So does anyone make "build me a pc" threads nowadays?

Input Video Compatibility Analog RGB, Digital
Connectors D-Sub, DVI-D
D-Sub 1
DVI 1
HDMI 1

You could use either HDMI or DVI, but normally HDMI is used for TV and stand alone disc players (like a blu ray player with remote..)

For a computer connection, you'll want to use DVI.

So it has a DVI cable coming out of the back, or what? What did you use to connect it to your last computer?

ummm....im not sure lol. i connected it same way as last monitor, with the blue connector.

Anddd just one thing before I hit the "Complete Order" button.

Can anyone answer my question about the DDR3 1333 and 1600 memory? My mobo can apparently OC to 2000/1600 and its standard is 1333. Should I buy the 1333 memory or the 1600? The difference is literally one dollar.....

Get the 1600. The only thing I was wondering about was triple channel. I7 supports it, I thought it was worth getting?

Blue would probably be VGA (old analog plug for CRT monitors).
As Virus has been saying, use the DVI (white, black...it comes in different colors).

Went with the Ripjaw series for its lower latency and only being 15 bucks more. I got the DDR3 1600 4gb(2x2gb) Ripjaw series. Timings: 7-8-7-24N

Computer has been ordered! I'll see you all on the dark side.

the 750, 860, and 870 use Dual Channel, not Triple Channel (again, these should have all been called i5 to make things easier)

all of the other i7 chips use Triple Channel.

This is not a situation where you can use either. 860 = dual channel, ShinRa

My internet is kinda acting up today, so you'll have to confirm this yourself if you want: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&source=hp&q=i7-860+dual+channel&aq=f&aqi=&oq=&fp=acc6f24378c0950b

EDIT: ops, didn't see that post above. Grats on your new computer.

Thanks. Am I missing out by not going triple channel?

No. I'd rather have the joy of putting it together myself.
And doing it the way you did it you know what brand of parts you got.

Yours will outperform that one because it's probably got a lesser video card - despite having the same model number, slower HDD? - less reliable and steady clean power supply, costs $20 more, slower RAM - yours is all cherry picked. But you can always cancel the order. I don't think there would be a restocking fee.

Study it and compare the differences.

Thanks. Am I missing out by not going triple channel?
No, because the 860 has the memory controller built in for a really good boost. So in the end, the triple seems to be only a couple percent (~3% I think) faster, albeit with more latency. You'd have to get the other socket/CPU to use triple. Course you'd have 6GB instead of 4, but I can run everything I would ever use for work and play at the same time and only use a 1/4 of my RAM. (1/3 in Win7) When it comes to games, I doubt anything could use more than 4GB for the next 2 or 3 years.

Honestly, I like the 750 a lot, it's often got some very slight speed advantages over some of them in many games, despite being the cheapest, though I am a bit jealous of the 860, because anything taking advantage of HT (including the rare game!) could be way faster than mine. D:

I hadn't heard about the 860 when I built mine. I don't think it was in stock either, on black friday (where I saved like $75 on my RAM/CPU/Motherboard) because I looked at all the i7 CPU's and they started at $550. There was no way in hell I'd pay that much for a slightly better CPU.

But I'm still happy, I saved money, and I upgraded from a CeleronD, so this is like phenomenal.

Haha thanks! And your cpu is awesome too. I did my research. I'm sticking to my purchase and putting it together myself. Idk how I'm gonna get my hands on win7 though. Guess I have to install xp first then upgrade. Is there a difference between that and just starting fresh with just win7?

Like I was saying, I think you're definitely going to want both, at least at first. (a few old games, hardware, and software MIGHT not work in W7 64 bit)

1) put your new hard drive in your old computer as a second hard drive (booting XP from your old HDD), create 3 (or 4 if you want) partitions on the new drive using XP Disk Management.

2) build your new PC and install only the new hard drive in it (at first). Put the XP install disc in your drive. Select one of the partitions from XP setup and install XP on it. Once it's installed set up your XP account.

3) Put the w7 disc in and install W7 64 bit on the next partition (do not select the "upgrade XP option") (again you will be able to select the partition from w7 setup).

4) that's it. Now when you boot your computer you will have a screen that lets you select the operating system. By default, it will give you 30 seconds to select the operating system, and the default if you don't make a choice will be to boot into Windows 7. You can modify this boot screen from within windows, to make it select XP, or to change the time limit.

So now you have both. Use w7 64 bit, but if you have a problem with an old game or something, you'll be able to use XP to play it. Some other advantages include being able to repair the other operating system if it were for some reason fail to boot. You can completely scan and repair malware from the other OS, you can replace damaged system files without Windows having a fit.

iiiiiiiiii have no sound on windows 7 -_-

im on my old comp though.....any way to get a sound driver for win7 to work?

You have on-board sound? Just install the chipset drivers for your motherboard.

If you look at the motherboard, the model number should be screenprinted on it. Or you can install CPU-Z and probably find out!

You may find them if you go to microsoft update instead of windows update.

this might be it: http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-US

Probably try the other options first. Actually, I take that back, use microsoft update first. That should offer drivers for your sound, ethernet, PCIe (if you have it), etc.

If your mobo is made by gigabyte, you would go to gigabyte's website to find the realtek sound drivers, for example.

Also, check in the BIOS and make sure that the onboard sound is enabled. It should be as default but it can't hurt to check just in case.

:)

Thanks guys. Still no luck. No worries though. I'm sure on the new comp itll work fine. I just have to deal with this for a couple weeks.

Ok so another question has popped into my mind. Do I need, or rather, will I receive any benefit, from buying a PHYS X card? I've been reading about people that using them it makes their games alot smoother when theirs intense calculations. Is it a necessity?

No, it's not. In most cases it does nothing. In the very rare cases that it does provide benefit the performance increase is minimal.

Well all the parts came! I'm sitting here with an i7 860, ati HD5850, 4gb ripjaw Gskill 1600 ram, 1tb hd, and all the other goodies. Guess what is NOT here? My ****ing case! Apparently, I never ordered one (bullshit) and now the one I want is conveniently out of stock.....

THAT... SUCKS...

Well, you lucked out. it's Monday night, you can have one in a few days if you order tonight. Don't wait a couple days, or you will have to wait through the weekend.

OH definitely....I'm just looking around at some options. Cases are tough to pick out.

In the meantime, just use some cardboard boxes. J/K That would be kind of a cool casemod though(putting cardboard on your case, not as the case)

I've always dreamed of having a nice wood finished case. If you're good with wood you should make your own. ;)

case should be metal, so that heat dissipates easily, and so that all components are grounded. You could make it out of wood, but it would require special care to make sure everything was well grounded and had proper cooling.

It would be very unwise to have a full wood case. The minimum would be a steel frame and mounting for all the hardware and the wood screwed into the frame. Like you said there's much to consider when doing that kind of a case mod...but it's so dang sexy!

I thought about having a wooden case once too, but it would definitely be really warm and with wood being an insulator... who knows what could happen. Probably something involving fire.
