I hate games that have wonderful graphics and derivative gameplay. I hate games on rails. I'm growing to hate all the main genres of games too. FPS games for example are all starting to seem the same underneath the hood to me. Bullet time, a melee kick, a gravity gun, sci-fi/western/wwii/ textures slapped on to an existing engine are all pathetic attempts in my opinion to create interest in a stale genre. I hate the emphasis on graphics, graphics, graphics.
I could probably go on for hours. I guess the above reasons are why I don't buy or play games that much anymore.
I know, that's why I wrote that, just to emphasizeTop Secret said:Can't dodge a 20. =)
Mine: Games without ragdolls.
Other than the fact that you can see Leon onscreen, that sounds like Resident Evil 4.VirusType2 said:Yea, I don't know who decided that all games would be the same. Why does nearly every FPS have to be a WW2 game? Why not have a FPS where you go through interesting areas like castles palaces or mansions. I mean isn't it nice to go through a mansion with rich decor, ancient relics (think Natural History museum) as opposed to running through low budget appartments and destroyed areas like in HL2? The mansion thing is one of the reasons I liked Resident Evil 1 so much. Exploring beautiful stuff.

Now THAT'S entertainment.

WW2 games inhibit any kind of creative spark, because EVERYTHING is already done for the developers:
Plot, backstory and motivation? Done
Setting? Done
Locations? Done
Enemies? Done
Weapons? Done
Vehicles? Done
Creativity? None
People always complain about how many WW2 mods there are, but rarely about how many WW2 GAMES there are.
It's boring, it's LAZY and it's simply developers in there to make a buck because they know they'll sell well.
CoD I have more time for, because it's not the usual "...and THAT'S how the US won the war ALL ON ITS OWN."

Yeah, but at least in fiction it's possible to create whatever you like. The examples you gave can be done in so many different ways that it takes a lot for them to become tiresome. WW2, however, is restricted greatly because of the developers' want for such realism. There's only so much you can do with the Pacific Theater or a small French village each time.CptStern said:yes but ...if you take that criteria and apply it to ANY fps and it's been done to death
genetic experiment gone wrong - check
corridor crawls through darkened laboratories - check
monsters popping out of every corner - check
sequence where really big monster with giant guns for arms bursts into the scene signaling the end of game - check
uber-gun that kills everything within spitting distance - check
"sci-fi " setting that pretty much involves using a pistol, shotgun, machine gun and rocket launcher ..albeit with fancy names like Thrill-kill-o-matic-3000XXP - check
pretty much every fps is the same underneath ..of course their are exceptions but just liook at D3, fear, Q4 ..it's the same crap we've been playing for years wrapped up in a shiney package ..that's all
fps need a shot in the arm ..not just ww2 fps

JUST SHOOT THE DAMN THING!
I hope to just see a game one day with the first level you have 2 main character allies. You come up to a door with a blue handle. One fella says "Maybe we need a blue key!" realy enthusiasticaly, the other gives him a look like he just said "I think eating rat poison makes you healthy!" and just shoots the lock of the door, continue mission.TheBleeding said:Keys to flimsy, wooden doors are also an annoyance to me, too. I agree. Just when I read about protection missions being awful, I remembered some that I enjoyed. For example, the part in HL2 where you were covering Alyx on the streets of City 17 when she was deactivating the generator to open the gate. It was a very cool scene, with drop ships coming in with overwatch you barely hold them off long enough to get the gate open. While not an entire mission, I think its a good example of how protecting something/someone could be done right.Sulkdodds said:There isn't anything in particular that irks me actually. Not that I can think of. Stuff like insta-fail stealth missions, protection missions, turret sections, on-rails vehicles etc, doesn't annoy me because it can be done well - it's just that so often they're crappily built and tacked onto a very average game because it's the 'in thing' right now and they have a big checklist of 'things to include'.
