:O dunno.

i might get it, or just wait a few weeks for gta:sa and bf2.

I've got the game, and I would honestly give it a 7/10

Thumbs up- driveable vehicles, RPG stats system, large environment

Thumbs down- Buggy, lots of spoken dialogue missing, civilians will shoot you even if you accidentally ran 1 or 2 over

I just can't wait to play GTA: San Andreas

if it gets patched a few times, it'll be a great game. very buggy now (vehicles disappearing, clipping), AI issues (NPC's driving into walls, running pedestrians [and you!] over), gameplay balance issues (constant weapon jams, faction system bugs). some features seems to missing (how the hell do you maintain weapons?! and why's the speedometer stuck at 0?). It looks and feels like a beta, but there is a load of potential here. it plays well (for me at least; many people are having issues. apparently 2 GB of ram helps). the world is massive, there's alot to see and do outside of the main plot. nothing beats driving along, getting caught in a firefight between the government and the mafia, and either lending a hand or sneaking around looting the dead soldiers for weapons and supplies.

so, if you've got the cash, it's worth a shot. (if i had driver/performance issues like alot of people are having, though, i'd be irate and telling you it's a waste of time and money)

hehe some of the bugs reported in the comments to the article sound funny

"You got lucky if it only happened to you after leaving the
vehicles for long periods. I parked mine outside the gun
store and it was gone when I came back outside"

...well he did leave it in front of a gun store

heheh this comment was funny:

"Why do they see me in the dark? Or did they hear me? Was it
my flash-light?"

duh?

I'll probably wait for a few more reviews but it sounds like fun (even with bugs)

I'm waiting for patches in stead of reviews before getting it. It seems too buggy atm.

They are working on a patch , woot

"The game is out in Europe and soon will appear on the shelves of Russian & USA.
We are working on the patch right now and it will be available online really
soon
. All bugs met for now concerning problems of running the game are about
setting up drivers correctly.
The description of such problems and their solution will be published today on
www.deep-shadows.com in form of Troubleshooting FAQ"

hmm from past experiences I dont like to wait for patches ...although that does make sense ..I just got burned by battlefield vietnam ..I bought the game and it was mostly unplayable online and I decided I'd give it another vchance when the patch came out ...2 patches later the problem still hadnt been fixed so I gave up ..shortly after that a patch came out that fixed it (somewhat) but by then I had lost all interest

I done downloading it last night, no time to install it. exam week ;(

dont admit openly to ...errr "downloading" ..with a pc like yours you should be able to afford to buy multiple copies of the game ..and I think as punishment they should all go to the people here who dont have a copy ...starting with me :E

Put it like this: This is probably one of the most enjoyable piece of early-Beta code that I've ever played. You want to damn Atari for releasing it like this. However, you also want to hail them for spending money on something of Boiling Point's ambition rather than the safe option. After all, if this sells nothing, the lesson publishers will learn won't be "Don't release unfinished games" but "Don't invest in ambitious ones".

I guess this quote sums it up very well, judging by the comments I've read online. I enjoyed that review a lot btw. Eurogamer.net has some of the best reviewers I know, altho they tend to succumb to fanboy-ism.

this is why Stalker is also gonna suck

But STALKER has been in devlopment for a longer time, lets not jump the gun, plus their publisher is NOT Atari

Lemonking said:
a big part of the dev team is also making Stalker
Uh, NO?!
Sorry for saying this, but that's TOTALLY ****ING INCORRECT.
These guys are not the same dev team working on STALKER.
GSC Games and Deep Shadows are totally seperate groups, the only thing is that the guys at Deep Shadows used to work for GSC, they made some game for'em a long time ago, it was about aliens, damnit what was its name, and then they split into a new group, no persons working for Deep Shadows -also- works for GSC Games.:)
Next time you state things like these, please check up your info.:p

Ok guys, Deep Shadows is releasing a patch on the 27th(Tomorrow), adressing the most major issues, including cars dissappearing and the A.I. bugs, performance is also alot better, and as said, most reported bugs have been fixed, however, it seems they won't solve any of the balance issues in this patch(Such as weapons jamming too often and such), hopefully they will in the next.

Atari has released the US patch 1

Changes in this patch are as follows:
- Occasionally, the game would crash following the attempted load of a save game.
- Occasionally, an NPC would not appear visible though they could be selected an interacted with.
- With the watch out, if the user attempted to bring up the cell phone, the previous weapon would instead appear.
- Under certain conditions, the mission to get the young man accepted by Commandante Ricardo was completed prematurely.
- Occasionally, with 0% technical aptitude, the user's character would succeed at using level 4 weapon upgrades.
- The NPC Simon (in Pueblo Faro), needed for the completion of a mission, would run away and disappear if he was wounded and not killed.
- With the mission to kill the betrayer for Commandante Raul, if the enemies were killed and the user left the area and returned, the enemies would be respawned and could be killed again.
- During the game's final mission objective, if the user's character died in the process of completing the objective, the ending cutscene would play with no
graphics visible.
- The options to drive and access the trunk of Taxis were removed.
- The entrance to Don Pedro's villa located at the river was inaccessible due to the game positioning the character in the water when exiting a boat. A
ladder was added.
- Occasionally, during the course of gameplay, the character's car would disappear after leaving it somewhere and later returning.
- During the police mission to kill the gang leaders, if the user's character shot at one of the bandits from an elevated position, he would run through mid
air.
- The user's character was able to engage enemy civilian NPC's in conversation while they were still shooting at him.
- Occasionally, when answering the cell phone, the message would remain on the screen after the call was completed.
- There existed a location in Puerto Sombra where a car could get stuck.
- The police station in Puerto Sombra could be destroyed with a single crossbow bolt.
- The main menu behaved unpredictably if the user pressed escape while the menus were transitioning from one to another.
- Grenades thrown at cars would have no effect on their drivers.
- In the mission to destroy the government planes for Mr. Botanist, the user's character was not given enough missiles to destroy all the necessary planes.
- If the mission to persuade the suicide jumper to not jump was failed, the mission remained on the objectives list.
- In the government mission to destroy the mafia transport helicopters, if the user's character died in the helicopter, the mission could not be repeated.
- It was impossible to drop less than the entire quantity of any item that was stacked.
- Debug information appeared when holding the = key.

LOL

Look at this list.. "user's character was not given enough missiles". What the hell is playtesting for?

Secondly , the game is judged according to the state of the game when it was released.

Third , why didn't the just wait for 2 days and released the game already patched with this fixes?

What about games that don't deserve your cash? That doesn't make it right to d/l them :p
Or wait a sec, if I feel a car doesn't deserve my cash, does that make it right for me to steal it? Because, I saw this really sexy humvee, but I feel it doesn't deserve my cash, but it was really nice, seriously..:p
