It might be the fact that i like online games better, but I almost never seem to finish a singleplayer campaign. Recently I got as far as the third chapter in CoH4. I am sorta stuck at the firefight with the Russians in the gas station, and I can't really be bothered anymore. Last year I stopped playing HL2: Ep2 because I got fed with not being able to beat the Combine during the attack on the base sequence. And although it's undoubtably a great game, I totally lost interest in Bioshock after the 2nd or 3d level. Not because I was stuck or anything, but just from boredom. The list goes on and on ....

The games I did finish are few and far between. Notable ones, to me at least, are Portal, Max Payne I & II, and at least one Grand Campaign from each of the Total War games. With Portal, the story captivated me. I played it in one sitting, which is of course very doable with a game of this length. The Max Payne games, like Portal, have a good story that's told very well. And, again like Portal, the pacing is spot on. The levels always seemed to end after the right time. And the Total War series simply rocks for its gameplay. No story at all, but I always find myself roleplaying one, featuring benevolent tyrants mostly

So how about you guys; do you always finish a game?

Not always. Most is due to uneven difficulty in the game or just getting frustrated easily and never look back. That is also what worries me when I'm playing a game - what'll happen if I come across a segment that is just overly frustrating? I know I shouldn't think like that but sometimes it's just hard not to.

A smaller issue is boredom, sometimes I get so bored with a game that I just put it aside. I've tried completing Far Cry two times but a bit after half of the games' length I just get so incredible bored with the game.

Probably 'bout 8 out of 10 games gets a completion from me.

I'm having that problem more and more recently. I've completed Supreme Commander *Not the expansion...* and......that's it in the past couple years. I just watch other people beat games for me.

I've also had that problem, own a shitload of games i've never finished, to motivate myself I made a database where I keep track of every game I've ever played, if I've finished it, and how much I've finished it.

There's a bunch on Genesis that I didn't, too hard. I could probably now but problem is I don't have it anymore. Only game since then is Sonic the Hedgehog, played the first level, didn't touch it again. Hopefully they can revive without more gimmicks than needed. I beat 99% of games I play though.

I didn't get to finish Ocarina of Time or Wind Waker, which has disappointed me greatly

I've finished quite a few games I've played recently, actually, which kinda surprises me.

Completed:
Orange Box
Max Payne 1 and 2
Crysis (enjoyed it a lot! Which also surprised me:))
COD 4

I know thats not that many games to be fair, but I have also been really busy which Uni work since last september, so thats not a bad amount of games to fit in.

Also purchased Prey last week in the steam sale, admittedly, I found it a bit slow to start out, but I've stuck at it and I'm enjoying it more now. Though I can't play for a few more weeks due to the amount of work I have, but I will try and finish it.

Also going to start playing WoW in 2 weeks with some friends. No doubt I'll get to lvl 70 in that and do a lot of end-game/pvp. And GTA IV is out soon, I will most certainly be completing that by the sounds of the previews!

I do try to complete any game I get, but most games that dont get completed have just bore me.

I get bored when I'm not talking about it with other people while playing.

"HOLY SHIT DID YOU SEE THAT?" moments are lame by yourself.

I usually tell my stories to mates on xfire. All is not lost :p

The only game I never finished was Far Cry. Every other game I play through entirely at least five times, more if I really dig them.

I've gotten pretty good at finishing everything I buy nowadays... helps to be picky I guess. :p The only game in the past 6 months I didn't finish was Hellgate: London, but I rectified that last night! Finally beat it!

Also going to start playing WoW in 2 weeks with some friends. No doubt I'll get to lvl 70 in that and do a lot of end-game/pvp.
Queue my social obligation to strongly encourage you against this. Reconsider! For the love of god, reconsider!

No matter how bad a game i almost always finish it. Its like an obsession. There are a few that i just cant tho, the really bad.

I fail to finish alot of games because I'm a lazy completionist. I want to get everything but don't want to put in the time. :)

I do get bored of games mid-way very often, but I basically force myself to complete them. Usually it's worth it.

In backwards-chronological order I have recently completed:

Bioshock (wasn't too interested at first but it really picked up)
Crysis (same as above)
Deus Ex Invisible War (snore fest)
Orange box games (short, but sweet)
Stalker (got discouraged after a patch made my savegames invalid, but I started over and finished it)
List goes on...

Currently going through Gears of War PC (beh), then on to CoD4...

Funny how the only thing I've paid for is the Orange box :\

I tend to finish games. The main reason I won't finish one is if I stop playing for some reason and just don't come back to it.

I can't think of a PC game that I havn't finished since the mid 90's (regarding those which have a designated end in sight) but there were many 8-32bit console games I never saw the end of.

Bah, my memory fails me a bit, but recently...oh wait, i'm still trudging about in Oblivion! but thats all that i have not finished recently, off the top of my head...

Games that I've purchased for the PC must be close to a 100% win ratio & my PC games date back to Simon the Sorcerer!

EDIT: & yeah if its not fun or does'nt look like it will be I just don't buy it, which I think is the biggest contributing factor to my good record of completing PC games

I almost all the time finish my games but then there are those games where you just cannot be f*cked and you know how it'll end.

Usually this, but sometimes it's not. A few games in particular have actually made me REGRET finishing them. Namely (in recent memory) Assassin's Creed and Saint's Row. Good fun up until the final moments then WTF TACKED ON SHITTY ENDING. Crap like that not only makes me never want to play the game again, but immediately un-hypes me for the potential (read: inevitable) sequel.

I somewhat have this problem too but for different reasons.

I'm usually way too busy doing other stuff to even have time to get into singleplayer games(work & school), so I usually go weeks without finishing it and then it's like, **** what the hell I am I going into this building for again?

The last batch of games that I completed were Episode 2(had winter vacation and a lot of snow, so I had no work or school), Knights of the Old Republic(beat that like a year and a half ago now), and KotOR2 last year.

Which is why I love multiplayer so much, no story or anything to get into... just jump in and play.
I've got spring break coming up so I'll probably finish Call of Duty 4 then.

Haha, I live with my friends... it's not like I'm not going to see them anymore. besides I started WoW for the first time in Jan, got to lvl 34 and quit because of uni work. I wont let it take over my life, and it is a very fun game with friends.

Ignore him! You want WoW!

I do, I dooo! :D

I said I never would get into it, but my friends made me, and I'm glad they did. Got a LOT to play through, completing the original, then Burning Crusade. Wrath of the Lich King may even be out by then too :D

Hehe yeah you never finish an SP game Shaker, then you moan about having nothing to play, then when you do get a new SP game you get fed up and play TF2 :p

9 times out of 10 I finish my games (excluding all unlockables, 100% etc.)

Although I haven't yet finished (off the top of my head) any of my wii games or resistance as I found them all boring or stodgy but usually i'll finish games even if they are bad.

I just finished the main Oblivion storyline quests for the first time yesterday. My original saved games were from 2006.

It's not because I get bored, it's just because my focus changes onto other things really quickly. I have to be in the right mood to play sometimes. Or maybe I just have undiagnosed ADHD.

I play until I stop, usually at good points in games.
Me personally, I don't play games since I cannot be f*cked to load them up.

I want to finish Morrowind, Galaxy, Psychonauts, Crysis, Myst III, Rachet and Clank 3; but I just can't get myself to play them :(

They are all very good games.

Am I growing up D:?

I have so little time to play through games that I often buy a game before finishing the last game ..I put it aside for later but never seem to finish it ..there's a long list of games I haent finished ..GTA: SA and the Witcher are the ones I regret not finishing

I'd wait till the Developers release the expanded edition (and free upgrade) before you get back into The Witcher Stern, it should be out end of Mayish. It's worth finishing though because it sets the bar for other RPGs to reach in terms of storyline and action/consequence.

I'm terrible at finishing games but that's generally because I'm more interested in the tech than the games themselves, and get bored about 60% of the way through. However I do keep my saves so I can address them down the road. With all the talk of GTA I've recently started playing through GTA 3 from where I left off (3 years ago. ). I'm time tabling myself to beat that and vice city (also unfinished) before Mass Effect hits the shelves. :dozey:

but but ..age of conan is released on May 20th ...you see my my dilemma

GTA1, GTA2, GTA3, GTA:VC.

I'm currently playing COD2 and GTA:VCS

lol, you nailed it.

What Lucid said, is true for me as well:

AoC much like WoW or SWG is just a virtual Disneyland, but one where you need to be yay high a level to enter the rides, but afterwards they reset themselves for the other people queuing up. Persistence is nothing without consequence. I'll look at AoC down the line from a tech viewpoint, but I think it's going to be a good few years before a MORPG comes along that captures my imagination fully. I haven't found one yet that delivers decent and compelling storyline.
