Hi I have just installed half life 2, the installation went fine but when I try to play it I get a "failed to set video mode. this game has a min req of directx 7 compatible hardware" message.
I have downloaded the latest updates for my card and installed directx 9.
What can I do?
Do I need a better graphics card.

My system is:
Pentium 2.8
512mb ram
nvidia geforce fx 5200 card

please help im dieing to play this game.

no, but it most certainly will help...also try reinstalling

one sec! right the most recent drivers you installed are conflicting with HL2. valve recommends you to install the most recent working drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_71.89.html

Just as a side note, don't expect good performances with that vid card. You should do ~45fps, medium/low settings, DX8.

Wait, it's AGP huh? If it's PCI then forget HL2...

My mate decided to get a PCI GF5700, even though I told him to steer clear away. In his little mind, he probably thought he got a PCI-e, how wrong would he be? (rectorical)
