Hey!! I dont think it took them 5 years to make that game for no reason! And dont say there are better games than HL2 cuz there aint any. HL2 is suppost to be one of the greatest games ever like Doom, HL1, and so on. A revolution in gaming. HL2's engine does more than 1000 games combined and you can already tell from screen shots and by those **bleep**gots who have the beta that it's not just going to be awesome when it comes to graphics but also when it comes to story, suspense, fear, and more... So dont tell me you've seen a better game.

psht, until I've played HL2. Super Mario world is better :-P.

Damn fanboys!

EDIT: i removed everything i said becuase this smiley sums it up nicely.

up until i touch hl2, gods and generals is still the only revolutionary game in the past five years :dozey:

The total war series is the most revolutionary game(s) in the past 5 years.

Half life was merely a very polished revision on countless other FPS.

still minted though!

Erm, HL was revolutionary actually. In numerous ways.

Not just technology. But I will let other people blab on about that.

I am not saying HL is the be all and end all of games. But you can't say it wasnt revolutionary for its time.

I remeber when HL came out I was like WTF, why is everyone so hyped up about this game, so i tryed it and i was like WTF how did i not know bout this game?

I think its pretty obvious that the stolen code is pre beta.. and the E3 video's where probably the real beta . God knows how brilliant its gonna be if E3 was beta stuff!, with the knowledge of it not being 'polished' off yet. Im even more exited. ;)

That's the way I look at it clarky, the way Valve work, they would never show the best parts of the game in the teaser trailers, so if the trailers make me jump up and down and drool....

The game is going to make my head blow off...

(urmm hopefully it's not that good...)

cross your fingures,, I think its going to be something extremely special Crusader:). ...(stolen code delay's? never made sense anyway, they would of had several backups of backups of the code programming. )

it just polished the quake engine and scripted the hell out of single player.

hardly revolutionary compared to other games that have actualy done original concepts.

huh? are you saying that HL wasnt origional??? im confused and shocked

Hl picked up all the best parts of FPSs and joined them all, improving most of them even.

How can you say HL2 is going to be a great game? I am big fan of HL but you cant claim something that does not exist yet. I remember Daikantana was supposed to be one of the biggest games ever, and look how that turned out. I know Valve has a track record (1 game), but that doesn't gaurantee a great game.

I think HL was only revolutionary in 2 areas, AI and immersion. Everything else, level design, enemies, weapons, etc. was either adequate or evolutionary. But those two things made for one awesome game.

HL was totally different from other games in the way it was played. The graphics weren't that revolutionary, but the game itself was.

You're getting too stuck in technical innovation to see the real and very important paradigms that HL challenged and set.

I agree. And, I honestly thought H-L level design was brilliant. Its the only game that I cant beat over, and over....even 5 years later I play the SP portion. I think it was definatley revolutionary.

but also when it comes to story, suspense, fear, and more...

Screenshots cannot relay this.

And anyway, I very much doubt Half Life 2 will be able to touch Deus Ex (the original) on story etc.

Yes... SURELY they can't beat throwing together conspiracy theories...

back to the future

I dug out my atari 2600 the other day just to see what it was like when i was growing up...I almost puked....Games are always going to get better as long as we have an imagination...people look down on us cause we are trying to escape...I say we just want to forget the crap life is feeding us by killing everything that moves..digitally of course...my dad loves to chop wood...that is what he grew up on ...choping wood is a reward for him..he;s contributing to the well being of the tribe...me I get off on killing things that only exist in someone elses imagination so to say Half life 2 is the best game ever made....just wait till next year....i've been promised virtual reality so much i cant even remember if i'm already in it or if i'm just crazy....but in the end who cares

I'm not lost in technical innovation. In fact the graphics engine that HL uses is more than enough for what it is trying to accomplish.

I just didn't really care for the level design in HL. I think there was too much of the cliched blocked passage, find another way around for my taste.

Though, I changed my mind about the enemies for one reason, the Barnacles. The barnacles alone make enemies revolutionary in HL.

Don't get me wrong, I still think HL is a revolutionary game. I just think that people have to realize that great games can only revolutionize one or two aspects of a game. To have a completely revolutionary game is almost impossible.

Half life set a lot of benchmarks for the industry upon it's release because of it's high standard, and in that way it revolutionized gaming. Naturally since then every developer has aimed to create a better product, subsequently the number of innovations that can be brought to bear are much less. I think it is unlikely that any game will ever have as radical an impact as the original, but I certainly think that HL² will bring a lot of innovations with it, that will push other developers. Ultimately it is a win win situation for us, the playerbase, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Doom³ gets my vote

3D Engine definitely, but ID make an actual game? I think I broke a rib laughing there.

Argh....

Someone said Valve has made one good game HL....

Erm, have you seen how many different people they have on their team now. All with experience in different games asociated with HL.

If the valve team can't make a good game, I honestly don't know who could.

True. HL1 wasn't revolutionary in any technological aspect, but the way how the game elements (sfx, gfx, ai,...) are connected together was something very new and many developers nowadays still don't get it. They just innovate and implement new technologies in their games because they are soooo cool. VALVe makes new tech to have a tremendous impact on the gameplay and consequentially the player. Let me quote Gabe: "C'mon, people, you can't show the player a really big bomb and not let them blow it up." That is the magic spell of VALVe's success. Get it?

Ahhahahaha! Yah? So you dont think that (this is in one of the screens) if you saw a huge tenticle come out of a hole in the ground and strike through a person, smacked the person on the pavement and killed him in the process, then eat him in darkness with the best graphics ever for a game and while playing late at night you wouldnt be scared?

I think Duex Ex sucked, i couldnt even get thru the first level thing... i kept getting shot by fagget guards.

Stop double posting! Post all your feedback in one post!

And the reason you keep getting shot by the "fagger" guards is because you have no strategy.

Deus Ex doesn't suck, but I think it should written on the box "not appropriate for people with less I.Q. than 100" ;). WaterMelon34, I hope that 34 in your nickname doesn't represent your age...

Oh yah and sorry for double posting... i usually remember to say sumtin after i post.

This wouldn't scare me one bit :| I wouldn't quite call that scene, or HL2, the "best graphics ever for a game," though (I do think that HL2 has the best player models out of all the nextgen games, however).

Yes, don't bother to use the Edit button, you don't need to be ashamed, it's totally natural to use it, we all do.

And about the DX. It doesn't seem to me very logical to end Splinter Cell but not DX. I think someone is lying!
