I might be overreacting a bit, but after reading: "In July of this year, THQ announced that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. would be pushed back from its original holiday 2004 release window. THQ CEO Brian Farrell said that the company's desire to keep the game's release away from surefire FPS blockbusters like Halo 2 and Doom 3 led to the delay in the release date."

It's not just that, but other little snippets that Gamespot always says about HL2 that makes me believe that they biased towards it.

What do you think?

I agree. I just checked the HL2 vs halo2 poll and halo is way ahead. I think they advertise halo2 alot on gamespy, but I never see HL2 at all. Not one mention of it. hmm...

Of course halo is going to win. Its freakin halo. Tons and tons of what we would call newbies love that game. Playing computer games takes a little more know how.

The average halo fan needs help turning on his xbox.

The average halflife fan is better educated than Mr. Freeman.

think about it, it comes down to how you spend a ton of money on Computer game by updating your computer. Xbox you spend $150 and your set for 4 to 5 years. So the name has a easier time getting out. Another thing is that Halo is the only really good Xbox game, So lets say you just have a xbox so you trying to prove that the xbox is great so you promote halo like it is the god of video games. I think if there was another great Xbox game then halo would not have the fan base it has.

I honestly hated halo. The plot was sub-standard and the combat was annoying.

I guess I just didn't get it.

Biased against it.

Learn the language.

I didn't realize that people actually read anything on gamespot..
What an awful website, if you ask me ;)

the game didn't do anything new. it was just a all round good console FPS. I think that in 5 years Halo will be like Sonic. (I am the biggest Sonic fan by the way) Where you remember Its name but you think of Mario as the king of Platform games.

i really dun understand why ppl would prefer Halo 2 over Half-Life 2.

Gameplay/storyline was pretty average to me, although the part where the protaganist wears a suit and kills aliens seemed rather familiar :p

Also, the Source engine is technologically superior compared to the Xbox in EVERY way.

Oh well, to each their own

how can you compare software to a hardware platform?
Xbox is as good as what you do with it.
Halo 2 gets more attention bcos there are more console gamers than PC Gamers. having Microsoft on your side doesn't hurt either.

by all reports, Halo 2 is much better than Halo 1, so it's not much point complaining about how Halo 1 was no good.

and original poster, yes u were over-reacting. in July of this year, was anyone sure when HL2 would be out? plus Gamespot didn't write it, it's a quote , doofus

"Biased towards" works. It doesn't imply a positive or negative bias. "Biased towards" simply incicates a bias relating to the subject.

Lesson learned.

Halo / Halo 2 is beat the bad aliens for console kiddies. Half Life 2 is for real gamers.

Well actually the full quote is "biased towards it" with "it" referring to Half Life 2. So it becomes "biased towards Half Life 2" which does indeed indicate a positive bias.

Biased political news I care about. But biased game news? I really couldn't care less.

I've read some horrible stuff on gamespot.... great games being positively bashed, and games I found excruciatingly boring being praised to no end.

Besides, never take the word of a reviewer, or any journalist for that matter, seriously. Some are paid to say things, some are stupid, some are spot on, and some just have different tastes to you. Since there's no way you can really know which is the case, never rely on one source for that sort of info.

Of course Gamespy and Gamespot are biased. Some of the people who work for them and do reviews etc.. work on games like Unreal Tournament 2004 and yet are allowed to compare those games to other games in their articles :D.

Gamespy knowingly keeps bogus Game statistics regarding the popularity of Games because they allow certain games to count bots (non human players) in their statistics and therefore a game like Unreal Tournament 2004 and a few other games (where half the players or more are bots) will look much more popular than they really are.

Gamespy allows fraudulent poles where people can easily cheat by clearing their cookies and use macro scripts to vote automatically and repeatedly an indefinite amount of times. They fixed this problem once, yet seem to have reverted back to the old easily cheatable system  . Sites like Gamespot and Gamespy really have no credibility because many times their reviews and polls are influenced by who makes or publishes the game and by who advertises on their sites.

Spoken like a true kiddy :/

I think Halo2 might just beat HL2 simply because of Tech requirement....Fast pc with a decent video card and a net connection just to play the game, compared to an Xbox,Halo 2 and away you go.......Well here in the Uk anyway........

Could y'all stop comparing the two games? They have nothing in common. Halo has an extremely well developed story line which you only will completely grasp when getting into details (like we all do with the rumours forum and endless discussions about Mk.4 or Mk.5 suits etc.) I will attend the german premiere of Halo 2 in Munich and will play it over and over. Then Half Life 2 comes and I will play that and after that I will play Killzone for PS2.

What's the deal?

OMFGWTFH4X? You are serious in that comment as well, aren't you...?

Is this forum so fanboy that other games aren't allowed to be good?

Halo 2 is Halo... plus a couple new weapons, a neat new multiplayer mode or two, and a slightly upgraded GFX engine. Halo 1 had the same enemy over and over again with some of them being different colors. *yawn* Nothing for me to crap my pants over, and since I don't own an XBox I really don't care. More than likely I'll play it at a buddie's house and own them like I did Halo 1 and that'll be the end of it. :p

Half-Life 2... well, I mean we ARE on a forum hosted by halflife2.net. Half-Life 2 to HL1 differences : Physics, graphics engine, enemy AI, weapons, squad AI, plot, lip sync technology, enemies, location... etc etc.

Halo 2 appeals to the masses, Half-Life 2 appeals to everyone else. Why are we even arguing this? This horse has been beat to death 1000x before....

That's what I mean. No matter what the discussion is not necessary. We are all here waiting for HL2...and I for one am waiting for Halo2 as well.

I won't even go into why you said you don't like Halo :cheese:

Haven't you read the post correctly?

They say back in july, when Doom 3 and Halo 2 were confirmed releases, and there was no news about hl2's definate release date, back then.

It's not like the Halo 2 people is much better.
I really don't think it's strange that they're biased. Microsoft's involved; think they'd let Halo 2's archenemy be talked about nicely just like that? Of course not, they shell out a lot of money to the easily-bought gaming sites. And Doom 3 has already come and gone, that's no threat.

Edit, to lans: The creators of Stalker did say that they didn't want to release so close to HL2 as well.

The creators of stalker, or the gaming industry in general had no idea when hl2 would come back in july. That quote is from July. Repeat - JULY.

In any case, GSC did have a rough idea that it would be bad enough sales without the most anticipated pc title on the way. With it, it becomes even worse for them.

@Sharrd: being a fan of both games I just don't like that.
