G-man and Crows

Anyone else notice that when G-man is around the Crows are right there with him? in anti-cit one is sitting on his shoulder, and in Red Letter one is in the desert marking where you teleport to. They also mark points in the game were you are going to be attacked, it’s almost like they are G-man's look out for you. Also I find it funny that Lumrar attacks one after you teleport to the desert.

There's a theroy floating around that the G-Man represents the siberian myth of 'Big Raven', an agent of the gods.

Also, there's the Native American tale of how the Raven created the world, but i'm not too clear on that.

Other then that, I just guess the G-Man likes crows.

Interesting observation.. I didnt see that.

G-Man has Maccas in his briefcase, and we all know that crows LOVE maccas :D

in native american mythology (well there are a lot of tribes with a lot of stories, and raven sometimes creates the world, etc) Raven is a trickster god
in Norse mythology, Odin communicates by Ravens

both seem pretty fitting for G-Man

I thought Coyote was a trickster? oh yeah, lots of tribes...

G man truns into crows sometimes just like vampires turn into bats.

on the topic of crows... my favourite bit in the game was when you are saving barney from snipers and they're shooting at all the crows
(and filing cabinets)

Maybe he smells like crow food and the reason he keeps teleporting all over the place is because those damn crows keep finding him no matter where he goes.

Great observation. I think there's something significant about the ravens as Valve always used an ASCII text bird in the 'tests' before the game was out. hmm....

It's weir but sometimes crows land close too you look at you and fly away. It clear that they are watching you. Maybe G-man talks to crows so they report to him. :frown:

G-Man went from a government agent in HL1 to a wierd time traveling hobo that talks to birds in HL2  :p

the crows (on a simpler level) represent evil aswell. oooohhhh! make sure you watch the gman because he is watching you.

In Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, crows are downright nasty buggers. They are spys for the Dark One. They travel in flocks large enough to attack and kill people and wolves (and wolf-people like Perrin and Elias).

That's probably why I think the G-Man is a bad man (if man he is!). He's got all these crow spys. Give me the blue gravity gun, and I'll snatch a few crows out of the air and fling them against the wall!

Crows were one of the very first things we wanted in HL2 (it was a pet feature request of Ted Backman's almost from the moment we finished HL1), so we had versions of crows in the game for a long time; Adrian didn't get to do much work on their AI till fairly late in development.

It sounds like they put in a lot of work into them .. I dont think they would spend all this time working on a bunch of birds just for fun.

hahahahah!!!! :D

It's simple, the G-Man is a closet ornithologist with an unhealthy obsession with crows. He has studied them long enough to be able to communicate with them and get them to trust him enough to run errands for him. Next he will infiltrate their gene pool and take over our reality with his army OF EXTRADIMENSIONAL SUIT WEARING DEMI-CROWS!
You know I'm onto something here.

There is so much diverse symbolism behind crows/ravens that there's no way of telling what Valve was implying (assuming they were implying anything at all).

Personally, I like the Stephen King approach to crows and ravens...specifically from The Stand where the crow is one of the forms of the Devil's Imp, the Walkin Dude, Randall Flagg (and, let's not forget the references to King in the descriptions of the original HL).

you sure there not ravens? there either ravens or crows, but ravens represent the devil, so maybe thats what it all about

G-Man is the Crow!!! Now all we need is a crime syndicate and a saucy asian villainese.

I loved on canals when a barnacle eats a crow! Maybe it ate g man?

crows and g-man? maybe its just a little spoof based on Agent smith from reloaded, the bit right before the burley brawl, neo see's smith walking towards him and you have all the crows flying up off the ground and into the air. it looked really COOL!

Maybe its Valve's way of telling the gaming industry to "Eat Crow!".

It was asked before but there was no answer...When is a crow sitting on G-Man's shoulder? Screenshot? or just more info?

If you go to anti-cit1 trip the action where Gman appears on the tv, then Noclip straight down he's standing on half a boat with a Crow/Raven on his sholder. I'm actualy starting to think they are Ravens because Crows are the smaller of the two, and the birds don't acutaly cry out when they take of <I think...>
