This is my first post on this site, and i'm very interested in what you all think of the gman, such as who he is and what he is, there is quite a bit of speculation on whether he's Gordon from the future or even a long lost relative,
but i want to know what you all reckon.

My theory is that the gman is working for the combine or even a combine leader or adviser himself, this comes from the facts that he has used Gordon to complete many tasks for the combine, although there are some breaking points in this theory, plz post your opinions and i'll gladly read and reply

Thanks ya'll!

I disagree with your concept of gman theories not being allowed, if they exist then in relative terms they are allowed! if you wish to make false rules, do them else where

Anyway, I have been watching Youtube videos on Gman theories many of them seem to have a possibility of being legit, check them out

My personal theory is that the g-man is an interdimentional mercinary/businessman who is working for his own gain. He's an alien, of course.

In HL he was hired by the Combine to open a breach, and to weaken Xen so that they could capture it, which he used the resonance cascade to do.

In HL2 he is working for the resistance/Vortigaunts to bring about the end of the Combine rule on Earth.

Post HL2 he was planning on hiring out Gordon's services and abandoning the conflict on Earth to resolve itself, until the Vortigaunts interveened. With the revelation of the Borealis the g-man has once again taken interest in the events on Earth, and is manipulating Alyx and Gordon for his own ends. He had nothing to do with Eli's fate.

Well, lets all debate these theroy's.

Where is Darsides' thread when you need it?

/me searches

Its here. But that's in the Episode 2 forum so I'm not sure if it still applies to Episode 3. I think it was made because of people getting excited when Episode 2 was nearing its release.

I love that little guy.

I agree with partial evidence of your theory riomhaire, but I think that Gman might have had something to do with Eli's fate, "Prepare for Unforseen Consequences" gives evidence that Gman knew and was hiding the information that Eli would die in the future? Althought It makes perfect sense that maybe Gman who can obviously tear time and space fabric some how, could know the future and just didn't want to let you know because you are now under protection from the Vorts. This also gives Gman a reason to kill Eli, he wants revenge?

Theres no gman theories there, just what you know about the gman and his association >.<

The Gman can't be Gordon, they look different and without the gman, gordon would have died at the end of HL2,

The bog standard theory is that g-man is gordon from the future, so he has come back to save himself.

This is of course absolute tosh, and has been discussed eleventy billion times.

I am aware of the discussion value of Gordon being Gman, was simply stating my PoV

Been looking around at a few different sites on Gman theories.
Quoted from IGN Boards "GMAN Theories" by IcedQue
I believe GMAN is somewhat neutral with his own intentions in mind. Some sort of interstellar traveler not bound by natural laws. He can appear anywhere to whomever he wishes to be seen by. Remember he basically 'bought' Gordon to do work for him, and places Gordon where he wishes.

He does not care about humanity, I believe he is using their world to concentrate the Combine into one location so he can either attack their home planet or destroy them on earth. The reason I see his lack of care for humanity is because he wants the Combines data packet to be sent off. Remember, it is the Vortigants who interfere and bring Alyx and Gordon to the Citadel to stabilize the reactor.

However, he seems to be concerned about the well-being of Gordon and Alyx. He wishes to protect them because they should be working for him, they are capable of amazing feats which he is not physically able to do (if he is physically able to do anything, I do not know). Gman puts Gordon into a stasis between HL1 and HL2, bringing him out when he is needed to fulfill his intentions.

This is only a theory, it is impossible to tell what is really going on and even with Ep3 I doubt things will be much clearer. And that is my favorite aspect about the HL series. You are seeing everything unfold from Gordons eyes, not from some third person view with a scrolling story telling you what happened and what will happen. It is up to you to theorize and create your own reasons and conclusions for the events that take place.

I think we should keep this thread alive for posting gman theories.Yes it sounds crazy but someone maby comes up with something good

Yes, we all know that the Gman isn't Gordon. I was only saying it because no one else had said yet and it was about time someone said it.

I also realise that everyone knows Gman isn't Gordon, it was a simple defense

I really prefer to view the G-Man as an ambiguous watcher, I don't care who he is. It really makes him feel like a much better character if we are always wondering who he is.

Yeah i agree, if he was to reveal himself it would take some of the mystery and eeryness? out of the game, I prefer the creepy gman appearing behind windows or doors or just out of bullet range and then disapearing into nothingness, but before he goes you waste an entire clip of ammo waiting for the possibility of 1 bullet hitting him and him dying

You know what my Gman theory is?
He doesn't teleport, he just rides a roflcopter.

You know that's better than all gman theories of all time ever.

I think Gman wouldn't know how to fly a roflcopter always holding that briefcase in 1 hand, i don't think he teleports really either more tears holes in dimensions and walks through =P

G-Man is Gordan Freeman.
It's the only logical hypothesis.

Roflcopter uber alles in der Welt! :cheese:

well, thx to them the Resistance is still alive... these ones helped them to survive in the first years... they r0x!!! ^^

pfft
isnt it obvious
its all going to be a dream and the gman is a teenage Gordons father telling him to 'wake up.. for school'
he also has a speech impediment hence the odd way of talking and Gordons apparent mute-ness is when the impediment was passed down but muted and prevented any form of speech at all.

Personally I'd rather speculate on more interesting questions like:
  • Are there factions within the Vortigaunt species?
  • Is the Vortigaunts' ability to shoot electricity purely a racial trait, or one enhanced by training?
  • Do Advisors worship a supreme being?
  • Are they innovative with their technology, or imitative?
  • What do the runes/glyphs/hieroglyphics around their collars mean?
  • How come headcrabs so suited for the role of zombifying humans? Is this an unintended consequence of attempting to parasitise the wrong host species?

I don't know if there are more interesting questions than the identity of the illusive and eery Gman, but yes there are many questions that you can bring up and many of those questions mentioned i would love to know myself but to be honest i believe the gman is the most interesting character in Half Life well Gman only second to Gordon but still Gman Identity FTW!
