ok...I'm a grown man and all...but I'll tell you the freakiest nasty has to be the screamin zombie who runs full speed at you and claws at you. That dude freaks me out every time! When they appeared toward the end of ravenholm and they were climbing the drain pipes to get to you....phew....that was cool...

Second place goes to the spider head guy...I just like the sounds he makes before you get to him and he knows you're there.....pretty creepy

special recogniton goes to the sounds the regular zombie makes when you burn him alive....I almost feel sorry for the freak....almost.

Thats pretty harsh...

The poison headcrab zombies always give me the chills. Its not only their sick, strained breathing, but the fact that they are a bitch to kill and they launch the poison headcrabs. I hate those things!

And hercules, dont be an ass.

Some people DO care. Now go sit in your corner.

Yes, I personally hate those screaming leaping zombies too. They're the only enemies to have really scared me throughout the entire game.

Now try double-shotgunning one when it's leaping at you. If it was anymore real, Gordon would be gagging from a faceful of zombie.

none of the enemies scared me but it was a bit hard trying to kill the poison zombies on hard and also when there is endless and the apcs that shoot rockets at you when your on the airboat and you dont have that gun.

Soooooory yall obviously dont understand SARCASM! Just giving him a welcome. (btw fast zombies scare the shit outa me too)

Agreed.

Probably the most scary part in the game for me was when in Ravenholm. A poison head crab was hiding in some tall grass, and i was just standing looking at the grass (it looked too fake after seeing the realism hl2 has to offer), when it just leaped at my face. Holy crap, i jumped and yelped.

I love valve.

Yah the fast zombies scared me the most too. That one room in ravenholm where they break in through the ceiling is intense.

When they're climbing up the pipes, though, they're easy to take care of. Just move to the edge and shoot them as they come up.

Ha.ha....thanks for the welcome Herc. I'm glad for the other replies too!

Yeah, it's usually easy easy to take care of nasty bad guys the second time around when you know where they're coming from. But it's the first time you encounter them in a situation that makes the game special. Great atmosphere....the SFX of the guys climbing the drain pipes was awesome. I couldn't figure out what it was at first.

BTW, when the ant lions are after you....I like to wait until they pounce, then I yell "pull" (not really) and nail them with the shotgun...kinda like skeet practice! (There's more 2 cents for ya Herc!)

Shut up and go away. There was absolutely 0 reason for that post.
Moron.

Miccy dont hate, participate
btw, for s&g try turning on god mode and just letting the fast zombies run up to you and swat at you. The sounds they make are pretty freaky and when they are all up in your face and youre not dying, its o so scary.

The fast zombies were a big surprise throughout the game. Overall I thought the poison zombies were the weirdest / scariest, because when you killed them they sort of laughed as they died

the scariest part for me is the second house you come upon in in the coast level. its all quiet and you here the house creaking, but then you here a wheezing noise and out of no where a poisen headcrab zombie falls through the ceiling... fukin scared the shit out of me.

They sound to me like there crying, its very freaky

And yes the fast zombies made me jump a lot, i remember frantically searching for some shotty shells before i turned a corner in ravenholm

Shotgunwielding Combine soldiers on hard give me the shivers :(

yeah, after that i was scared to go in any house on the coast level.

>Yah the fast zombies scared me the most too. That one room in >ravenholm where they break in through the ceiling is intense.

First time I called up the elevator I left the door open. So I'm standing there, picking my virtual nose, when a couple of shrieking zombies race in there and scare the piss outta me. Ok, I reload that part and this time, I'm smart, so I close the door behind me before I call up the elevator. I figure: zombies open door and get face full of shotgun. I hear 'em coming and I'm focused on the door, and they come breaking through the ceiling! Man, that was cool.

Although they didn't particularly scare me, the headcrab-flinging zombies were cool. I think they are the re-animated bodies of NFL quarterbacks victimized by poison-headcrabs. They could really chuck those things some distance!

The freakiest bad guy are thoose things that you see when your getting transported around the citadel. After that its thoose poison headcraps, mostly because they get you down to 1 HP, and if theres a combine soldier near, 1 hit kills you.

You mean a Stalker?

I read about them in the hint book. Was scared shitless everytim i had to go somewhere dark. Especialy in Nova Prospekt.

Word. The regular zombies aren't too scary after awhile, but they can startle you. I was going through the Water Hazard, and came to the part where you drop the washing machine in the lift. Well, before I found the washing machine, I was looking for more cinder blocks. I went back into the pipe I came out, and started waling toward the grate-covered end. I was looking for a block, and right in front of me, maybe 2 feet, this zombie stands up straight and charges. Damn near had to change my shorts after that one.

The fast zombies scared me also the the normal ones kind of did when they just broke through walls, and thier screams are the best. I set them on fire on purpose just to laugh at the laugh

i felt the poisen zombies were freaky too... although this didnt happen as much in HL2, ut in HL when u hear a sound, look around and see nothing and then look back where u were facing when u heard the sound (dark corridor or vent) and at that moment a head crab jumps at you... i fell off my chair literally most the time lol :p

EDIT: Oh! and when u burn the normal zombies (this has been posted before) but their screams are actually cries for help and stuff backwards, freaky...

That is freaky. When ever they got set on fire, i would try to kill them with the gravity-gun (save ammo) so they stop screaming. I hate that scream. It sounds like the human who is screaming (i mean as if they were concious and could feel the pain).

Moral dillema!

The "scream" played backward is actually somebody screaming "Oh my God!" (which actually just makes it freakier for me). I didn't find this out... someone else did but I don't know who to credit.

And I was the most scared by the leaping zombies too.

I despised the poison headcrabs themselves, and their zombies. I'm not a big fan of spiders and those are too spider like, giant trantulas that jump at your face, yikes. That and the stalkers were creepy, even though they look harmless and are what they are.

The screaming zombies freaked me out, esp when i wasnt expecting them, like when u climb in that giant pipe in the side of the cliff to get into nova prospekt and one jumps at u.

on the coast level, i remember going into one of the houses, and all i had equipped was a pissy handgun, and on the 2nd storey, that poisen headcrab zombie appeared out of nowhere and got me backed into a corner, so i think ha muther****er ill get u, quickload the game, go up there, thinking i knew where hed be this time i sneak around with grenade ready and he wasnt there, i turn around and hes already getting ready to throw a headcrab at me.

And when they die, i think they're crying with relief like "thank **** im finally gonna be dead" :)

in one level, i was walking inside, and noticed a door to the left, i went in there and it was an electrical closet with circuit breakers, a health box and some supply boxes, i went around and started busting them up getting health, and wheni turned around there the focker was, bam, 1 health, that sucks, bam hit again, i died before i could get more than 1 shot off with a sg (secondary) so once i reloaded, i went the left closet instead of the right and there he was

i unloaded on his ass, those things scare the SHIT out of me,

oh , and the running zombies, they are only scary in ravenholm, after that i think they lose there scare factor (anticitizen levels for example)

By far the scariest moment for me, besides fear-of-heights scary, was in this three-story mansion by the beach on Highway 17. You kill a few combine outside and make your way upstairs, no big deal. Two supply crates sit behind a table and some boxes in the attic. Jump on the table and...two rollermines come out of nowhere! The sound they make doesn't sound that bad in the outdoors, but backpedaling from two of them in a cramped attic is a different story. I shot both of them out a window towards the sea. np.

About ten seconds later I hear something crash through a window somewhere downstairs. Then I have to listen while the beeping thing hunts around the house for a way to get to me. When I find it and shoot it towards the sea, its partner busts in somewhere else. It never felt so good to get out of that house.

Every single little house along the seafront freaked me out. I just kept thinking about the people who used to live there...so much history and death and pain strewn around these abandonded, wasted shacks, squatting alone in no-man's land, haunted by zombies shuffling amidst the decaying furniture...

The enemies that really scared me were the stalkers and the zombies: both of them tormented soulds unable to find release, trapped in disgusting, twisted bodies...ugh.

The stalkers in Nova Prospekt. The thought of what kind of surgery has to be done to a human to reduce them to that is really unsettling.

The zombies. Oh how those napalm induced screams were scary. Does anyone remember the zombie early in Ravenholm who was locked in the cage, just waiting for you to light him on fire? That creeped me out.

The runner up is the fast zombie, who I never seem to be able to hit properly. They always take at least two shotgun hits to the head, and take out a big chunk of my health when I miss (which is frequent.)

Next comes the poison variety of headcrabs and zombies. Those are annoying little buggers, but I found them less scary than fast headcrabs. Mainly because the poison crabs were slow and easily evaded.

Finally, the stalker gets an honorable mention. I could almost hear the screams in nova prospekt as the combine sawed off the stalker's limbs and replaced them with metal limbs.

The stalkers were really disturbing, even considering that I had dealt with the fast zombies. The fast zombies weren't really that "scary" per se, only unexpected. Kind of a "What the F*CK is THAT thing?!?"

I remember that part in Forget About Freeman where you're in the zomibe-infested building, and that FLAMING, SCREAMING FAST ZOMBIE COMES SKITTERING OUT OF A HOLE IN THE FLOOR! That was wicked-cool.

I did that too. I hated those screams, even though every time I came across same gas cannisters, I can't resist throwing them at the zombies. :p It's funny and cruel at the same time. ;(

Happiness

Happiness is a fast zombie either impaled on one of the preachers meathooks, or stuck to an electrified fence!

I don't think I ran into any of the stalkers when I played. The screams of the tortured Zombies on flames are hilariouse, because the run around screaming and I just look at them and ask if they have a smoke.
