So after finally getting broadband, I decided to try the the demo.
350 megs later, I found out that I d-loaded a patch...so 540 megs later, I finally had the demo.

I was preety desapointed, from what I once heard, gamers really acted like a squad, foloowing orders, doing what they are supose to do etc etc. But in the demo, nobody cared, it was just another shooter. I

n the retail version, do you actyually see squads following orders and acting together ? Does it become tactical ? I'm really interest to buy it if player do actually follow orders and act as a team.

Also, I find quite bothering, that whenever somobody spots an enemy, it says it automatiqly, spaming the damn game, with "enmmy spoted" Helicopter Spoted, Sniper spoted etc etc.

Not unless you're playing with friends.

That's why it's best to go solo in a vehicle. Teamwork happens sporadically in public servers, and when it does happen, it's all that sweeter.

Edit - Actually, if you're a squad leader on the ground, your squad will most always spawn on you depending on your location (behind enemy lines is prefferable).

Friends make the game much more fun. Most people just like to solo it...but when squads work together..it's magic.

That's the only reason I don't play anymore.

It's filled with dumbshits. I found that even playing with Cyberpitz became an antifun experience, no offense pitz.

It's just that, people claim that it's so much fun when you play with friends, but you won't know the difference between clanmates and pubshits when some dumbass blindsides you at 50 mph in a humvee.

^^ Don't listen to him, he's just trying to keep the game to himself :p

On a more serious note, personally I enjoy the game and think it's worth it when you manage to play with other HL2.netters. Well it doesn't have to be purely HL2.n guys, there are times where you might strike it lucky and find a few cooperative pubby guys (usually really late at night). Just finding another helpful teammate makes all the difference, the game becomes a lot more fun. I wouldn't judge the game until you've had at least a chance to play with us, but without retail version that's hard to do :|

edit: Yes there are asshats, but then again every game has them so it's something you just learn to forget or you take retaliation against them. It's worth the negative points (not that I care) so it can turn into a satisfying moment, at least for me. Oh and the people don't automatically say "enemy spotted or tank spotted" by just looking at them, they have to hold down Q then left click. It may seem like spam but it also puts that tank onto the mini-map which your entire team can see for few seconds, useful for any AT's / Heli's / Jet's that happen to be around.

Personally, the only reason I don't like this game is due to the lackluster effort put forth in the patches. They really haven't done enough good to really wort it. Seems to me like they are deliberately ruining the game for people so they might upgrade the game so it will actually work right. Though that's not the case, I found a chuckle out of saying it.

i wouldnt imagine anyone would play the demo now except for the laugh so consider it merely an introduction to the weapons and vehicles etc.

Don't be fooled by the demo. It's mainly just other people trying out the game like you to see if they like it. There are some people who play nothing but the demo, but they're ghey. I didn't think it was that great but then got the retail and was blown away.

Don’t people still play the Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer demo online?

omg, thats the exact same thing I was thinking! Some people never got the game but just played the Beach Demo. I was reading a forum wherre there was a guy who played just the Beach Demo for 4 years. Thats it. They flamed the hell out of him for not buying it and supporting the game.

....buhahahahahahaha......hahahahahahaha....who told you that fat wad of lies?

All I can really say here is exactly what others have said. Yes, it sucks when you don't know anybody. But when you're playing with friends (even one or two) it's a whole different game. Squad-based combat on a whole different level of awesome. So basically, if you have BF2, you have to have XFire as well.

Exactly. Once we all get together the game is amazing. Go out, buy it, then join us for a game.

Tbh I see this on a regular basis on pubs and its easy enough to take the iniative and start talking on VoIP
I reckon most gamers do want the squad element so they are only to happy to realise that someone else wants the same

i wouldn't recommend this game.
then again...i didn't purchase it, my brother did and neither of us play anymore because pub gameplay is un-enjoyable.

Agreed.

From a game I just came out of:

Commander: Why in gods name are you guys mutinizing?

Teammate: Your the worst commander in history. Pls retiree now.

Commander: What are you talking about?

Teammate: u suck at commanding. Duh.

Commander: You guys aren't even in squads, what is there to command?!?!?!?

Play with us HL2.netter's

D:

most of the HL2.netter's are from the UK it seems and i ping badly on UK servers.
and those from the US seem to be on the west coast. :|

True, most HL2.netters are from UK but I'm willing to make concensions to play with them. Playing at ~110 ping on 256's server isn't bad at all, I barely notice any difference from 60.

The East / West coast difference is very minor, if the server's located anywhere in North America I'll join in a heartbeat.

Off my XFire list, the NA HL2.netter's I have are...

Qonfused, Cyberpitz, Fliko, Morneheru, Nightshade, SixThree, Jackson, Rando, Amish, Kamikaze, Xombine, Kaf, Viper, Canadian Gunner, bryanf, and a few others (sorry if I didn't mention you, I named most off the top of my head). So there really isn't that big of a shortage in HL2.netter's to play with :D

What's your XFire Freeman? Oh and don't forget me too in the list! ;)

Yeah, unless you have a co-ordinated squad and a team which actually does stuff youre not going to find BF2 much fun.

As I've said before:

BF2 without a working squad: 6/10.
BF2 with a working squad: 9.8/10.

It's really, really enjoyable with a bunch of guys you know and completely sweep the map.

Also:

Carpet bombing teammates in the MEC jet: 10/10.

I'm up for some BF2 right now, tbh.

TBH i'm not quite sure i understand the complaints about bf2
we all know that when the squad system in BF2 comes together it is unparalleled beauty
but even when it doesnt and you find yourself as a lone wolf or in a casual squad - you are still playing a game which has far superior gameplay to just about any other fps ever and is still more fun than almost any game you can think of
the stunts, the wtf moments, the insane knife squads, the kamikazies, the hilarity of it all makes the game so special - not to mention that the gameplay is fookin' tight
how can you even look at counterstrike after playing bf2 is beyond me

Going on a random Karkand Only Server, joining a squad for the initial aim to get behind enemy lines is awesome. When one starts speaking, you talk, another talks, and someone types 'Got no mic, can i stay with u guys?' makes it brilliant. Running rounf as a squad working properly with Commanders' orders, and eveyone doing their job in the squad...ah bliss

Find a decent clan run server, get in a squad with a clanny, and can be even better.... ahem, -=256=- ftw! :D

it really all depends on what servers you go on

I've had a bunch where no one's acting as a team, but some others where people are all in a squad giving and recieving orders. The latter scenerio is of course the real fun one.
