Garfield The Movie

Y'know, I think he looks a lot more in the movie like he did back when the strip was just starting... not like he looks now (which, IMHO, wouldn't match up very well against live action humans).

Someone said he's not fat. Look closer. He's incredibly fat.

And as to you people who say Garfield doesn't run around, I say go and look through whatever Garfield books you have, and you'll see that, with the proper motivation, ol' Garfield can be quite energetic...

This is not a good movie. They have got the whole cast (that I saw) completely wrong. I agree that garfield will move fast with the right motivation, but dancing with odie?! Not a garfield thing. He is fat, but the CGI is so bad you can't really tell. The real dog looks nothing like odie, and the CGI garfield looks completely fake next to him. The vet looks right, but there is no way she would smile when saying garfield was fat.

Most importantly, they seem to have overlooked the fact that garfield is a cat! L ook closely at the books. Does garfield talk? No! He's a cat! All he ever does is think. ie. The books show thought bubbles. Sure other animals can hear him, but humans can't. If he talks in the movie and people can hear him, that would be stupid. I should stop, but I could go on listing things wrong with that little trailer all day.

Well, I wouldn't know about the cast... and he has been known to play with Odie before... I don't think that the CGI is particularly bad... I agree that Odie would look better as a CGI creature like Garfield... Garfield is a comic strip character, so the question of fakeness is neither here nor there, in my opinion... I dunno, Liz might smile, if the context were right (Ie, she'd just managed to get Jon to shut up).

I dunno about the lip movement (don't really mind it myself), perhaps he'll only "think" when humans are around, and speak otherwise. Jon does actually seem to understand what Garfield is saying at times...

Heheh... I'm a nut :E.

The CGI is terrible. What have they done to Garfield? What have they done to SpongeBob?!

Alright, I admit that 'fakeness' isn't really an issue, but I wonder how they're going to handle the speech thing. For a long time I actually thought garfield spoke, but then one day i realised that Jon couldn't actually hear him. It was a revelation, and I re-read a lot of strips, and I saw that Jon didn't actually say anything that meant he knew what garfield was thinking. Anything he said usually could be explained by the look on garfields face, or the 'sixth sense' pet owners have. The best thing I can think of is if the movie has garfield just muttering under his breath at jon when his back is turned, unless they use an echoey 'thought voice'. Any opinions?

Nowhere in the trailer does it show a human understanding him jabber.

Yeah, I know, but it shows him actually talking. Maybe they will just make it so humans can't understand him in the film even though he's talking, but i'm just hoping they don't have humans understanding him. I admit i've been a bit critical of the film so far, i'm just a big garfield fan. Some of it looks funny, so it might be worth watching, but i doubt i'll be paying for it.

What about the CGI is so terrible?

Onya ph34r.
The CGI doesn't make him look fat. He looks so gay and unreal. They should just scrap this movie and find a better idea.

I'd go with the "thought voice" idea.

The one thing that I really don't like about the trailer is the horrible narrator at the start. He sounds so forced, fake, and overenthusiastic...
