Gold Rush Update is Now Available

Goldrush = super fun!
and all the teams are like 1 scout 1 soldier 1 demo 2 heavies 6 medics :D

I tried playing this last night, but alas, I crashed 5 times while trying to join a server, or play the map. I couldn't fully enjoy it, but from the 5 minutes I was actually able to play, the map is hella fun, and lots of medics makes my Heavy happy!

Since when have players needed a reward to attempt achievements? Many should arise in just average gameplay - it's when you have a lot of people trying to do obscure or non-teamplay achievements that things go bad.

I see what you're saying, but the rewards I meant would even be the ability to show that you earned the achievement in a "legit" way, which isn't possible right now because of console commands.

If the command just released the weapons I agree it would be all good, but right now there is no point to even achieving achievements.

I guess I'm just craving a FPSRPG lol, so im in the mindset of wanting everyone to really have to earn the weapons the hard way; BUT, there was a good idea on the steam forums to have the achievements unlock cosmetic items like new clothes "bloody apron" or models. I think that would be the best solution because you can still show that you earned the achievements in game, but the earning of achievements isn't directly tied to the new weapons or affecting gameplay. Then they could release the weapons to everyone also. What do ya think?

Also why is everyone complaining about so many medics playing? I mean, yeah its annoying FOR NOW... But, if all classes had unlockables released at once it wouldn't be an issue and eventually they will all be released and it wont be an issue, so it's pointless to complain about as only time and the rest of the releases will fix it... ;)

Valve knows the legit achievements from the console'd ones. It's only a matter of time before the records are set straight.

I like it in theory, but I think it would only lessen the problem slightly - they would be status symbols, which the new weapons partly were anyway and people would still be willing to do the same things to get them.

While the number of medics was annoying (and will be again once Valve fixes things), I'm more concerned with the quality of play. I don't want the tide of a battle turned because a Medic and his Heavy friend think it's a good idea to uber and try punching people to get the achievement - fun for them annoying for the rest of us.

Valve should follow the CoD4 route with achievements and unlocks, like so:

You need 3000 points per weapon, every achievement nets you 250 points, so 12 achievements = still a weapon. But points scored in games also help you reach your goal, simply by adding your score to the points you have (plus perhaps some bonus for stuff you did that helped your team, like win the game or cap a flag). That way it's possible for everyone to get the new content, just the skillful people get it faster. I know I'll never kill 20 people with a Heavy, which means I'll never see the Ubersaw, without cheesing the achievements. I don't think achiements should be a requirement for getting new content.

Goldrush is just pure fun :D
Medic Achievements will take me some while, if there's already 5 Medics on our team I'm sure not number 6. But great update finally :D

Good map, but would enjoy it alot more if I knew my way around.

Anyone else annoyed at the big red/blue box you get at the start of the round explaining what you have to do? I wouldn't mind if it was there for like 3 seconds, but it seemed to go on for a lot longer than that :|

Btw, new update which resets peoples achievements (the people who used console command).

Great map but I feel like the cart moves a little too fast sometimes. Maybe it's just getting used to it, but it seems so now.

The ridiculous medic ammount is dying down, atleast gradually.

I have 7 achievements so far, and I don't think I'll be able to get to 24 without the console command.

You will if I'm your heavy ;)

God. I hate TF2 at the moment. Might as well repackage it, remove all the other classes and call it Medic Fortress 2 - Grind some moar!

This.

In fact, the more I think about achievements being tied to unlockables, the more I'm irritated by it.

question- will this be on the 360/PS3 versions of the Orange Box as well?

There was an update just released that removed the commands.

Agreed, although I also think just giving out the weapons is a valid option too. The real kicker is that the new weapons aren't that much better than the old ones (in fact I think there is a strong argument that the Kritzkreg isn't as good as the usual one).

D:

It isn't the case. Valve only remembers the what old achievements you did have. I used the command and after the update I am now left with no medics achievements (but I did earn 7-8 achievements before using the command).

Bah, after spending a night with the unlockables, I think they are pretty meh, except maybe the syringe gun that steals health, but standard loadout is better in my opinion.

Valve should really consider releasing all the achievements for the other classes as a big pack. If they release one by one there will be a lot of class stacking and really... it is destroying the games.
Having a lot of medics is not that bad... but I fear the time when the sniper's or engineer's achievements are released D:.

Edit: with the command I had also won that old achievement that said play with 8 friends on your team and it is still there. That means valve has just reset the medic achievements for the ones that used the command.

TBH the unlockables made playing the medic and thus trying to get his achievements a lot more fun.
Right now I'm still going to try to get some, but overall it just isn't worth it.

The achievements are a little too hard imo, some are more about having luck than skill and some are just very frustrating and work against the gameplay(teamplay).

I dont think Im a bad player, but the way they are now Im never going to get the new weapons.

Medic achievements have ruined some games for me.

Sometimes at the beginning of the round, everything is fine, but eventually you get like 6 medics on your team, hardly anyone is on offense, just a bunch of ****ing medics running around.

If Valve continues releasing achievements one character at a time, it will be the same situation every time a new character's achievements are released. They should've just waited and released ALL of them when they are all done.
