Ok with all the craziness of the PS3 I still have never gotten a PS2. I figure now is the best time to do so before they pull them off the shelves as it's on it's way out. It's only $130 for the new slim PS2 and a lot of the good games are now "greatest hits" which are like 20 bucks. There's a lot of games I want to play on it, FFX/X-2, MGS 1,2, and 3, Resident Evil 4, ect. So is it worth getting a PS2 now before they stop manufacturing new ones and with the cheap price?

Also I have an Xbox but I don't really play it anymore, would it be a good idea to sell it and the games for it, and maybe get a ps2 with that money.

The slim PS2 doesn't play all the games properly..best bet is to go with the bigger system.

It would make a bit more sense to go with the PS3 for about $400 more, but only if your budget allows it.

If not then absolutely, the PS2 is relatively cheap now and has tons of great games available (and a few more coming out soon).

Don't bother with a PS2, there are some great titles, but you can only play the same titles for so long until you're gonna want something new

Save up for something new-gen

On the other hand, you've got a lot of great titles to play. And with the 500 you need for the PS3, think how many games you can get for the ps2.

Wii + Gamecube controller = A hell of a lot more excellent games (just out of curiosity does anyone know if Beyond Good and Evil was on the gamecube? If so I might pick it up myself)

No.

Get a PS1, FFIX and FFVII, and a Wii.

The PS2 was worth my investment completely. Bought it about 4ish years ago...and I'm still using it. Alot of great games for it, especially guitar hero :p

I say get it...if you don't have the money for a next gen, then don't let "boring games *IE bad graphix*" stop you. People who rip on the PS2 confuse me...the system is fine, it's the games they don't like..why say the PS2 is shit? Odd people

I don't think there are enough good PS2 games to really justify buying it. I think if you want a dated console, get an N64.

Really? Not enough good games? I have to admit thats hard to see from my point of view. I've had all three of the last gen consoles for a while now, and my PS2 still gets a heck of a lot of play, especially due to Guitar Hero recently. Besides the Metal Gears and Final Fantasies, you've still got a system with a gigantic library of good games in just about every genre, and now most of them are cheap.

I would however, maybe hold of on buying one for a little bit. I wouldn't be surprised to see a final price drop with the PS3 here now, so they can move PS2s off the shelves.

Definately get a PS2. Games are still being made.

Ico + Shadow of the Colossus
GTA's
FF10, 12
GT4
MGS 2/3
SSX
Jak & Daxter

Plus, you could chip it *cough cough*. Or get swap discs instead.

A lot of it has to do with that I never particularly liked MGS :O

Thats just fine, but theres still not a shortage of good games for it. Its more just about making intelligent decisions over what you should buy than there simply not being any options.

Had PS1 and those Final Fantasy games, I beat FF7 twice. The Wii doesn't have enough good games to justify a purchase from me at the moment. A lot of the Wii launch titles got crap reviews such as red steel, one of my most anticipated games. Zelda's not enough to get me to spend $300 at this time..

As for the N64 comment, I had an N64 already and sold it. It had some great games but I'm not buying the system and old games over again. I'm not trying to buy a "dated" system either. The next-gen systems are too much money and/or don't have enough good games to justify the price ATM. The reason I was asking this is because a lot of good PS2 games are like $20 in stores and the system is relatively cheap.

Get one. There are too many good titles on the system to pass it up, unless you only stick to one genre, or you are an extreme graphics whore.

Aside from the ridiculous amount of triple A titles spread around, there's still a gem that's not yet released...

God of War 2!

:)

But yeah, gotta agree with smwScott, it'd make more sense IF you can afford a PS3 since it has backwards compatibility with the PS2, hence getting more future benefit from your investment. But, a PS2 alone is definately worth the purchase still, there's enough games to keep you company for a long time.

I'd recommend looking at a cube if you're short on cash.

There are lots of good games and the cube is very cheap atm.

What? I have a Slim PS2 and i've never had any problem with any game on it.

Zeus: Just buy any PS2. They're pretty damn cheap now and there are some amazing games on it.

Yeah, I regularly use both a slim and a fat PS2...never seen any difference except that the slim ones newer so it boots faster than my sketchy old one.

Ok I'm gonna get the PS2. And I know a friend who works at a game store where I can get a discount with it. Thanks
