Gaming is a waste of time

I also need to construct my time alot better. All I do is either play games or go on forums.

Freaking A', I'ma be in college soon, time to visit the outside world.

i have never tried and i dont think i ever will. its not that im addicted to it, i just really like they way that people can come up with stuff like that. Its kool that u quit and ur happy but i just dont see myself ever doing it.

Gaming is a staple of our society, there's nothing wrong with it. It's when you play for HOURS ON END that it becomes a problem. Every friend I have plays video games, some casual, some hardcore. I spent 50 hours beating Resident Evil 4 during the summer, and I played every few days for about 2 hours each time. And I still went out with friends.

It's called finding balance. I found mine; it's around 4 hours per week of gaming, more if time permits. I'll never quit gaming, because I can't... games are so much fun, they open up a world where I can do things I can't here. I know two couples who play games, both in their early 20s. One of them has actually both people being gamers, one has only the fiance. And even my aunt (the latter couple) wanted to buy a Gameboy Advance so she could kill time when she needed to. Hell, the former couple is my lady friend's sister and her husband. Their entire family plays games save the mom. Yes, her dad (40 something) plays Halo, Ghost Recon, and even Sims. Even their fashion queen daughters play games; my lady friend plays Morrowind, The Sims, and even Halo.

Last year, I was a typical geek, I suppose. I had a crappy hairstyle, I actually grew out my beard and mustache (later just a goatee) and I looked like crap. Thanks to that family, I am now looking waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better and even I will be going shopping spree in a few months to get decent clothes. I've been turned into a hygenic fashion dude. If only people took the time to meet people... you could be a fashionable geek ;)

So there's nothing inherently wrong with games, you can enjoy life and games, you have to find a balance. When you're a kid, you have a lot of time to play, when you grow up, you don't. Doesn't mean you should stop playing though...

I've been gaming for awhile, but i haven't touched a game on my computer in a couple months. I'm really motivated to study now. I played games all through college and now my time is consumed by hours in the coffee shop and library. In fact, I shouldn't even be posting here now, considering I have a test tomorrow. eek! I love video games. I just enjoy my friends and school so much more right now. This is probably the longest break I have gone without really playing any video games. My advice, like everyone elses here: if gaming replaces friendships and social activities, you may one day regret your decision to hole up inside your domicile staring at a screen. Enjoy life outside. It's better than any pixel. I guarantee you that.

you are.. uhm.. forget it, i need to have something to eat..

if it weren't for PC gaming id probably have gone insane long ago

Didnt they study the effects on Online Gaming and found that it actually improved Sociality, Intelligence, Reaction Time, Learning, etc etc etc?

yeah games like WoW are groundbreaking, not because they encourage social gaming, they REQUIRE it. its sad i know but i think i have more/better friends on all my online games than in real life.

but no, i dont play games all day long. im not that hardcore. unless i just got the game or im raiding on WoW or something, then ill spends quite a while playing.

Well I'm okay with video games' effect on our society, so long as it doesn't affect the gamers' desire to ... shower.

Gaming is something i do.

It's only a waste of time if it's an obsession.
