Final Boxart (most likely)

Is that the Collectors-edition box?

You mean the mettalic, rusty one?

yep. We assume so, though it is subject to change.

I work as a pre-press engineer (or whatever you call it, i'm not sure, i'm dutch) and those are just color-proofs, they are not of the press. They where made on a Creo color-proofing system (probably only one or a couple prints came out, read the plate-description, it says "creo" somewhere). This doesn't mean it isn't the final box-art, but it's allways subject for change, since it's only a proof used for...erm...proofing :)

When you see a picture with a plate-description that says something like "Roland" or "Heidelberg" (most commonly used presses for printing large amounts of offset stuff) then it'll probably be the final box-art.

The size... yes. But that is where my beloved hybrids come in, like the box of Raven Shield: http://www2.finna.is/myndform/upload/images/tolvuleikir/raven_shield_box.jpg

It's the size of a DVD case, but from cardboard and with opening 'flap' and it's ideal for multiple cd's.
From the looks of it, the upper case Gabe is holding is one of these hopefully meant for the European market (I understand Americans still have bix boxes), and that would own.

nope, we also have the hybrids

There is going to be some sort of hl2 multiplayer, probably CS:S and it's not going to be only in the CE.

Well, didn't someone here say the boxes are two months old or sumthin?

Well, anyway. It's not mentioned on the back of the box but a lot of things aren't. It doesn't mention that there's guns but we've pretty much assumed that.

I'm surprised you can read most of it.

Is it just me or does it say "Broadband Internet Connection or Local Area Network" under recommended system requirements. It's the really long line.

ur comparing guns in a fps game , to multiplayer?!?!?!?
No, just guns in this fps game and multiplayer, since VALVe has stated very clearly that there will be both in the fps. ;)

Does anyone else notice the boxes were printed on 11th of May, That was like 2 months of ago wierd huh.

This is quite normal. The whole box art design process probably started (and finished) before September 30th. Designers are given brief info on what they have to do and given any images necessary to complete the job. This is why we have seen every single image on that box before, including the old screen shots (and the generic blurb).

What I'm saying is that there isn't any mention of firing weapons on the back of the box, but noone is questioning that there's going to be weapons.

Guys, the boxart on the top of the picture (alyx) and the two on the bottom (gordon and gman) are of the same size. The alyx one is just further away from the camera. It's quite simple.

i really hope the game comes in DVD case.. don't like the CD jewel case.. especially with games that have multiple CDs.

Americans don't have big boxes for games anymore. They're about the size of DVD cases, but they're still made of cardboard. I was under the impression European games are released inside plastic DVD cases?

Yeah, except Raven Shield.

So, you guys get excited when you get a cardboard box like us Americans are stuck with? I find this funny, since I'd absolutely love for more games to come out in DVD cases :)

Cardboard feels more personal somehow... Or maybe I'm just being nostalgic.

If you can't be bothered to find out, don't bother to spam, please.

um I think this is really weird, but why didnt they fix this old beta picture ???

The NPCS are really early they just added them enf real quick to get a quick pic for the press ... Why did they put it on the box ????

similarly, the warcraft 3 box has a tower that is grossly large compared to what it's real size is, orc knight units, and the necropolis has a pool around it.
More on topic (cough) anyone know why they don't just swap out pictures?

I think the collectors edition will be in a big metal box so they can stuff all the stuff inside (how's that for a sentence). Anyways, I doubt that it will be cardboard.

what about, for a CE box . . .
a miniature crate, like the ones in HL. 1'x1'x1'
you could fit some cool crap in that :D

It's interesting how much they pimp the game's features: most PC titles are more conservative. I've also noticed that they are using the old pre-DX9 strider shot. At least it's small.

Can't we just keep it all in one thread? And it was known that that would be the boxart since the Belgians visited Valve...
Actually, we've known it since last year when Valve had the boxes on display at E3 2003. They said at the time that the box art was final.

Wildo says : I was mainly picking up boxes and cans and throwing
them around. Not only do you have to use the physic gun to lift up
stuff, but you can use your hands to pick up different things like
trash cans, luggage, cans, etc.

SO you can throw stuff with your hands also? O__O

as far as I know you can pick things up that are light enough with your hands yes.

DVD cases suck. Period.
The hybrids you get as I understand own. Second period.

What's there not to like about the small cardboard boxes? They're the same size as DVD cases, you can fold them open (if that isn't an instand boner, I don't know what is), you can easily store multiple cd's in it without having to do them in paper covers and they often come with a decent manual. DVD cases are ugly black pieces of plastic shit with a paper folded around them with a translucent piece of plastic. These cardboard cases are a lot prettier, my VC and Morrowind boxes even have relief writing on them! I mean, what's more sexah than letters with relief? There has been a lot more effort spend on designing these boxes.

Okay, they are on general a bit thicker (although my Soldiers: HoWWII DVD case is thicker than my RS or VC box) but they don't require more space, are a lot prettier, are just as strong as DVD cases, contain decent manuals (cause they have more space) and suck less with multiple cd's.

In short: ownage!

But anything is better than those big cardboard boxes with those jewel cases in them that have a big desire to always ****ing break!! :x

I wonder if you can now punch back with your hands. :)

Oops wrong thread... anyway Im getting the combine police box. :)

Well.. we still get CDs in jewel cases inside the boxes mostly.

Stepping back a bit, are you talking about the hybrid boxes where the cardboard part is basically a slip over the DVD case? Or..

Now I'm confused.. there are too many different types of boxes :(

Firstly, because you still have jewel cases: haha!

And here's a picture of the case I mean (which own, or did I already say that?)

Yeah, those cases are real cool, Max Payne 2 came ine one of those.

Wow. I can't say I've seen one of those, save DVD movies (ie. LotR special editions)..

Anyhow, I'll get a picture of what I was talking about in a minute.. and what "standard" game cases look like over here
