Well I just bought a Nintendo 64, 2 controllers, and several games off ebay for $60. I have emulators and ROMs and whatnot but they aren't comparable to actually using the system. I'm bringing in some of my old cartridges and controllers from home as well so I'm on my way to having everything I need for N64 :)

I'm trying to compile a list of the MUST-HAVE N64 games so that I can procure and play them.

So far, I own these and would put them on that list:
- Perfect Dark
- Goldeneye
- Wave Race 64
- Turok 2
- Super Smash Bros
- Mario Kart 64
- Donkey Kong 64
- Mario Tennis
- Super Mario 64
- Starfox 64
- Zelda: Ocarina of Time
- Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
- Star Wars: Ep 1 Racer
- Diddy Kong Racing
- NFL Blitz
(I have a ton of other games at home but these are the classics)

I don't own but am planning to get these, which I've heard/know are great:
- Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire
- Harvest Moon 64
- Resident Evil 2
- Banjo-Kazooie
- Banjo-Tooie
- Excitebike 64
- Cruis'n USA
- 1080 Snowboarding
- Conker's Bad Fur Day

Anybody have any additions? Feel free to use this thread to reminisce about any of the PHENOMENALLY AWESOME games mentioned. It's been a decade or more since most of these games were released and I'm still a huge fan (my friends and I play Mario Kart religiously).

Rogue Squadron was awesome. I can still remember the code to change one of the ships into a flying automobile!

I thought Donkey Kong 64 sucked, tbh.

What about the Mario Party series?

The really great thing about this system is that pretty much everyone in the 17-25 age range right now played it religiously as a child, and we all played the same games.

edit: Vegeta, you horrible blaspheme, that is one of my favorite N64 games ever.

Banjo-Kazooie was fan-****ing-tastic.

conkers bad fur day. an absolute (cult) classic.

Does anyone know if EB Games or Gamestop sells used 64 cartridges anymore? I think I remember seeing a couple in there last time I was in one (probably six months ago), but I'm not sure.

Yes.

I would also add the game WinBack. It wasnt nearly as popular as any of the other games, but I ****in loved it. Its story was great great great, and it had some pretty innovative gameplay features.

Other than that, I agree 100% with every single item on your list... and expect a visit from me sometime in the near future

Last I checked there was a few games at EB. But the last time I went to EB was for STALKER, and I just went in and out, without looking at anything else. Gamestop had a shitload of games last I went there though, and I doubt they got rid of them all since old-school seems to be one of their 'things'.

Oh, I had a friend who was NUTS about WinBack. I think I played it once or twice at his house, I can't remember if I liked it or not. There was a PS2 version as well iirc, around the time of PS2's launch.

I'd love it if you come visit me, anytime any of you are passing thru central NC you're welcome to come get your ass kicked at any of those games (except SSB which I will forever suck at).

Veg, never had the patience for Mario Party really.

I rule smash bros, so I guess that evens us out.

These should be on your list:
Jet Force Gemini
Gex

seriously underrated games.

EDIT:

Don't forget vigilante 8!

Jet Force Gemini was awesome. Multiplayer was a blast.

Jet Force Gemini was amazing. Everything Rare did on the N64 was perfect.

Jet Force and Conker's for ultimate gorefests and over the top gung-ho-erry (?) Man, the MP on Conker's was awesome with bots.

I'm also possibly craigslisting an old SNES, for even more excitement. All I need are all of the Donkey Kong Country games, Super Mario Allstars, and Porky Pig's Haunted Holiday (the last one obviously has some good memories).

I played RE2 on Playstation. Leon's version is better, but both kick all kinds of ass anyways. I love that damn game.

I think the N64 version is identical.

What is Gex?

Zelda: Majora's Mask?

Haven't played it myself, but it was a friend's favourite on the system and is usually highly rated.

I always secretly wished my parents got us an N64 instead of a Playstation :p

Edit - Gex on the PSX ****ing owned. Platformer where you enter into multiple "dimensions" all based on different TV station themes. Cowboy, space, kung fu, haunted house, even a looney tunes type level with pianos falling from the sky... you name it.

Banjo Tooie and Banjo Kazooie are just AWESOME. Get them IMMEDIATELLY! EVERY SECOND COUNTS!

Yeah, its a platformer with a gecko who enters into TV shows.

Its annoyingly difficult, but pretty fun.

Oh, and I forgot to mention:
SPACE STATION SILICON VALLEY

That game was so fun! It was put out by rockstar, basically GTA with the bodies of animals.

EDIT:
If you're getting an SNES, don't forget Zelda 3. It was the best 2d zelda, in my opinion.

Blast Corps
San Francisco Rush
Mission:Impossible
Shadow Man
Turok 1 and 2

Its always good to go back to the old Systems. Get Star ars: Shadows of the Empire.

See how that's first on my list of games to get :D I rented and borrowed that game several times but I never bought it, which I regret because it was awesome.

This thread makes me <3 my emulator. brb playing banjo Kazooie

Kirby 64.

Other than SSB, and Ocarina of Time, this was my absolute favourite game. Best Kirby game made IMO.

No one has said Ogre Battle 64? Ok then, Ogre Battle 64. One of the best games for the 64 in my opinion. Be prepared to pay an arm and a leg for it though.

JFG, Winback, Hybrid Heaven, Extreme G, Kirby 64 (SO MUCH), Majora's Mask, Rush, Twisted Edge: Extreme Snowboarding, MYSTICAL NINJA STARRING GOEMON... hmm, I need time to recall more.

Or maybe my friends and I were too busy playing Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark to bother with a turn-based puzzle game. I do have it, I just didn't play it often.

Your list lacks Mischief Makers. Subsequent replies did not advise you that your list lacked Mischief Makers. It is therefore my duty to inform you that YOU MUST PURCHASE MISCHIEF MAKERS.

Shake. Shake, shake. Shake, shake, shake, throw!

Also, Pilotwings. And Paper Mario. And F-Zero X. WHY haven't these been mentioned yet?

And buy Killer Instinct, because ffs, KI is linked to N64's development. "Available for your home in 1995, only on Nintendo's Ultra 64." So, you have to buy it, because it's what the system was meant for.

Mission:Impossible
Shadow Man
Turok 1 and 2
Oh. Yes.

Unfortunately, I can only agree with the rest of this mad bunch, rather than offer suggestions. However, apart from the obvious titles, I can't recommend Shadowman highly enough.

Awesome, awesome game.

You have to try out "Buck Bumble." One of my favorites, and a very little known game. It's a third person perspective flying game. Since you're a bee it's kind of like flying a helicopter. The controls are awesome. You're a little bee with guns and you fly around gardens and sewers killing other bugs and collecting items. The playability is awesome. Going back and playing it is still fun, but the draw distance is my only gripe. It's a little short.

Star Wars: Shadows of the empire...amazing game make sure you get that one. Yeah the 64 was a fun system..super mario 64 was superb (best mario ever). Star Fox as well.. "Do a barrel roll!"

Banjo Kazooie is a must. Shadows of the Empire is kinda fun, but really not that great a game. But nothing can make up for that awesome sensation when you shoot a guy off a cliff and hear that classic scream.

I forgot how fun Mario Kart 64 can be. Whenever me and my bro or my friends smoke up, it's usually the first thing we load up and play.

Mario 64
Golden Eye
Perfect Dark
Zelda OoT
Zelda MM
Pilot Wings
1080
Wave Race
F-Zero
Star Fox/Lylat wars
Sin and Punishment
No Mercy
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Kart 64
Jet Force Gemini
Super Smash Brothers
Blast Corps
Banjo-Tooie
Banjo-Kazooie
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Donkey Kong 64
Mario Golf
Mario Tennis
Paper Mario

To use the common vernacular - so much ****ing win.

omg Wave Race...

I remember renting that game every week.
