If you listen real close to the HL1 sound files, you can occasionally make out a voice that's barely audible. Just groans and stuff.
Ok, I'm confused. It's nice that they had the whole lecture and everything, but why would they go to the trouble of putting sign language in-game? Couldn't deaf gamers just turn on the subtitles?
It's not planned as an accessability feature. In-game sign language is introduced as a topic as a way of exploring character expressiveness in the games. Gabe is asking whether it would be interesting to have a character use sign-language, but ultimately it's a novelty feature that aids characterisation. The entire cast wouldn't start signing, and the rest of the interview is about what features could be added to the existing subtitle system be more deaf-friendly.Ok, I'm confused.
