She wasn't obviously in pain, in fact they took a scan of her brain, and the part of it which felt pain had died. So, she had no pain.

Also, she was on morphine. So even less chance she was in pain. But there was little to no chance of recovery.

The Pope is essentially the head of Christendom on Earth. He makes decisions and dictates the whole direction of the Catholic Church.

Pope John Paul II in particular has had dramatic impacts on religion and world events on the planet during the past 25 years.
