche-ridden, but fun! Bit weird to have the cast of <insert Judd Apatow movie> voicing a kid's film, mind you...

Mystery Team - 8/10
Fecking hilarious. You can kind of tell it was shot on a budget, and the acting can be a bit amateurish, but that doesn't take much out of it.

The Social Network 8.5/10

Very good solid movie with a great soundtrack, cast and plot. If this is even remotely true and not fluff I think it pulled it off very well. Either way its a must watch

Eden Lake - 7.5/10...

God ****ing damn it I want to beat the shit out of something after watching this.
When it ended I felt extremely pissed off and felt like beating the shit out of something.

Young couple goes to a lake to relax and they get harassed by a gang of teenage shitheads.

One of the more disturbing movies I've seen.

Scott Pilgrim Vs The World - 8/10

I have no idea what the **** it was I just watched, but I ****ing loved it!

BASEketball - 10/10

Easily the funniest film I have ever seen. Trey Parker/Matt Stone's hilarity knows no bounds. I've watched it a thousand times & it still cracks me up everytime without fail.

It is shockingly good, yes. Having the director of Naked Gun on board before he became terrible couldn't have hurt, either.
