Sure enough another Doom 3 troll came along today and ended up looking more ridiculous then ever. Talk about being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The thread lasted only 10 minutes, and he probably spent an hour typing all that. I didn't even have time to find my square-headed imp picture.

I was just thinking that. I know I'm going to buy both Doom3 and Half Life 2. And I see no reason why anyone else won't. And, probably, id are going to be playing Half life 2 and Valve are going to be playing Doom3.

I wonder if any Half Life 2 fans go onto Doom 3 message boards. I hope not.

They do, I read Doom 3 boards sometimes, and some crazy guy posts something like "OMFG HL2 WILL OWNZ DOOM3, YOU ALL SUXOR". I feel ashamed that he is HL2 fan. But than again, idiots can be found everywhere.

Before you do, let me just say something though.
Normally when I see some sort of argument towards Steam or HL2 it's very inconstructive e.g. "OMG STEAM IS TEH SUCK"
I must commend you on not being retarded in the sense that you've backed up your arguments, but I am really amazed by your retardedness in another sense.

You come on to a HL2 fan forum to call us a load of fan boys, despite you yourself being a fan boy. Damn, that's intelligent isn't it? What makes it worse is that you've clearly just registered on the forum simply because of the fact that you want to bitch. Congratulations - you look like as much of a retard as the guy that wrote the comments in my sig.

What's more is you don't even really back up your thoughts with correct or relevant information. Firstly you compare one of our in game shots with one of your pre rendered shots. Then you go on to say how there is no bump mapping or specular sheen on people. Which in fact there is.

Then you go on about the environment and show a picture saying "pasted imaged on a box" method was used, when actually every single bit of terrain and building work on that screenshot was 3D and part of the game world.

Then you point out a problem that doesn't even exist anymore.

Then you show a screenshot of the ant lions in the water. This is also a very old screenshot as it has a much older shotgun model, which if you've seen the traptown video you'll realise now looks a lot better.
Also there's many reasons why there weren't any effects in the water showing any sort of splashes. Maybe the enemies weren't moving, maybe the water was rippling already due to the aircraft flying above it making the other ripples caused by the other enemies unnoticable.

Now like a lot of people have already stressed: Nearly everyone here appreciates the quality of the Doom 3 engine. I personally am also looking forward to STALKER, and will almost definitely buy Doom 3 as well. I don't follow D3 or Stalker all that much because I am a HL2 fan, and have been for five years, but I'm not a fan boy by any means. I can still appreciate other games, without feeling the need to go on their forums and say "Your game sucks, look at ours". So really my friend, the only fan boy here is you.

We're just friendly people that want to talk about our favourite computer game. We like Doom 3, we like STALKER, we like many games from many genres. Like I said though, just because we favour one particular game, doesn't mean we feel the need to go round to the other communities bitching about HL2 being good.

To settle the matter of Doom 3 Vs. Half Life 2, it does not take the comparison of graphical excellence to decide a winner, but purely the fact that if I bought Doom 3 I would get bored of it. It's a waste of money because it has no good multiplayer, no good replayability, and it's not the kind of gameplay that interests me anyway (shoot randomly and endlessly until finished).

Half Life 2 will be modded upon endlessly, it will get progressively better, the muliplayer element will be one of (if not the) best ever seen, it will be played for years to come, and the singleplayer looks like something you could come back to time and time again.

Comparing Doom 3 to Half Life 2 is like comparing Incoming to Flight Simulator.

Infact in a year or two there will be so many games in production and on the shelves that use Doom3 technology that no game developer would consider liscensing an engine(source) that is inferior(visually). You dont see Game companies still buying the quake2 engine do you? Just look at the unreal2 engine. Why would any game company liscense it with engines like source and doom3 on the horizon? Its inferior to both the way most gamers see it. And when Doom3 technology becomes standard game developers will pass up the source engine for the same reason.

I never compared the two games. The only people comparing them are you hl2 fans. Im simply comparing the visual quality of the two engines driving these games.


As for comparing the games themselves, that is a useless endevour. It comes down to a matter of opinion. As for me, i will enjoy both games. I think i will enjoy Doom3 more simply because the style is more appealing to me. However, i am thankfull that i will be playing hl2 before Doom3 so that i dont become accustomed to the superior visual quality of the Doom3 engine, thereby degrading my experience with the visually inferior hl2.

Yes, a lot of these points have bases (emails, interviews, videos) but I agree that the points themselves might not be accurate.

I don't want to have to list all of Doom3's inadequacies because I'm looking forward to the game. I personally want to see games come up with new ways to effect the player whether it's with emotion, intrigue, fear, etc... and I felt HL2 and Doom3 both promised innovation in their SP. You should be careful because you're probably turning people *away* from Doom3 contrary to what you think you're doing. You've antagonized yourself and the game you're trying to represent. I hope you'll understand this and stop these stupid flame wars that seem to pop up wherever you post.

Doom 3 : STUNNING GRAPHICS, 4 player multiplayer? You gotta be kidding right?, Run and Gun(Thats what ID Games ARE!)

HL2: Stunning Graphics, 32+ MP(EVEN QUAKE 3 COULD HOLD THAT MUCH!), Gameplay that has more puzzles and thought involved.

Now, I personally will be buying BOTH games, but Doom3 I will only be buying because I allways buy ID's games because they look cool. If Quake 4 is limited to 4 player deathmatch, they will have a big FLOP on their hands. 2 players per team CTF. WOOT!

To be honest i couldn't care which game is better. It is a matter of opinion. Now then brassmonkey you should know that posting anything about Doom III being better, whether it be the Engine or the finished game, will always spark off a stupid argument. So please refrain from doing it, at least until the games are released.
As for the rest of you shooting him down, you are no better than he is. By replying to these sorts of arguments, you are only extending their life and making them worse. If you don't want these "Doom III trolls"(that wasn't directed at brassmonkey) to spark off these debates, then don't encourage them by sinking down to their level and actually arguing with them. Remember, it takes two to argue; just ignore them and they will go away after a bit. If you want, you can tell a Mod about the thread and it will be dealt with properly. Rather than turning into an endless flame war which cant end because its all based on peoples opinions.
