I like it better this way.
 
Well since they're gone how about moving the rank over to where the post counts were. The space feels empty with out something there.
 
Call me elite ist or whatever but post counts where good.

If i read something like "half life 2 news" and it was posted by a guy with less than 10 posts i knew to just close that window.

and ive been here for over a year and i still havent got a clue about the rank levels.
 
Well, I had a fairly low post count compared to the time I joined. I had about 70 odd posts last time I looked.
I do hope it will prevent at least a bit of spammery. (mind the people who post - for postings sake... will still post no doubt)
i guess it's a good thing that it's gone.
 
Has it to do with server issues? Removing features like this releases valuable processing powers. Forums I've been on before which have deleted the post-count system usually go down-hill from there for some reason ;(

Edit: Strangely enough I still know who I like here & who I don't. Incidentally (sp?) the people I respect are the ones with higher post-counts than myself. Weird huh? :D Post-count are teh status :thumbs:

Maybe it's people like me that spammers try to gain respect from? How silly.
 
boo. I liked postcounts. I didn't like it when they got rid of them last time and I liked it when they brought them back and I didn't like it when they got rid of them now and I'll like it when they bring them back again? huh? please?

Quoted for obivous truth, I only cared for that, now you have no idea who is new or who isen't , I'll just have ro remember the old guy around now.
 
Instead of doing this, you should have banned for people first, I agree there were a lot of spammers, specially from older members, but banning was better than this.

No post counts=Easier job for moderators.
Post counts are the reason why people spam sometimes.
 
I think The Dark Elf has the most posts at 9200-something. He won't be a strider cause he's staff though....

Post counts are just a convenient way for spammers to see how their "progress" is going.

I don't really like this but then again its happened before and I got used to it so meh.

Wrong move in my book. You gain respect, most of the time, the higher the post count you know that they are known here, and aren't a newbie.

:thumbs: Since we all use the post counter as one of the indications to find out if someone is a spammer. I.E. 10,000 within a month per say. Without this, everyone can put up some spam ass shit without anybody knowing. But then again the counter is still in your profile. As long as ranks isn't stopped, then okay.
 
50/50 chance it might... you guys @ hl2.net will have to do a survey of the daily # of posts made before and after you guys took away post counts but it would be a little flawed. (like if there was big news a lot of people would post)
 
Of course it wont.. but HL2.net admins are hoping they can stem some...

Bit hard for new members to know if there is no reference point. They will know only once they advance a level. There is no reference point to differentiate a hydra from a combine soldier.

I don't care about the post counts - they always seemed to encourage elitism. Posts should be judged by their content, not by how many you have made. Even a hydra can make a shit post every now and then, but doesn't cop the flak because of their rank.

Man, now i have to remember the ranks, great...
Maybe someone can put up a cribsheet of those somewhere, i hate remembering them for every forum i go to.

I also miss the warm and fuzzy feeling i had when i looked at my post count, and remembered this is the most posts i've made anywhere. I think i'll miss that the most.
