The Dark Elf said:What you talking about? Thats the proper style .. well, if it wasn't so bitty, i dunno if thats jpeg compression or what though.
yep, thats pixelart for you, thats why I'm not very good at it. You don't with real pixelart get the luxury of using many shades for the edges of things, or really high res for hiding blocky angles. The edges HAVE to be a flat color too, so where the pink background is, that needs to be a single color of pink, otherwise you get problems with what happens when it goes over a different color background.... Granted.. That was more a case when you couldn't have proper alpha channels n such, which I guess doesn't apply so much now, but still, consider it the Dogma type rules of pixelart heheJangle said:aww, but if they were any worse than that, everyone would be a slightly rounded square.

why do you think it sucks?? Thats just the sort of thing I had in mind, tiny lil cutsy characters, its perfect, so shoosh already with the selfspankingSimonomiS said:Its meeee in Forumland!
...yes I know it sucks majorly...
Yeah, that's pretty much right. Well, I can't draw in paint for sh*t, so there's no point me being in it. But one thing is: Would you be using the names of real forum members? That would be cool instead of random crap. The Dark Elf said:It wouldn't be quite the same done in Source. I thought about it but no. Maybe a sideways scrolling shoot-em-up would benefit in Source though, or another game like this. But I think for this one pixelart and good old style gameplay would work best. That and I miss those days of packing games onto a tiny amount of memory hehe.
If Java could work fine for this kind of game I don't see why not. I only suggested Flash as a lot seem to use that one too. But whichever worksray_MAN said:I know some Java, so if you want it Java based...

Someone should make a pixelart game of the forum.. you play a mod who has to clean up forumworld and you get missions you need to complete in set timelimits and its all speccy style. That would be cool
you'd also have to avoid the beady eye's of the Munrobots
you'd have to be constantly on the look out for random spam attacks (cans of spam being thrown at you by fast moving enemies)
and also the odd person in a dark costume running around like a spy who holds up a picture of tub girl (in all its pixelated 16x16 glory) and dispatch him forthwith
while doing your missions, you'd get random users who need assistance, like moving a thread they made in one section to another (involves picking it up and then going to another section to put it in the right place)
also deleting threads users leave, and generally cleaning up the place
For an extra bonus you sometimes get breaking news that you have to quickly take to a member of the news team in a certain number of seconds
Then of course you'll have the odd troll who'll pose a problem and need to be banned or put on global ignore.
You start off as a regular moderator, having to perform the simpler tasks first, but you can't ban anyone at this point, so need to chase the trouble maker towards a supermod so they can, do enough of those tasks and get a high enough score to be upgraded to a super moderator, giving you better features, and being able to ban trolls and trouble makers in one go. But the game gets harder to play at this point.
Eventually you get a high enough score to be upgraded to Admin, where the game becomes almost impossible.
Also there's powerups, eg: one would be "munro is on vacation" where you get a short time to do what you want without getting in trouble
Another would be a bliink backup mode, which would call bliink and let her go crazy, useful for disposing of trolls during a spam attack hehe.

Anyhoo obviously its in no way related to Source, just the forum, done in Flash and in isometric style, with the basic gameplay you'd find in spectrum games, little fella running around a map that makes up the forum.
No this doesn't belong in the help wanted forum. I'm not looking for help cause I don't personally plan on making this (I can't do pixelart for starters lol) But I thought it would be fun to see what people thought. Remember, it wants to stay relatively simple, no deep storyline, its a pixelart isometric game like the good old days of gaming. It's closer to Trashman crossed with Ikari Warriors than FarCry or HL2.
I just miss this type of game, would be interesting to see what idea's others can come up with. Or even to prompt Vegeta to try some mockup screens *hint hint*
heh unlikelyDatrix said:errmmm, sorry. Its actually a pretty good idea, I would get to be a big floating orb that holds all the power and is only second in command to Munro, right?
far as i know the idea is still good, just needs a pixelguy to make it happen *points at you*vegeta897 said:Sorry to revive this thread, but I completely missed it when it came.
I would be glad to do some art for this! Is this idea still good? Willing to put this in action? It sounds so great!
eidt: Oh, and it gives me such pride to be thought of as the pixel man
do a few more but that one looks coolvegeta897 said:Character test, I need more ideas! Or do you like this one?
shuffling characters with no legs would be funvegeta897 said:It's hard to draw humanoid characters in the isometric perspective... I am trying to do a character that I won't need to animate for movement. That would be easier on the coder and me.
Oh, and whoever can code (java flash etc.) please post!
shuffling, you know.. no legs so you just move the arms a little forward and backward and they.. shuffle.. like most teenagersvegeta897 said:What do you mean "shuffling characters"? Or am I looking too deep into your post?
ooh ooh do me! do me! not in the biblical sense of course.vegeta897 said:Behold, the first custom character.
black clothes, long black hair, tiny bit of skin hehevegeta897 said:I tried drawing you like SulkDodds did.. But it's too hard with this small work area. Is there anything you can suggest?
just make me look like a spectrum sprite, black and white and with a big bannage gun lolvegeta897 said:Hmm, Perhaps Tron's character should be even more pixelated that usual. Heheh.
Any preferences for yours?
(And how do you like yours Fenric?)
TDE looks like jesus...except he's evil.vegeta897 said:Aaaaaaand done.
