First attempt at head

To bo honest its not a very good head, but if its your first its not very bad either, I've done worse :p

I'm not a modeller, so I cant describe it. But for starters the shape of the head seems wrong, that's very important for first glance impression. It seems to long. But its hard to see, a 4 view picture would have been better :)

Edit: It needs roundness, the height appears to be an accurate recreation of the picture.

Tbh, its horrible.

The jaw and moth are way to big, eyes are buggered, it just seems out of proportion.

ye the preportions are totttaaalllyyyyy wrong but i think thats because of your refrence image. You can tell straight away u are box modelling. Also u can tell that are box modelling from a box with about 15 segments. You need to start of with about 2x3 also only make 1/2 the model. Get the basic shape (it will look terrible) then start to add detail from there. Remember to keep your lines along main parts of the head. I can;t really say much more to help u apart from with box modelling its just experiance and also try spline modelling faces. Its so much better. As I say to everyone who has just started modelling. If u are using 3dsmax use the www.3dbuzz.com video tutorials. To access them u need to sign up then login. After that go to the downloads section. Agree to the terms and download away. You proberly dunno about them. But my god u will learn more about 3dsmax in about 1 day than u can from about 2 mounths. Some of the VTM's are very tedious and get boring. But stick with it and watch them all and u will definatly be ready for hl2 modelling for mods. I got them all done in about 1 week. I think. Anyway enough chat. Try them out.

ok first of all, i think it looks good..a lot of emotions.

now, if youre trying to make a head to go into a game or something, i would suggest taking a reference picture that is more normal. but if youre just making it for artistic purpose, its quite cool.

oh and btw, i dont see how you can call it out of proportion, when he used such a refference pucture...if you were with your head like that, it would indeed look like that...uhm yeah...

and Ich, I'm prety new at modelling, but aint it spline?

the 2 kind of lines that are drawn from the lips to the nose have a real big distance between them.
put on meshsmooth with one iteration.

 ;(
/me goes puke all over himself :)

IchI: the head was done using plane modelling (like I said at the beginning of the thread) so I don't know where you're getting the idea I was box modelling.

The purpose of the head was to go on the bottom part/hilt of a mace for a mod I'm working on - it wasn't meant to be a character model.

Thanks for the criticism, I'll see what I can do.

And BTW 6iXx and azz0r: what the hell did you think the thread was going to be about when it's in the modelling section?!?!? Pfft.

I got a warning for making a joke about the thread title...

On topic, so that I don't get a warning for spam: I don't like it, infact it's very bad :/

Ye the proportions are really off (compared to a normal human head). but by looking at the mesh i'd say it'd be an easy job to fix. its allrite, first attempts are usually something you cant even identify as a face of any kind,
