God I dont know about you lot, why I dont hate file planet at all, I got a user there and can get pretty much any game download (mods, patches, demos, free trails) on the site at VERY fast speeds

Im not looking for replys, im not looking for flames, or even peoples honest opinion, I just wish people would stop dissing fileplanet to hell, most of the people who do, only do so to fit in with every else, SURE you have to pay (Pay shit all, anyone with a papper round can pay for it, geez) but they have EVERYTHING and a great speeds

Why should I pay to download something free like a demo? That's absurd, considering you can get the same demo from another site at the same speed but for free.

What really pisses me off is that they 'reserve' alot of these demos and call them 'exclusives', forcing people to subscribe if they want it that desperately. It's pathetic and arrogant.

I don't understand the problems people have with File Planet. The $6.95 a month is well worth it and I am always the first to have a major release or patch. I simply hate going through 100 different sites to find a download server that works and usually that download server is overloaded and slow as hell. Maybe I'm just lazy but I like to have everything in one place.

If you think that paying to download something when you can spend some time to find it for free is stupid then that is your opinion. However, calling a company gay simply because they charge you money to use their services (which cost 100s of thousands of dollars to maintain) then you look like an idiot, no offence.

Bittorren is great, however, it still has too many problems to take over the internet future. What pisses me off with it is I get downloads at 20 KB/s but I upload at 70 KB/s which puts my internet connection to a crawl.

Strong bad from your forums ) I agree bittorrent is cool, but right now it does not really have demos or patches, etc etc, only fansubs of anime, some movies and games, but once it catches on and people start to mod it to make it better (right now its abit sucky as people can turn there upload down so low there not shareing, thus everyone does this, thus its slow as hell, bastards.) then it will rule.

I have to say too Adom, that getting demos on there servers, then haveing them for sub download only, let me remind you that after afew weeks its free to download, theres very few thats stayed sub one, is a good way of makeing money, and also does give people who pay for it a good deal, getting demos early and for example getting 1st change to get on a mmorpg beta or something. I think called it " It's pathetic and arrogant." Is abit uncalled for.

This is a company, companies run promotions. To call it pathetic and arrogant is kind of arrogant in its own way. If you don't like it you can wait for the file to be released (usually a few days later) for everyone, if you want the game that bad you can pay for it. This is a choice you make and no one holds a gun to your head.

Fileplanet/Gamespy are idiots.

Don't they know for every file that they host, you can get it for free either at the offical game site, or another gaming webpage? All it takes is abit of searching. And they conviently put the full file name and extension in their info, so it makes searching on filemirrors much easier.

It's the same idea with gamespot... Ooh, don't even get me started.. I mean really, paying so you can look at screenshots and watch streaming videos? Please.

Actually, there are quite a lot of demo's and patches out there, you just need to find the right torrent sites. Like Filerush or a torrent search like this one. The client does need improvements though. Like some unofficial clients have implemented, a way to set your upload with a certain up vs down ratio (max 8KB up = max 24KB down etc.)
Prevents leeching and line-choking.

So it's okay for Fileplanet to offer large money to a company so that they can hog it for a few days and deny its access to its eager fans? Right. Offering games like Splinter Cell free when you buy an annual subscription is fine, but reserving eagerly-awaited demos is just not on.

Yes thats it, you hit it. That exactly what I was trying to say. I agree.

I can get exactly the same demo, files, vids,....etc all for free and for no waiting list at gamershell.com

I do sometimes download some demos from fileplanet because they have a UK server while gamershell got EU Aus and USA servers. (Speed Quality)

But Fileplanet is not slow, its sometimes anoying.:dozey:

I just recently got a user account simply because I can't be assed to queue any longer (or wait for it to say my download is ready). But $7 a month isn't going to break my bank account so I thought it was an acceptable outlay for the convenience. They have to generate money somehow to cover their bandwidth costs and straight advertizing isn't going to do it unfortunately. I still call them filewhore though :dozey:

I like Fileplanet, and I dont even have an account there. I almost always get a good speed on my downloads, but because of the lines I usually check elsewhere first. But most of the time either the lines are long everywhere else too, or the speeds are horrible.
That said, Bittorrent will hopefully be the future.

I enjoy fileplanet only because the majority of the mod files in the Day of Defeat community literaly, have no wait in line.

As far as demo's, I wait patiently--the services are very fast on my modems, and I rely more on gamespy for my Internet saftey then I would some random gaming server or heck, even the games own webpage.

i like gamespys website, they have nice articles and good writers, and fortunatly they dont (gamespot) force you to sign up, or pay for anything to read their filth.

fileplanet on the other hand is a good service, considering it caters to thousands of people at once - gamespy has to make money somehow particularly with the amount of files they have.

plus they dont jam ads down your throat.

Actually the idea is good, and they seem to have a good company plan. They need little advertisting to get a fair bit of money.

Yes, its perfectly fine. FP is a business and so are the game developers that sell their demos to FP so they have exclusive rights for a few days. Everyone is in this to make money, if FP offers enough of it to a game company they will take it. If you don't like it simply don't pay the fee and wait a few days to download the game when its available for free.

I can't be ****ed with file planet, it's packed with adverts, makes me log in everytime I want to use it (even though I'm not paying for it) and I can get the same files from 3Dgamers, filefront or even barrysworld.

Oh and bittorent is cool, but i hate the bastards that limit there upload for no reason. It's not like you even use your upload bandwidth that much when surfing the net and it doesn't affect your download speed on cable.

by using fileplanet, you're telling that company that they can bombard you with advertisements, make you log in, and charge you money just to get something a few days in advance.
