I didnt see this posted so please dont bring out the rope. I thought it was interesting that gabe would post over at firearms. It sas Gabe Newell and has the VALVE SOFTWARE as part of the tag.

Interesting thing is it appears this account was made augest 11th. God i hope gabe didnt make a account.... Not use it... And use the same password.
 
Nah, could be anybody, I should go on a Doom 3 forum and create such a username ;)
 
Reason i say it is becuase dont for it to get the valve software tag where the moderator spot goes require firearms mods to turn that on after authenticateing the account?
 
True, true, but after the whole Gold fix, I don't really believe anything anymore and the only thing that'll convince me is EB calling me to pick up my HL2 box.
 
Even if the FA mods did have to authorise the account, there's no guarantee they could, even if they wanted to, confirm that it was actually him.

He registered just for that post - that would mean he would have to frequent the FA forums without posting, but make an example just for that.

I'm going with 100% Fake.
 
Actually didnt the hoax crap start friday night/sat morning? This post is the 27th at 7:13 am.

Edit: Maybe he was trying to draw attention to firearms? It is a good mod or atleast it was a long time ago.
 
Look on the second page, one of the admins says "It is the echo of a sarcastic remark I made a while back."

I think that date is referring to the next issue of the magazine which will have HL2 content.

The magazine was mentioned in another thread, I think. The 22nd is the date of the next magazine, and it's from Austrailia.

Make of that what you will.

what got me was the far cry 1.2 patch on the left page I mean it was recalled a while back why is it in there?WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.

Holy crap, that's the most worthless attempt at fakery I've ever had the misfortune of seeing. As cylyk already mentioned, any half-decent magazine would have a good understanding of grammar and its usage. The phrase should be 'It's done' not 'Its done'. Laughable attempt, truly laughable.
 
Well, in regards to that magazine, we'll find out tomorrow when it appears in my mailbox. Then we'll know the truth.
 
Okay, I've seen a few shots at other angles... and there's a possibility that it could be real. How a large magazine development team could get something like that so blindingly wrong is far beyond me, but the fact that they can't even place their own grammatically-incorrect text efficiently just shows me how amateurish they must be :hmph:

PC Powerplay is a good mag, it's been around for a long time, though they have a shocker of an editing team.

Possibly coupled with the excitement of receiving the news that the next issue would have a Half Life 2 review, and them having a very short time to quickly squeeze a teaser for it into the issue. Still, even then it's a pretty big shocker to pass through, but mistakes happen. Sometimes the most obvious places are the ones least looked at.

So yeah pretty much every single forum post by Gabe Newell this weekend has been confirmed as fake. Including this one, though there wasn't really much doubt in my mind about that anyway.

Yeah. The text "Its done" isn't justified centrally either. I'm a Graphic Design student and even if this was a quick job, you would still have the awareness to keep a decent standard of layout. The grammar is dumb but plausible. We will see.
 
The posts aren't fake, Gabe Newell is, he doesn't exist. I reckon a bloke just turned up at Valve and was like "I'm in charge of HL2" and with Valve's security noone has realised.

Tic, their is so much speculation going around that even if EB came out and said the game is done people would still have doubt in their mind.
 
All these "It's fake!" (or if you prefer "Its fake!") conspiracy theorists remind me of those wackos who scrutinize photos of the moonlandings and convince themselves that they were shot in a studio.

The mag is ofcourse telling us what we all know, the game has been done for ages.
