Graphics Card Update?

Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 2 always tell me to "Update my graphics card for optimal performance" does this update even do anything? And if it does, will it screw up my computer for gaming? please tell me!

no it wont kill your computer, its just saying that besause it doesnt meet the lowest standards, and by updating it means get a newer and better one

I think he's probably referring to messages which tell him to update his drivers.

might give you a fps boost, or 2 with the newer drivers.

upgrading your drivers usually increases compatibility with stuff if your running old ones. for example if i play HL2 with my old drivers i get awful performance. the news drivers gave me a great fps boost. on my old pc anyway

when that was happening to me with steam i got a gforce 6200 for $72 and it solved that problem, so meh whatever fixs your problem

Unless you want to completely negate the FPS increase, no. You'll generally want to keep an absolute minimum of 30fps if you want your game to look as good as possible, yet still be able to play the game respectably. If you turn your graphics settings up after you update your drivers, you'll end up with the same poor performance, only it'll look slightly prettier.

No, my game runs perfectly smoothly right now, I wanna turn the terrain graphics up on BF2, My game looks like crap, the textures are the only good things, i want to make the world look better..

The textures are one of the most important parts of the quality of the game. If there's a cube painted with a good building texture, you don't see the cube. You see a building.

I just say increase your texture quality (If you still can).

You Think like me Texture is the most important, and on BF2 my texture is on high (Highest it can go), also I tried updating my driver and it says that "windows strongly recommends you do not continue installing this or it may F*ck up your GFX card"

So, Do I Anyways? What will it do?

Update you're drivers, and youll be fine. nothing will break. XP just gives that warning as a liability issue.
Bf2 isn't going to look any better with that video card anyway.
Save $150 and get a cheap 6600gt.
