Over, and over again I have been told two things: my Geforce 4 4200 Ti will run Half-life 2, or my Gf4 will not, or not that great. So ...I have yet to try it myself, for I had just bought a few new things for my computer, including a Athlon XP Mobile 2500+, which is said to be perfectly safe to OC'ing to 3200+ speeds, some new 512 ram and a new motherboard. Now, the question rises to get a new card, or not? I have had many different views on the matter, and well, I would like some more. Please inform me on your best guesses/nowledge.

It'll run hl2 fine at 1024x768 with small levels of aa on full settings. No problems. You'll miss one or two little dx9 shaders, but it's hard to tell. I have two comps, one with a 4200, and the 4200 is just fine.

i have a 2.26 intel, 512 ram, and a nvidia mx 440 128 mb. i play it at medium with 1024x768 resolution. your pc is way better than mine

Yeah it's amazing but the 4200 is still a pretty good card.

Your definately best keeping the Ti4200, for a little longer anyways.
I remember a review I saw on guru3d.com and theyput an overclocked Ti4200 against a FX 5600 Ultra, the Ultra was thrashed in every test and benchmark apart from 3dmark03 where the Ultra was 3 times the score of the Ti4200.

I had a 2000XP, 512mb Pc2100 "generic" ram and PNY 64mb Ti4200@ 295/595 and my in 3dmark2001 I got 9440 marks and in Aquamark 3, I got 38,000 or so, After Upgrading to my new rig, A Amd 64 - 3200 (newcastle), 1gb of Corsair XMS PC3200C2 and 128mb FX5900XT@480/850 my scores were only 18,990 on 3dmark 2k1 and 52,000 on Aquamark3.

Not the huge leap I was expecting.
The Ti4200 was definately the best card outta the Geforce4 range, it could easily out clock a 4400 and in some cases the Ti4600.

There is a guy over on the Futuremark forums whose Ti4200 is volt modded and custom biosed, and he has his at something silly like, 390/730 and he gets about 24k on 3dmark2k1.

Thats just mad, But considering I sold my Ti4200 for £30 back in June 2004, then he won't lose much if he fries it.

Coupled with 1GB RAM and a P4 2.6Ghz, I get a constant 30-50fps at 1024x768 with all the details at the highest - no AA or AF. I play at 1280x1024 though, full details, except I put shader detail to low (no bump-mapping) and it runs at a similar performance. HL2 kind of underestimated my card, the reccomended defaults where medium settings - but I bumped them all up with little difference. (this is in DX8.0/8.1)

My computer's a bit weird actually - it runs most games really really well - pretty much every game (minus Doom 3) can be ran at full settings at a decent resolution and run really great. When I put the same card in a different computer in my house which has similar specs it runs like shite. :p And as Oni said, to put it in perspective the Ti4200 is a hell of a lot better than the later generation Nvidia Card - the 5600 which came out quite a bit after.

Meh, as far as I'm concerned you should be fine. :)

Put 7.120 version of drivers on, Apparently that helps with the framerate alot. Friend gets over 80 fps constantly on CS:Source, no overclocking.

I play HL2 right now on a GeForce2 MX and it runs fine...sure it's DX7 graphics but w/e. I'm gettin my friend's GeForce 5600 in a few days so hopefully I'll see a lil jump in things.

the gf4 will run hl2 very smootly on low settings, and missing all but the dx7 stuff obviously. But very playable all the same.

(just upgraded to 9800pro)

I was using a 4600 ti. Runs fine, just turn all the fancy shyt down.

my geforce 4ti4200 runs hl2 quite well, on 1240x1024 with texture + models at medium, no shadows, low shaders.... etc

hi, ive got a question about my geforce 4
well, my freind used to play hl2 on his comp, he got a upgrade and i got all his old parts, i saw him playing hl2 so i went and bought it,i installed it and when i try to play any of the hl2 games it comes up with "This game has a minimum requirement of direct x 7 compatible hardware", i dont know what to do, coz my freind was playing on the excact same gcard, which is a geforce 4 mmx 440 pci, i think it 64mb

That's odd. I used to run it on a MMX440 perfectly well. Do you have DirectX installed? (just checking)

yeh, 9.0c
ive just installed the latest nvidia drivers, ill se how that goes
YES, it worked, it was the drivers that needed updateing, thanks for your help:upstare:

Holy **** I have an Intel 3.2, 1GB RAM, and X300 and my aquamark score is something like 17k (21k when overclocked)
