Golden Eye vs Half Life

Golden Eye all the way, half-life doesn't come even close.

The thing that redeems console games from being mediocre compared to PC games is being able to play while sitting next to your buddies.


It makes a game like halo or goldeneye seem 10x better than they are.

That doesn't make sense.

Plus it doesn't explain why single player Golden Eye is obviously better than most PC first person shooters (the reason this is a HL v GE thread is because HL is the only pc shooter that I feel can even compete)

Goldeneye was good but the console was a limiting factor, also I can't see any good mods being made with it's engine. So my vote goes to halflife.

I liked Goldeneye alot. I loved the multiplayer portions more than HL. Something about watching your friends face as he realized he just walked into a Proxy mine field.

Goldeneye probably loses a few points because of all the eyestrain it gave me.

goldeneye was one of the best mutiplayer games ever, and singleplayer was great too....perfect dark was good, but the level design just wasnt as good as in goldeneye.

Im not sure how to say this in a differant way so ill try anyway.

For me. Half the fun of a console or any game on a console is sitting next to your bud having a good time. Thats the only reason I even own a console anymore. Goldeneye was good, halo was good. But they were a hell of alot more fun with other people around i.e. multiplyer. For a pc 999 times out of 1000 you are by yourself sitting at your desk.

And yes using realtime voice communication greatly enhances PC games for me...... I never realised just how incredible BF42 could be untill i started playing in a large and very organsied tourney. Bf42 is an awsome game .....but when i joined the tourney it took it to another level.

I think with halo and goldeneye people base there opinions off the experiance of playing it with there buds....and that enhances the games ALOT. Making them seem better than they might normally.

I see your point - and agree to an extent.

There are many multiplayer console games that are dire :/ While having mates in the same room certainly enhanced the multiplayer of GE, it still takes a game of great quality to be loved by so many, for so long.

Also, at the risk of repeating myself, I personally enjoyed the single player aspect of the game as much as the multiplayer. Not many games have such a solid single and multiplayer experience.

I picked half life. Goldeneye was very good, infact, the only good game N64's had to offer (imo) and the multiplayer with a few mates was ****ing ace! i loved hiding watching my mate run into my proxy mines :cheese:

Me thinks ppl who havn't even played Golden Eye are voting for Half Life

So let's say 20 ppl have done that, and 7 tried GE but couldn't control their thumbs properly XD, being rubbish at the game as a result. In frustration they unjustly blame GE's controls. If we minus all these votes we get a realistic number , which puts Golden Eye in the lead by one!

Anyone who votes from now on also falls into one of these 2 categories (unless it's a vote for GE of course) which means GE can't lose! woohoo \o/

Well considering i still play goldeneye more than HL...goldeneye, it was such a good game

HL was revolutionary. It brought new ideas into game design for FPS's.
GoldenEye was plain FPS done well (like Call of Duty today).
I think people are going by how fun the game is (it's fun to play old levels again and again but HL didn't have set levels...) and not really caring about any other aspect... but then again maybe fun is all that matters in a game... like a toy.

That's complete rubbish

Golden Eye is arguably as good as any pc shooter imo (hence this thread) I'm not a console fan boy, just a first person shooter fan - having played virtually every fps to come out on any system (including the pc)

If you want medicre shooters try COD, MOHaa, JK series etc etc. These can only appear as quality titles if they compare well against games you've experienced before (i.e other average shooters)


(I actually prefer Perfect Dark too Mechagodzilla ........ god knows how long I spent on the shooting range earning every weapon That alone was more fun than most recent shooters :/)

I would have to go with Half Life because of how imersive the single player experience was. While Goldeneye was and is one of my favorite console games (and still has one of the best multiplayers ever), I always felt detached in single player. Perfect Dark on the other hand is ranked right up alongside of Half Life in terms of single players, but ahead of it in mp.

I heard about this game a few months ago, it is an abomination!!, and made by EA ffs. They really have stooped to a new low by trying to cash in on the original Golden Eye's fame. The sad thing is, it'll probably sell loads (just as all their other rubbish bond titles have "look at the gfx"!!11 :/)

Actually, although Rogue Agent's only relation to Goldeneye is the name it still looks damn promising. Just the idea of playing as the Bond villian is awesome, an I do have hope for that game.
Oh yeah, I forgot EA is teh suxxors and has never made a good game EVAAAR!!!!1

Unbeliever!! I also disagree with you. Both titles are going to go down in history and all time classics, both in the eyes of their fans and the games industry alike (while the COD'S, Far Cry's and Max Payne's of this world will slowly gather dust and be forgotten)

This is as valid as any other game vs game thread imo - especially considering the nature of this forum and the unexpected results. I was honestly predicting something like 80-3 in favour of HL What a testement to GE's greatness \o/

Yeah played them both, mario 64 was alright, zelda isnt my type of game...it just didnt push any buttons...im a finatic final fantasy fan and any RPG type game doesnt come close to cutting my expectations of an RPG after playing all FF's.

IMO Half-Life is the best PC shooter ever, and Goldeneye is the best console shooter ever
