Last week in Florida kindergarden teachers called the police on an "uncontrolable" little girl
The police came a put the girl in handcofs
Family of this little girl is outraged and is sueing the kindergarden

how you do feel about this?

in my opinoin, the kindergarden teachers were not professional about that insident
i'm studying child phychology right now, and there a multipal ways of changing the behavior of a child
those theachers were simply not trained well

Shouldn't be working in a Kindergarden then.

People who look after your kids are supposed to be able to handle them, whatever mischief they get up to.

The police are just as bad, shouldn't they have told the staff to get stuffed?

The little girl is lucky it wasn't me, i would of beaten her with my baton before squarting her with cs spray. It is the parents own stupid fault for not disciplining their child anyway, they only have themselves to blame.

that kid will be forever affected by a handful of idiot teachers and gung-ho cops ...did they need to handcuff her?

If I can handle a 230 pound special needs student bent on re-arranging my face without having to resort to calling the cops I dont see how they couldnt restrain a 5 year old ...or better still re-direct her using behavioural management techniques

it has nothing to do with the parents ...kids are kids ..they'll refuse to do things no matter how well behaved they usually are ...it's all about power struggle ...you dont feed the power struggle by confronting the person, you re-direct them into seeing that they are disrupting the class ...trust me it works 99% of the time

there are so many wrongs about this post

you don't know how girl's parents are, i'm not denying that the parents maybe the part of the problem, but from the professional point of view, those kindergarden teachers are totaly wrong, and the police should have never came

I sure hope that's a joke.

too bad that they are sueing the police, they should sue the kindergarden

this kid I used to watch, while throwing a fit in his pre-school classroom,

scared the teacher and all the students by growling like an animal, throwing chairs and pushing desks at anyone who came near..

growling and screaming for almost an hour before I was able to get there..all because the teacher wouldn't listen to him explain why he got up from "nap-time"

he had to pee!

believe me there were lots of times I wished for hand-cuffs or for California to not be so anal about spanking kids when I was watching him..

the majority of children have NO COMMON SENSE (duh) and reasoning doesn't work with them (usually) until they are older..

do any of you have children? that might explain this lack of understanding..even good kids need a smack every now and again

kids are in their own world most of the time and sometimes you need to clap/snap your fingers/yell/smack the kids ass/whatever you have to do before they snap out of the trance

sometimes I have had to do all of that before this kid would stop throwing rocks at cars,people,pets...

just my opinion as a parent of 2 and babysitter of 1 demonspawn..

BTW,pre-school is before kindergarten for those who might not know that

You're right, the police should never have come. But the sad fact is, we have to come when when we are called, and we get called for ignorance like this all the time. Often the parents ask us, "Can't you put little Johnny in handcuffs, just to scare him?" This is usually after we tell them that we can't haul their kid off to jail for disobeying. Got a problem and don't know how to handle it? Call the police! Neighbor's tree dropping leaves on your lawn? Call the police! Feeling lonely and need someone to talk to? Call the police! Girlfriend's husband threatening you? Call the police!

I don't know what was going on in this particular instance, and video doesn't tell the whole story, contrary to popular belief. I can say that placing handcuffs on a 5 year old is not nearly as egregious as some people seem to be making out.

yes I have a son and I was a teacher of mentally handicapped kids for 7 years. Not once have I had to resort to violence ...you think reasoning with a 2 year old is hard try reasoning with a teenager with an IQ of just over 70. There are no circumstance, no instances where a spanking is needed ...spanking only satisfies the parents need to vent out their frustration, it teaches the kid nothing ...besides to fear whomever is doing the spanking

It's funny how people who are studying how to be something always seem to know more than the people in the trenches.

spanking is considered a punishment, and it's been long proven that punishment is far less effective in shaping kid's behaviors compaired to other methods such as :positive or negative reinforcment, or instincion

i have a child and i've worked with kids before, at young age, they havn't developed resoning as we (adults) know it, as you say kids are in their own reality and sometimes you need to snap them out of it, you are right, but you don't need to even smack them, all you need is a glass of cold water on their face - they go into a slight shock, and that's when you use technics i described above

Yes i was joking with my post...

But i do believe that if parents knew how to control and discipline their children, then things like this won't happen. Maybe parents should go to parenting classes when they find out their pregnant, learning how to look after and control their children and learning from people like that woman who stars in "The Nanny" tv show.

yes ...I agree ...and if you watch that show at no time do they ever recommend corporal punishment

I was spanked by my parents, and I was paddled in school on occasion. Definitely modified my behavior. Every once in awhile, my 10 year old son needs a swat on the butt. He is on the high honor roll at his school and is one of the most well behaved kids in his class. I don't suffer any trauma from the spankings I received, and my son seems to be doing all right.

Yeah, but I also heard it was a bogus call. Wouldn't surprise me if it was real though.

well ...we'll leave that open to interpretation :)

I too was hit but that's because the majority of parents dont know what else to do ...behavioural modification is a lot more difficult to follow through with than corporal punishment ...I personally will never, under any circumstance ever hit my kids

oh no, it's real, it was on National Public Radio the other week
see shit like that puts a stupid face on the whole america

yeah "supernanny", she only uses consistency with positive or negative reinforcment or instincion

throw cold water in the kids face..thats just rude and will harm little timmy's self esteem...;)

now I have noticed something in my 30 years, we had some amount of respect for people and things when parents could resort to smacking the shit out of their kids..

now kids think its cool to disobey and what are you going to do about it? talk to them? HA!! thats what the kid will say..some parents are beaten and/or shot by older kids for trying to TALK to them

maybe if the kid was afraid of making you mad...you know actually being punished for some wrong doing...

most kids could care less anymore.."what are you going to do?" you can't do anything without being the "badguy"..

they have no FEAR of the consequences, because there aren't any(to them)

spanking is NOT abuse..punching,kicking...burning cigarette kinds of crap..yeah thats abuse and I am not condoning ABUSE..

I know what I see and what I have tried..what (IMO) works fastest and longest at getting kids to straighten up? spankage or at least the threat of spankage

but hey everyone is different and if you don't tell me how to raise my kids..I won't tell you how to raise yours!!

So where is the full story? Was she attacking other people? Did she have a weapon? If not then it is unreasonable.

as i said, it's been proven though research that punishment as the form of developing child's behavior, is not very useful (only useful for short term, but not long term)
seriosly, watch that show "Super Nanny" she fixes every family without ever touching a child

what you have to understand is that kids are not fully adults in the way that they don't know right from wrong, and it's our (adult) responsobility to teach them
adults shoudl use their intelectual power, not physical

no weapon, she was just acting up

there are better ways to handle such a situation, fortunatly the girl was black, so we won't need to worry about the president or congress being outraged and changing laws for her.

goverment fixing peoples problems one person at a time

I've got a story for you. I personally don't remember this, but it sounds like something I would do. Whenever me and my dad go out, he usually busts my balls about something. Sometimes this:

I come home from school, I was like in 3rd grade or something.
I tell my dad.
"Hey, dad, I learnt at school that you can't hit me and if you do I can call the police."

He says
"Oh, thanks, could you get me the phone?"

I retrieve the phone.
*SMACK*

He says
"Would you like to call the police or should I?"

The morale is the story is discipline the child when he/she is young. Doesn't always have to be physical, but it is needed sometimes. I'm glad my father kept my ass in line for the most part. He would of did it more when I was in middle school (when I was a really a-hole), but he was having problems with his diabetes.

Dumb Lady: "Arent you supposed to protect me?"
911 Operator: "What are we protecting you from?"

Some people are just dipshits. Hahaha, good find. :)

In Russia, Burger King dictates you!

(What was that woman on about? I swear, if I was the 911 lady, I'd have her arrested for wasting police time)

yeah I saw this on the news, wow I'd kill the kindergarten teachers.
She's 5...what a joke, another classic case of the amazing police for america has.

at least in Russia, they don't make stupid phonecalls

My parents are pertty much hippies when it comes to physically punishing me, I have never had one finger layed on me by my parents, ever. In fact, I've never been grounded before (okay maybe once, but that was for an hour). I am a firm atheist, gone to church maybe three times in my life, and yet you know what I still manage to get 4.0 grades and haven't had a detention in 7 years. It's amazing how these things work out isn't it.

Teach the little shit some manners. She wont be throwing any tantrums for awhile, and I'm glad of it. I'm sick of this whole liberal establishment bullshit where people have to be pumped full of drugs and "fixed" with counciling or some shit.
