Gears of War (X360) Discussion!

Nooooooooooo....

50 bucks a year is too demanding for you?! :(

You're letting down the potential of your $400 console.

Indeed, which reminds me i still have 2 accounts, i really should cancel one at some point :p

I hope BestBuy gets it today. My tv is coming on wednesday. Oh man....Its going to be INSANE! Ill post pics!

I have Gears Of War T-SHIRT from Microsoft.

:D

AWSOME shirt

From Gamesnob? Nice :p

Also, not sure if it's been mentioned yet - http://videogames.yahoo.com/gamereview?cid=1951037562&tab=reviews&page=0&eid=-1

Yahoo Games review, still reading but sounds good good good.

Edit - The jist of it from Yahoo: it's as awesome as it's been hyped up to be, and yes it is worth owning a 360 for. Shortcomings - short campaign (8 hours-ish), albeit very replayable, especially coop, and there are multiple difficulty levels. Otherwise great all the way through and doesn't drag at all. Also lacks variety in the multiplayer modes, of which there are 3 and they're all pretty much variations on last-man-standing team deathmatch it seems. Multi mode is otherwise excellento.

Here's the final paragraph -

Yahoo! Games said:
If you've been wondering why you lined up all night for an Xbox 360 this time last year, agonize no longer. This is the kind of game that sells systems, and if you have the merest action-loving bone in your body - and you can handle the gore, bad language, and short-ish play time -- it's pointless to resist. Gears of War is the best 360 game of 2006.

Aaaaand here's the Gamespot review (video review also up already, it seems) - http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/act...topslot;action;1&om_act=convert&click=topslot

Just started reading, but they seem equally impressed :)

The game's campaign tells the tale of a man named Marcus Fenix. He, like the other soldiers around him, is an extremely thick dude that very clearly doesn't have time to bleed.

...

Marcus is a former soldier for the Coalition of Organized Governments, or COG. Their soldiers wear ridiculously huge, bulky armor, but can't be bothered to wear helmets. They're just that tough. Or stupid.
Hahaha :D

Oh, damnit, I can't wait till the end of the month for this ;(

9.6? I smell hype and maybe pressure from MS. Anyhow , GS aren't the most reliable source.

Alright, so co-op really has me drooling over here now, except the part where if one person drops out the other has to, too. That fails. But otherwise, it looks very fun. I can't wait to get online with one of my mates and do stuff like flanking and getting split up un-intentionally and stuff. Awesome.

I know I am going to want to succumb to the pressure and get this and a 360 this week damnit!! I have been holding out for the price drop next year but I am going to be rather jealous of everyone's fun when I start hearing about how great it is! Ugh...decsions decisions...:(

LOL own3d, this game can be downloaded now @ your local p2p sites...

mouahahaha ;) it came out 57mins ago lol

Possibly, although recent footage and previews have been very promising.

If the single player, co-op and multiplayer are all of a decent standard then a score in the high 9's is well deserved. Few games get one part right, let alone the full package.

10/10 from 1up.com

1up isn't on anyone's payroll. They even said they had lots of issues with the game, but the good stuff simply overshadowed the bad.

Blimey! I've got alot of time for 1up these days, and tend to choose them over other online sites for games reviews. They know their stuff.

That score has gone and done it - rabid hype frenzy till the end of this month! (damn UK release dates!)

Damn, I'm surprised it's getting such high ratings. I'll wait and see what the gamers say about it though.

Just name "Half-Life" and he'll be over it like a lion spotting a fresh meat lying in the middle of a calm and empty desert.

I wish you could duck in more games and regain health. Castlevania and Rolling Thunder would've been a whole lot easier!

Oh, and insane mode looks to offer the same sort of challenge as Contra:Shattered Soldier, the previous best-looking and toughest arcade shooter.

'It's here that you truly realize what a masterpiece Epic has created in Gears of War. Yes, it's the most gorgeous looking game on the Xbox 360, period. Yes, the sound design is worthy of awards. Yes, the game is fun as hell. But playing with a friend, as you bark flanking orders into your headset over Live, or across the room during a system-link game, or right next to you in a split-screen campaign, you realize that Epic has created the 360 game we all hoped for, and that Gears of War more than lives up to the impossible hype.'

my wife and I were watching tv last night and that emo new commercial for GoW came on ..30 seconds in my wife says "wow that looks amazing" ...she hasnt played a video game since frogger ..I think that says quite a bit about GoW

still, I spit on GoW till they release it on PC cuz I'm not getting a 360 for one game :hmph:

I think that's the thing they're aiming for with Gears. It's a very "pick up and play" game that still has a lot of depth to it, gameplay wise, and a lot of skills to master. The fact that they're marketing the hell out of it doesn't seem to hurt it either, nor do the rave reviews. I'm still not super hyped, and I'm still only buying it for the graphics and cheesy one-liners.

heh, I can sense your resolve slowly wearing away. Take this! ...

'... you can use the melee attack to jam a frag in his chest, then roll away and watch your foe disintegrate -- simply awesome, if you don't blow yourself up in the process.'

/me runs away afraid of losing what little resolve I have

you read me like an open book warbie :E

...now if rtcw2 just so happened to become a 360 exclusive ......

Just name "Half-Life" and he'll be over it like a lion spotting a fresh meat lying in the middle of a calm and empty desert.
Or like an antlion flocking to a pheromone grenade lying in the middle of a calm and empty room...

... which just so happens to be protected by automated machine gun turrets?

Wow. It's one thing for a game to sell consoles. But for a game to make someone like Stern search for excuses to buy one... :E

hehe best marketing gimmick ever

"Our console is so good you'll be making excuses as to why you shouldnt buy it"

A console is only as good as its games and this one isn't that good yet...but it sure as hell is getting there!!!

Mind you, I have plenty of cash saved specifically for a next-gen system (or two), but I just don't want to get first-gen (read: potentially faulty) hardware and only 2 games until next Spring sometime. Safer to wait...also to wait for HDTV prices to come down even further. That way a supplememtal 27 or 32 incher will be nice and cheap (relatively at least).

That sounds far too sensible to be fun :)

Gametrailers peg it at 9.1.

They only cite controls, one unbalanced weapon, and replay value as issues.

whoa just whoa! i checked out the vid reviews at GS and GT, damn the game looks sweet! the chainsaw *drools*

i love how sprinting is done in the game, very cool!
*urge to buy 360 rising*
