Google Chrome launching tomorrow

Yes. After you sort out the pain of the bookmarks thing, it's pretty good. I must admit I'm sold on it completely.

For me, I'm not sold on it completely. It definitely has some work to do in the features area, but if you're looking for only a web browser, with minimal feature fluff (no theme support for now, probably minimal plugins out there now, no RSS support, etc), then Chrome is probably something you want.

Personally, I'll still be using IE8 until Chrome can get its feature set up.

Frankly I'd avoid the whole thing. It's nice but we don't need another bloody browser.

Luckily we have the concept of Choice!

Competition only spurs innovation.

I mean think about it. Chrome is amazingly fast at Javascript. Surely all of the other browser makers are talking about how to improve their own versions. Without Chrome, that conversation may have not gotten started (notice I say 'may', but FF 3.1 was still planning on improving JScript in the first place).

On top of that, all of these browsers are now close to standards complaint (Chrome, IE8, FF). That means, web developers don't have to worry about coding specially for specific browsers anymore, and so a user won't have to worry that in Browser X won't work, and merely focus on the browser's features and performance and decide for yourself.

*Edit* Oh, and the lack of middle mouse button used in browsing is a crime.

They already had their own browser. Its called Firefox. That got too bloated and slow, they thought the IE8 tab isolation shit was cool, so they grabbed WebKit and wrote another browser.

It doesn't change the fact that Web Applications are a huge bunch of bloaty javascript bullshit. Java, .Net and Flash are there for a reason. Thick clients in js has always been a stupid arse idea.
