The first of our colleagues to actually finish the game is Rob Taylor, deputy editor of Xbox World 360 magazine, and below he tells us (as best he can) what it feels like to be the first person to finish GTA in the world. Lucky bastard.

GTA IV single player simply has to be played on your lonesome to be fully appreciate it for what it is: a true milestone in videogames

It certainly exceeded my expectations, while there are so many small, chucklesome Easter Egg-style surprises that you're constantly shaking your head at just how savvy a developer Rockstar really is ? light years ahead of its contemporaries

I finished the story mode in 24* [see below for update] hours, without skipping cut scenes, but I literally blitzed through and hardly took on any side missions. If I was to play it again (which I will be, right on launch day!) I'd say to wrap up the story will take at least 40 hours at a normal pace, plus another ? say, 25? ? to wrap up the remainder of the missions.

"Any gamer playing at a normal pace would ? as I said before ? likely take more than 40 hours to finish the story mode alone ? and to obtain 100% completion, 100 hours of single player is certainly not out of the question."

If you had to pick a favourite out of all the games in the series now which one would it be?

GTA IV. By a country mile. It craps on all the others ? even the mighty Vice City ? from a height equivalent to the Statue of Happiness. Believe me, GTA IV is even better than the hype suggests!

sold!!! when is it out?

thats good news, i was hoping it would be worth the wait...

wonder how saints row 2 will be by comparison

Saints Row 2 is going to be more over-the-top asplosions.
This is going to be more life-like... if possible.

So, the hype increases so now it's at equal level. D:

Hmm... I hate hype wagoning, but my life is boring atm and I need something to look forward to.

24 hours on blitz mode? That's pretty long.

Damn April 29th...

Oh god I have to get this now!

I won't get to play it though until after my exams ;(

My last exam is on the 30th of May ;(;(;(;(;(;(;(

O sure Stern, why don't you just force me to buy a 360 at gunpoint? It has the same effect :arms:

I doubt your 360 will be functional when you're done seeing as that will be in 2057 sometime.

I think the 29th will be the biggest day in gaming history, this game is going to be sold out in a second.

I finish all uni related work for this year on the 21st... then I get 5 months off :D

GTA IV has been pre-ordered...
WoW has been installed, patched and customized ready to go...

It's gonna be a good 5 months :D

I'm looking at the little BestBuy preorder box. I don't have a 360 yet. That's how excited I am for this game.

**** my exams. GTA please.

Pre ordered and ready to arrive at GameStop at midnight. My senior skip day is April 29th.

Mmm, Tuesday, eh? I have two Product Design classes that day but fock 'em, town it is.

So.. this is Rockstar's plan.. get everyone to skip school on April 29th, causing massive infrastructure damage to the entire curriculum, thus scarring it for life.

You mean his 100th 360 will no longer be functional, as the one he currently has will probably get red-ring-o-death and fall/crumble apart come the end of the day sometimes.

No single 360 will ever last that long! ;)

A few of the guys on the 1UP Yours podcast have echoed most this sentiment too. Said something to the effect that it will probably still impress people who are already excited.

Heh I just finished GTA 3 off this morning (after a long period of procrastination) and started on GTA: Vice City this afternoon, by the time I get around to finishing that and San Andreas hopefully IV will be available for PC. I'm mega hyped for IV, I think Rockstar are really pushing the envelope of gaming, but I can't justify forking out for a 360.

Thats it.

I'm going out right now, NOW, and preordering it.

PC version nao.

PC version nao.

I think Take 2 will be keen to push it out the door sooner rather than later (if it can help them fend off EA). I wouldn't be surprised if we see a PC release before Christmas this year. We've already seen the traditional 'year to PC' delay slashed with the imminent releases of Mass Effect and Assassins Creed. ;)

I think for the first ever I'll get the xbox360 version ..as good as the pc versions are I think overall it's probably more suited to a console

/runs from pc elitists brandishing pitchforks
