Goodbye, postcounts!

I think post counts, join dates and titles are all equally useless. They only serve to divide users into artificial classes that have no meaning.

Dont worry the rest will go once the whole hate a headcrab thing starts up again.

I don't really give a rats ass about having postcounts or not. Or the rank name thingie. But I wouldnt mind keeping the join date. :)

Feels nice to know i have been here a while. :p

Yeah, the join date can be useful to identify if someone is a longtime member or new. It's nice to have some way of telling whether someone joined yesterday or has been around for a year.
Postcounts or ranks don't interest me.

AFAIK, there's still two ways of seeing the post count.

1. The Members list.
2. By clicking on "View Public Profile" when clicking on a user's name.

I say we remove the ranks, then the join dates, when people ease into it (stop bitching) we remove the avatars then their names. Names and avatars prejudice people into what to think about others!!

After that is done we stop writing with the alphabet because people can be hostile to those who aren't the best writer.

Once HL2.net has you there is no escape.

its the reason for my excelent grades. Without halflife2.net I would of never gotten an A in science, I learned from this site how to make up stuff and people will still believe you!

I feel indiffrent. I'll feel angry if titles or join dates are removed.

I'm glad they're finally gone :)
This won't eliminate spam, obviously, but it will certainly reduce it. No more "w00t, 50th post!" posts, and hopefully less posts made by people simply trying to reach the next multiple of 100, who don't actually have anything valuable to say.

after seeing what went on in Off Topic, i dunno if taking away post counts was a good idea..
i think Mully.. or was it Canadian who suggested pple spamming more because they didn't have the fear of a post count staring at everyone.

anyway.. not my problem.. thank god i am not part of the staff here.

Yep, it was me... :D

I have a theory as to why this is happenning, and that is...

...Ever since the post counts were removed, people have been using this as a way to spam without consiquence. A good majority of the users are now posting without thinking (creating problems such as those discussed in this thread) and as a result, this highly respected forum is now sliding downward into the depths of all the other forums out there.
It's not pretty.

Makes sense when you think about it. Icarus is currently on a banning spree to try and fix things to the way they were before, but I think bringing post counts back wouldn't hurt...

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it", as the old saying goes.

I'm not in favor of this.
Neither am I. Why did halflife2.net decide to do this? I find it to be a bad move. There is no logical or explicative reason for this. Why did the post counts need to be removed?! I believe they should be visible for all to see by any member.

Not in favor of this. I'm obviously not a post-hound. Just look how long I've been here and what my postcount is... wait - you can't!. But I think the postcount was useful because it helped identify new people and therefore helped you to deal with them. If someone asked a silly question you looked at their postcount and cut them a little slack because they are new. Now you can't sort the idiots from the newbies.

Bad Move.

I agree... bring them back :(

This is also good, so no one's opinion is takin in differently because of their post count.

I've no idea, only just noticed it.

No biggy.
Haha, you only say that cuz you have the most here

I just liked it when they weren't around, because it drew the line between spam for postcounts and fun, since postcount didn't matter any more. :(

It doesn't look quite so empty up there in the corner any more. The join date, and the cute msn-dude are all worked up for a reunion threesome now..

it'd ****ing be better if they made up their mind...

i was just getting used to there being none.

Ahhh, they are back, the finally understood, that the post count is no reason for spaming.

well is it harder to spam when theres a post count that stares everyone right in the face.. so yeah.. spammers would be caught easier.
anyway thats the theory Canadian and myself believe in.

damn you.... just as we memorise all the names like prowler and antlion, you bring back the post count, wasting all that time i spent memoprising them! those hours, wasted!

im presuming veryone else memorised them too? :)

It just goes to prove, you can please some of the people all of the time, but you'll always have someone bitchin about how you did wrong!

PS: I'm glad they're back :)
