Garry Newman's hugely successful Garry's mod will officially be part of Steam soon, as Valve and himself have agreed a electronic distribution agreement so his mod can be downloaded by all!
"The new version has been created from scratch so almost everything has been revised and re-invented," said Garry Newman, creator of Garry's MOD. "It has a bunch of new tools to play with (winches, hydraulics and hoverballs), totally new spawn menu and a few new Post Processing effects to play with. The great thing about Steam is that I can update really regularly, really easily - which is something I plan on doing - so expect more tools/gamemodes/stuff to come."
It's right around the corner too, release expected on November 29th. Price, I hear you ask? Well, because the mod is Source based, you need a Source game to run it. If you already have a Source based game, it will be $9.95 (£5 ish). If you don't it will be available with CS Source for $24.95 (£13 ish).[br]Congratulations to Garry for his hard work!

I'm pretty thrilled to see that he's going to be making money for the countless hours he's put into making the most popular mod there is.

His website seems to be in cardiac arrest right now, this news is minutes old, in my inbox from Lombardi. I'll update with links from steampowered.com when available. Maybe Garry will stop by too before leaving us permanently :)

Glenn - can you forward whatever Valve emails you get my way? ennui[at]halflife2[dot]net or ennuinin[at]gmail[dot]com

I might buy it so I can donate. I've downloaded and played with the mod a bit..and it's solid. He put so much time and effort into the game, that my $10 would be worth it IMHO.

Nice. I'll probably get it to try out great stuff he's done with it.

will buy. i'm quite interested to see what else will be produced with the money he earns.

When I first heard about garry selling his mod I thought "what a fag, leechin off everyone to make some money from a frikkin mod."

But now when you look at it, hes put shitloads of work into it and hasnt had a GREAT deal of help so I think he deserves it.

Well done gaz!

Maybe he can use the cash to buy his fans some grammar.

This news just makes me happy :)

Don't think I will bother buying it, at least not soon. But this new version sounds great!

This'll be the best thing he's released since "Are Friends Electric?"!

Once again congrats to garry. Even tho i never spent more then 4 hours total with garrys mod ill be buying this. One to support him and Valve and im sure he made a good mod that i can play around with here and there.

lol Numan ftw!
In other news good look to the Newmanator - hopefully he has included a mandatory spelling test to access the game :frog:

$10 isn't much, but I rarely play it, so I guess I won't be getting it, I'll just stick with gmod 9 :)

Might get it depending on how big a download it is.

I am already planning a series of hydraulic sex machines - you brought this on yourself!

Heh.

The Facepunch forums are completely froze up and Steam won't even load.

EDIT: Every thing's back in order now and I'm downloading it as I type. Considering the amount of people downloading this, the download speeds aren't too bad.

All announcements say GMod is $9.95 yet Steam says it is $9.99 hmm

Garry's Mod Available Now

Garry's Mod, the popular software utility downloaded by hundreds of thousands to create mini-games and many of the most popular movie shorts on the Web, is now available via Steam. As a Source-based product is required to run Garry's Mod, a bundle including Garry's Mod plus Counter-Strike: Source is available for just $24.95. For those who already own a Source-based game, Garrys Mod may be purchased for just $9.95.

So says steampowered.com. Go go go!

I will not be getting this because for serveral reasons,

#1- I don't like the idea of paying for a mod.

#2- this isn't really a mod that is fun, its a different type of mod; posing ragdolls for comics & making you tube movies with em. I don't do that because I am not all that skilled with editing programs like that, I don't know how to SHEF or doing GODLY editing like major.dump does. Its a bit of a headache to do ragdolls, that isn't fun.

#3- They need to loose the "Garry" part out, think a bit more creative, like team garry come on? Thats something I would expect from the alpha version name, I personally would name it "Sand box mod" because thats what it is.

#4- I do NOT have credit card, if it came with EP2, TF2 & portal then yes I probably would get it.

Just my opinion, thats all.

I bought it, he deserves a donation, £5 is nothing but I don't think it's a big improvement over v9.

New interface (which is very awesome) and some new features but there are some annoying problems still left in, like if you put a pulley on a rotating rail, the pully doesn't move with it and just floats in mid air.

Hopefully these will be fixed but fun anyway.

I guess you never played Day of Defeat, Counterstrike, Ricochet, or even Team Fortress Classic, nor their Source variants, because all were either begun as a mod, or in TFC's case, based on a mod.

It's Garry's mod. It's an original, memorable name, and a huge one by now. I think it makes sense :O

Well if Desert Combat was called Franks' mod or if FH was called Lobo's mod would people complain? I know I would.

Bought it and played. It's really something. Everything is improved, including the GUI and how some things work.

And three words,

HOVER BALLS ROCK!
