GIs mistreating prisoners in Iraq. :(

I wrote a paper about how American media is improperly covering the war in Iraq, basically it comes down to there are way more violent/negative stories then anything else. Do a little bit of research on it and it is very obvious(or just watch the news).

This is really rather horrible. That's all I'll say.

I'm gonna try to stay out of this one, but I will say this...Why do you people whine,bitch,moan,etc.. about stuff like this? It's not gonna change your lives any.Your not gonna wake up on the wrong side of the bed or fix your dinner diffrently. If you obviously care so much about what the soliders did/are doing then why don't you got to iraq and protest it.

Heres a wake up call...thats war..it happens and will happen.Yes I do agree that what they did was very horrible and I hope they get punished for it, but you know what? I go on with my life and live.Bitching on this forum about how the U.S. goverment invaded iraq for oil or we didn't do that to free the iraqi people is not gonna change a damn thing what the u.s. goverment says or does.

So please stop with these threads that provoke anti-american semitism, because all they lead to is flame wars.Anyways peace guys and have a good day.

So Tron you dont care about anything that doesnt directly affect you, great.

Oh, and by the way, the war ended last year. Officially.

Some people try and have a discussion on world events, it doesnt matter what forum is used. I admit yeah some people just post anti-american comments, but that doesnt mean we should just not discuss it. Most of the people here are british (? I dunno) and we are involved aswell so I think we can talk about it.

It is horrible. I wouldn't try and trivialise it by saying that media coverage is biased. Whatever way you look at it its bad. We wouldn't stand for it in our countries so why stand for it in Iraq. To me one of the main best outcomes in going into Iraq (tho I admit unfortunately not the reason for going) was that the torture, execution and oppression of the Iraqi people by Saddam and his army. Now we are doing it I find very disgraceful and I wonder what culture there is in our armies in order for this type of behaviour to happen.

It makes me upset that others are so quick to jump and label American soldiers as cruel to Iraqis. The people who did this are a small group out of the 150,000 soldiers stationed in Iraq.
I'd like to think that most people have the sense to realise that. Although stupidity, as this instance shows, is shockingly rife. Some of those soldiers hadn't heard of the Geneva Convention.

Yeah, and not knowing of the Geneva Convention makes it all right if you torture someone. Talking about the soldier(s) who gave that as a reason here, not you (unless you agree with the guy of course)

What I think should be drilled into these guys is that (In the UK this is) while they have the right to kill in the war and in battle etc. They are still under British law and can be tried for murder and saying your a soilder has no bearing on what your sentance will be.

They seem to think that because they are in another country and are the controlling force that they have the right to do what they want. Its sick.

This is disgusting. Thanks to these morons who are going to sit in a safe jail cell mind you, more Iraqis' are going to get angered over this maybe to the point of taking up arms. Leading to the death of more Americans, more Iraqis', more British, and all the other coalition troops that are still involved.
They have put the entire military in an uncomfortable bad light now. I wonder if they have these same kind of guys running other prison facilities. Some of the detainees may even be innocent.
If anything like this happened to American troops, we would go on the offensive and drop a few bombs (and rightly so). Don't get upset if the insurgents do the same.

Things like that happen to American POWs all over the world, and we don't usually drop bombs, we rescue them.

Good job making us look bad, you assholes! :flame:
Trust me, the middle east already despises the U.S. Arab hatred of Americans is at all time high at the moment, that torturing of prisoners situation is just more more fuel to the fire.

To tell you the truth i'm not surprised it happened. People who join any military force are basically saying "Yes, I am willing to kill my fellow brothers when told.". If they are of that mindset it doesn't surprise me that they'd also torture and humilate people as well.

I wasn't meaning in the literal sense. I was saying we would go on the offensive.

I've just seen that the US decided to use an old Republican Guard general to solve Falluja..... They finnally agree with me.

Excuse me, I'm in the Navy.
I would never torture someone under my custody.

And, yes, I know the hatred is at an all time high. I didn't say we didn't look bad to the arab world before, but that this made things worse. Maybe you should have addressed everything I said, instead of picking out what you wanted to.

Why? Because we care. And do you think you're the only one who 'gets on with your life'? Everything you say here seems to imply that anyone else talking about this issue is an ignorant, sad and naive person who can't face reality. Maybe that's not what you meant but that's how it came across.

We're talking about this because we believe it's an important issue - perople talk about thigns and share opinions. What are you talking about, Tr0N, and why?

Hmmm... media tend to always have a certain point of view of things so that they can get more people to hate others wich leads to human terror... or something like that
