OK, going to the hands... yeah, ok, so Gordon holds his guns with his hands, but not steering wheels, or objects. You know why? Because he's ****ing holding his gun.
Ok, no, how about this- If valve were to show your hands while steering, to be "consistent" they'd have to show them while holding objects too or whatever, right?
Do you know how many useable objects there are in half-life 2? Hundreds, or thousands. And thanks to the physics engine, they can each be positioned in innumerable different ways, and you can then pick them up, from any position. That's millions of positions, probably. And you know what they would have to do? Make models and animations of your hands for each of those millions of tiny possibilities.
Now, think of this- did you pick up every single little object you came upon in the game? Did you even pick up anything with your hands after you got the gravity gun? Would you pick up anything at all if you were on your third or fourth play through?
Do you know how many models, animations, and hours were wasted, just so you could see your damn hands pick up a telephone reciever? God, do you really think it will change the way you play the game if you saw your hands every time you interacted with something? Would it change the game for you so much if you looked down, and then there were your feet or whatever? (well, actually, it would, because it would lag like an arthritic bitch)
You are playing an FPS. You are in a forum about a particular FPS game. The acronym FPS, meaning first-person shooter. First person, as in not third person. Shooter, as in YOU SHOOT SHIT. What if you could take a side path aroudn every single group of enemies you came across? What the hell kind of shooter is that, if there's no shooting? Hell, do you even think about what you type?
