Up to 72 people are still missing in Queensland after flash flooding hit the city of Toowoomba on Monday, killing eight people.

Australian police confirmed the toll after a 26ft wall of water - described as an "instant inland tsunami" - inundated the city late on Monday.

The waters swept away cars, houses and pedestrians, killing at least two children and leaving many residents stranded on rooftops for hours.

Unconfirmed reports claim that 50 of the reported missing have been found alive, but 22 people are still unaccounted for.

So for the last week or so areas around Queensland have been flooded - a couple of towns are already under with people dead and missing. Brisbane is now starting to feel the rise in water, with a lot of people fleeing the city.

Hopefully Naph has done the same? idk.

Either way there may be a chance I'll have to evacuate too if it keeps raining like this - just in case I stop posting for a while. :3

Be safe any of you hl2.netters in the area.

People are starting to flee Brisbane? With 2 million people? wow that's crazy.

"The city has suffered two major floods since colonisation, in 1893 and 1974."

Well I guess this is going to be the third?

I wonder if the army barracks I grew up in Toowoomba are still okay, I always wanted to check that place out again when I'm some old washed up rock star in a comedy movie.

This was also the day I was going to start recording my EP! ****ing floods.

Naph shouldn't have to evacuate.

West End just got flooded to shit, I'm sitting pretty on a hill in the south suburbs. Few of my friends are in the disaster areas :/

Transport into the CBD just got cancelled... Was going to a gig but I think the venue is about to get flooded.

Where do you live Danimal?

Lower end of the Coast - Robina - I'm not worried about myself, really, it's just everyone keeps saying it'll rain for the rest of the week, and apparently the water from Toowoomba hasn't completely leaked into the Brisbane River.

My brother is watching the river slowly rise now. :/

Yeah, king tide is due to hit in the next hour or so. It's only expected to get worse in the next couple of days. All the piers/riverside cafes are taking in water in the city apparently.

Thoughts go out to those affected in the countryside :(

I remember when southern Louisiana evacuated for hurricane Gustav. Shits scary and unsafe. Take extra care of yourself and your family Danimal if you do have to evacuate, people can get viscous, and some use the opportunity to mug people with near immunity.

River has completely broken its banks, most stores in the city are expected to get flooded in the next few hours.

****, my mum's boyfriend was going through the city to the airport.

People trying to mug people is nothing new, we're a country spawned from convicts, remember? I have my ways and methods.

Save your worry for people in Brisbane.

What part of Australia is Sloth in?

My safety precautions is a pile of bricks and a tarp.

If anything, I'd just have to remove all the chemicles from our garage. If that stuff flooded into our yard, dear god.

Can't let your precious meth lab go to waste.

It's times like these you have to remember to plan where to live carefully - economically, socially, and ****ing climatologicaly.

That's crazy!

Stay safe you guys down under.

Watching the news right now is just depressing; 10 confirmed dead, 5 of them children and 78 currently missing.

Hope all you guys up North are alright...

I saw an article about one of the towns there, they said something like 7 Olympic pools worth of water went past per second, it's crazy.

I come bearing photos of some neighbourhoods as well as the university I attend.

Dear God. You have to conduct class underwater. ****ing Atlantis returns.

God no! Not Noodle Box!

Hah, I've had a few others say that too.

I'd like to point out that most of the stuff in these photos are now covered by an extra 2 meters of water. It's fairly intense. The photo of the destroyed jetty at the end were taken on a small inlet of land on the riverside. I crossed a meter wide creek to get to it, it was so eerily peaceful... just the river gushing and the creaking of the jetty. 15 minutes later when I crossed back the creek had turned into a three meter wide torrenting stream that came up to my shins. The water was rising ridiculously fast.

Those are some awesome yet disturbing photos Zephos, stay safe.

Holy shit. Reminds me of the flooding we get in parts of the US when the really nasty hurricanes hit. Stay safe guys.

Water is very slowly beginning to recede. I signed up to volunteer in the cleanup, but even the half a metre that receded today revealed a mammoth amount of shit. Worse still, almost all the sewerage plants in the city have burst and the water is toxic. It's going to be grueling.

Been watching this while on holidays, scary stuff. I wish Brisbane all the best for the long road ahead. I donated $20 to the appeal, I hope it helps, even minimally.

It's apparently starting the recede. It didn't reach my area, though a few people and business associates I indirectly knew didn't make it out of the flood alive, including most of their families.

There's also this constant story being told about a 13 year old boy who sacrificed himself to save his 10 year old brother, amongst the base-level propaganda--

QUEENSLANDERS, STANDING STRONG
Pay your taxes.
