What does it mean when its "gone gold"? Is that just saying there wont be any more delays?

Hahaha, that's one way of looking at it, yes. ;)

"Gone Gold" means development of the game (as it will appear initially in stores) is completely finished, and then the game moves to manufacturing and shipping.

It means that the publisher and developer are both happy with the game, and it is ready for mass production.

it means theres about 2 or 3 weeks before you will be playing the game.

It means that the game is finalized as much as its going to be, and they are going to send it off to have the information stamped into all the millions of CD's and put into boxes etc. All changes will come after the game is released.

It also means its time to start thinking of HL³ ...WOOOT

It means you can stop convulsing in the corner ;)

They are all right, but really it just means the code is finalized, no more changes etc etc

With all these binks coming out. I bet that the DAMN pre-load is delayed.

Binks are a damn coverup to appease the public. If the game doesn't pre-load soon it isn't gold. If the game doesn't pre-load today get ready for a long and annoying wait.

I have a really really bad feeling about these new binks.

But didn't Valve say that they were going to release more videos once the game was getting close to going gold or was that last year?? :) Anyway take solice in the fact that they have released the CS:S beta so that is a good sign all by itself. I don't think we will have much longer to wait.

No. They said they wouldn't release anymore binks because they had tons of work to do. If the game doesn't pre-load today the binks would be their coverup.

not always, i believe Max payne (2) was a lot faster than 2-3 weeks.

Excuse my bad english:

doesn't gold mean the game has sold more than a sertain amount of copy's??

pre-order's = +100.000 or something??

before warcraft3 realesed.. thay said that the preorders gone gold..

and when it's rated.. only then it can go gold... ( beacuse it's finished and ready for realese )

Well if they were smart they would have had all the boxes made by now so all they have to do is make teh cd's. And what if they dont have t tell us its gone gold......that would be super!

Maybe what you are thinking is platinum? I'm not sure what that is myself, but i'm pretty sure that when a game has gone gold it means that the game is finalized, approved by both the developer and publisher, and is ready to be copied for distribution.

its often about a week. UT2003 went gold and was in stores 6 days later.

Also the reason it's called gold is because the game maker Burns the game to a Rewritable. They often are gold tinged CDs. This is the master CD that will be sent to get stamped for retail distribution.

When the game is more than one CD they send duplicates of their CDs.
