Someone (more competent than I) Should create a team based football mod. It could be similar to the one in TFC but using gravity guns instead.
 
Association Football or American Football?
 
Like American Football.

On Steampowered, someone was talking about (I had the same idea) a futuristic 'sports' game-- like "Rollerball" or something. Crazy, decadently violent, goal-scoring, futuristic 'Football'.

Sounds like a UT2k4 gameplay mode.

Forget the name of it now -_-
 
you can make it so that u know when u zap objects with the primary fire u could have that but its a much longer zap only it grabs the ball an then u can shoot it to ur team mates n they grab it or the other team mite grab it. and this could all be done on horse back in an ice rink.

No, that's a mod.
Just went to the UT2k4 site to figure it out:
Bombing Run
Each level has one ball in the middle of the play field. The objective is to pick up the ball, deliver it to the enemy base and fire it through their goal. You must also defend your own goal to prevent the enemy from scoring. The ball is dropped when a player is killed and can then be picked up by anyone on either team.

That would really not be a hard mod to put together... Hell, everything you need is already in the game.
 
The best football mod ever was for Tribes Football, but it was more like rugby. The Grav gun would be perfect for this rugby/football mod. Each team would have an inzone, and spawn there at the begginning of each round. A ball would drop on the winning teams side, one person would pick it up, which then lit him up and showed a flag over his head. In this mod for tribes, you could use the "skiing" physics to run, and they created two ways to make the ball carrier drop the ball; by getting close enough and left-clicking, which made them drop the ball, or by using your energy to jump high enough to connect your feet to thier head, and "tackle" them, making the ball carrier fall down and drop the ball.

The object is to run w/ the ball into the nme's inzone to score. It is sooo much fun, I played it all the time, and this game would rock for it. The other way to get the ball is to "intercept" it when the ball carrier attempts to pass it, by jumping in front of the pass, which causes the ball to fall in the interceptors general direction, or if he actually connects w/ the ball thus catching it (hard to do, but I've done it :) ). There were a ton of different fields to play on, such as the hoops/football mod which made the inzone large "hoops" that hovered in the air on each end of the field. You then had to hit a jump-pad which launches you in the air, and you have to glide into the hoop to score w/ the ball.

They should do that. The guy who wrote the original Tribes 1 football mod should do it.

How about a CTF footballish (kinda) mod? I know ya'll probably have no idea wtf I'm talking about, so I'll explain:
Two bases, two teams, two flags etc. Your Basic CTF. Except, you can only grab the flag with the gravity gun. The catch is, you can also launch the flag with the gravity gun. What this creates is a frantic game of passing, catching, and shooting- as the quickest way to get your flag back to base would be to pass from player to player (hopefully without it getting intercepted) untill you get it to your capture point. I know it's sounds more CTFish than footballish, since it's basically just CTF with gravity gun.
Sound good?
 
I was thinking about this too. You can have people run routes and the other team defending. Like football games, if you just tap your left mouse button, it'll launch a lob pass, but if you hold it down, the "arm" will rifle a pass to where you aimed it. I think it's very feasable.
 
or you could just buy madden if you want routes and stuff.... you need to add the guns into this some how...
 
Im already working on this mod

me and at least 4 other guys are going to start over winter break

itll be called Manipulator Ball or something of that nature.

I'm at work so I can post a screenie, but when ur with DOG, there is a basketball ring that u can try shoot the ball into, i never did manage to get it in but u can use something similar (bigger perhaps?) to use as the goals.... also, while talking about this, did anyone actually manage to 'score' by shooting a hoop? if so, did that O (0 perhaps?) above the ring change to a 1 (or 2 or 3(pointer))?

I think guns would be vital for tackeling. Or maybe you could "toilet" (seems to be the popular verb) people with the gravgun to retrieve the ball.

And yeah I was thinking along the same lines a UT bombing run, but I'm sure half life did it first in the team fortress mod.
 
I know... That's insane. Three years old... People are so idiotic.
 
By the way Vegeta, I watched that Isotown thing... It's incredible. Very well done.
 
The next version of hl2:ctf is gonna have a football mode. And the current version has a few football style maps that are being played now. Very fun.
 
oh my god, this mod sounds awesome!!! I cant wait for it to be released!
